I am 16 years old. My penis gets tilted left side whenever erected. What should I do to make it straight.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Penis tilting towards left or right while in erected condition is a normal process and there is nothing to worry about it. This is natural. Slightly curved or tilted penis provides more pleasure while having sexual intercourse because of the improved frictional advantage. You can enjoy sexual intercourse more than a person who has straight penis. Take care.

Can't Sleep - 5 Tips to Help You Sleep Like a Log

General Physician,
Can't Sleep - 5 Tips to Help You Sleep Like a Log

Lack of sleep can make you feel tired, worn-out and less productive the next day. However, it might not be your fault entirely because the brain tends to become active when the body is at rest, which could be a reason why you aren’t getting enough sleep at night.

Here are a few tips which might be useful for you to sleep at night:

  1. Keep your room dark: Even the faintest light from your mobile is enough to disrupt your sleep. Thus, try and switch off all your lights and gadgets before going to sleep. If doing that doesn’t help either, use an eye mask to keep the light out.

  2. Carefully select your dinner: Don’t go to bed hungry or overstuffed because either of them might cause discomfort while sleeping and lead to a disruption in your sleep. Also, limit your alcohol consumption at night to refrain from making numerous trips to the washroom. Avoid consuming nicotine and caffeine before going to bed as they take a long time to wear off and can cause havoc in your sleep routine.

  3. Don’t exercise before going to bed: Exercising daily is a necessity as it keeps your body healthy and in shape, but exercising right before going to bed can be disruptive as it might make you more pumped up due to the adrenaline rush. Thus, you should avoid exercising heavily right before going to bed.

  4. Plug out all your devices: Create a technology free zone by plugging out all your devices one hour prior to your usual sleep time. The blue light radiated from your devices can trick your brain into believing that it is daylight and cause a disruption in circadian rhythm (which is an ongoing 24-hour physiological process which is regulated by external factors such as sunlight and temperature).

  5. Consume snooze food: Certain food items can be classified as snooze foods as they ensure better sleep at night. Warm milk contains ‘tryptophan’ which is a precursor to melatonin (hormone that is responsible for the onset of sleep) and ensures better sleep or you could have a spoon of honey which releases ‘orexin’ (a chemical that affects wakefulness and appetite) that reduces alertness levels. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

First of all let me assure you that masturbation is not a cause for your present problems. If occasional masturbation helps you cure night falls then it is completely acceptable. Premature ejaculation in 30 seconds is a problem to look out for. This usually occurs due to stress and anxiety at your age. So practice relaxation methods like yoga and meditation. You can also learn and practice certain muscle relaxation exercises which help to relieve stress and anxiety.

Brain Stroke - Things You Must Know!

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, Fellow in Pain Management, DM - Neurology

Brain Stroke - Things You Must Know!

A brain stroke can affect anyone at any point of time when the supply of blood to the brain is interrupted. It can threaten major physical functions and can prove to be fatally dangerous at times. The brain stem which is placed right above the spinal cord controls the breathing, heartbeat and levels of blood pressure. It is also in charge of controlling some elementary functions such as swallowing, hearing, speech and eye movements

What are the different types of strokes?
There are three main kinds of stroke: ischemic strokes, hemorrhagic strokes and transient ischemic attacks. The The most common type of brain stroke is the ischemic stroke is caused by narrowing or blocking of arteries to the brain, which prevents the proper supplyof of blood to the brain. Sometimes it so happens that the blood clot that has formed elsewhere in the body have travelled via the blood vessels and has been trapped in the blood vessel which provides blood to the brain. When the supply of blood to a part of the brain is hindered, the tissue in that area dies off owing to lack of oxygen. The other variant of brain stroke is termed as hemorrhagic stroke is caused when the blood vessels in and around the brain burstor or leak. Strokes need to be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible in order to minimize brain damage.

What are the common symptoms of a brain stroke?
The symptoms of the brain stroke are largely dependent on the area of the brain that has been affected. It can interfere with normal functioning, such as breathing and talking and other functions which human beings can perform without thinking such as eye movements or swallowing. Since all the signals from the brain as well as other parts of the body traverse through the brain stem, the interruption of blood flow often leads to numbness or paralysis in different parts of the body.

Who is likely to have a stroke?
Anyone is at a risk of developing brain stroke although ageing is directly proportional to the risk of having a stroke. Not only that an individual with a family history of brain stroke or transient ischemic attack is at a higher risk of developing stroke. People who have aged over 65 accounts for about 33 percent of all brain strokes. It is important to point here that individuals with high blood pressure, high blood sugar, cholesterol, cancer, autoimmune diseases and some blood disorders are at a higher risk of developing brain stroke.

There are a few factors which can increase the risk of developing stroke beyond any control. But there are certain lifestyle choices as well which aids in controlling the chances of being affected by stroke. It is crucial to refrain from long-term hormone replacement therapies as well as birth control pills, smoking, lack of physical activity, excessive use of alcohol and drug addiction. A brain stroke is a life-threatening medical condition, and when an individual has symptoms that resemble that of stroke, it is crucial to seek immediate medical help.

Treatment for stroke:

  • Treatment depends on the type of stroke.
  • Ischemic strokes can be treated with 'clot-busting' drugs.
  • Hemorrhagic strokes can be treated with surgery to repair or block blood vessel weaknesses.
  • The most effective way to prevent strokes is through maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

What is TPA?
TPA is a thrombolytic or a “Clot Buster” drug. This clot buster is used to break-up the clot that is causing a blockage or disruption in the flow of blood to the brain and helps restore the blood flow to the area of the brain. It is given by intravenous (IV). This can be given only within 45.5 hrs of the onset of symptoms

Time is brain

Remember Every second Loss means brain cells die.

Rush to the nearest Stroke Centre whenever you experience such symptoms.

You can save the brain cells dying if you reach within 45.5 hrs by the CLOT BUSTER.

Endovascular procedures:
Another treatment option is an endovascular procedure called mechanical thrombectomy, strongly recommended, in whichtrained  trained doctors try  removing a large blood clot bysending sending a wired-caged device called a stent retriever, to the site of the blocked blood vessel in the brain

Stroke prevention:
The good news is that 80 percent of all strokes are preventable. It startswith with managing keyrisk risk factors, including

  • High blood pressure,
  • Cigarette smoking,
  • Diabetes Atrial fibrillation and
  • Physical inactivity.

More than half of all strokes are caused by uncontrolled hypertension or high blood pressure, making it the most important risk factor to control.

The best way to get better after a stroke is to start stroke rehabilitation ("rehab"). In stroke rehab, a team of health professionals works with you to regain skills you lost as the result of a stroke. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a neurologist.

Hello Please explain the reasons for varicose vain problem. Its cause symptoms and treatment, excel idea or any home remedy.

General Physician, Nashik
Earlier stages of varicose veins are treated by wearing stockings, sleeping with legs elevated and sclerotherapy (injection of sclerosing agents in the veins ). Advanced stages are treated by destruction of defective valves in the veins or surgical removal of veins. In cases where there are no symptoms except bad cosmetic experience, no treatment is offered. My friend is facing many problems because of his bad habits in young age he has habit of masturbution. He can not controll himself he does masturbution daily, his penis has gone skew due to this bad habit and also his penis is very short in length. He want to stop this habit and also want to increase the length of his penis please help him to avoid this habit and please help for increasing the length of his penis. He has stopped watching porn movies but still he is unable to stop masturbition.

Dear lybrate user,\nthe size of penis depends on four factors:- 1) height of the person:- every organ of a taller person posses greater dimension than those of a shorter person.\n2) testosterone hormone:- less secretion of this hormone leads to under-development of sexual organs\n3) sexual diseases:- patients suffering from erectile dysfunction often complaints of short penis.\n4) fatty tummy:- with every increase of 6 kg in weight, the waist-line is increase up to 2 cm. This fatty layer of abdomen conceals 2 cm of the length of penis by surrounding it.\nthe minimum size of an erected penis required for intercourse is 3 inches. A penis is composed of three highly vascular muscles. The plan of action behind increasing the size of penis is to increase the amount of blood flow to those vascular muscles of penis.\nthere is no specific medicine to increase the size of penis.\nto increase the size of your penis you can try the vaccum operated penis developer set available in market. You can buy it from local medical appliance store or you can order for it online. Use the penis developer set for at least 30 minutes daily. For better & quicker result, apply ayurveda himcolin gel on your penis before using the penis developer set everytime.\nkindly remember that the penis will not remain erected all time. It will remain contracted & flaccid throughout the day. However, you can observe the increase in the width & length of your penis whenever you undergo erection.

Hello I am 21 M just want to know that I am running in morning and evening. In night I usually eat chapati and dal. I eat 7 to 8 chapatis I want to know should I eat less chapatis or I can eat as many chapatis I want .thanks.

General Physician, Mumbai
Dear lybrateuser, - Since you are running twice in a day your body will require carbohydrates, proteins as well as healthy fats, do not leave out any foods from the three major food groups as otherwise it could lead to deficiency & you may feel tired & weak - have 3-4 chapatis at meals also include a protein item like paneer or yogurt/ curds, butter milk, cheese, veg like spinach, methi , also can have eggs, milk at breakfast, soyabeans, tofu with meals, if you have non veg then have seafood, chicken at meals, without adequate protein intake your muscles will not develop & will become weak over a period of time - also have snacks in between meals like a fruit, salad, nuts, sprouts these will keep you full & you will not binge at meal time.
