I observe severe back and neck pain from lower part of skull to lower back with waist in every 5-10mins and unbearable. I don' t know what to do?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned backache as one problem and also mentioned the mri finding. Since you are very young, if you have only localized backache with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc in case you are having back pain. If you do not feel better with these measures in 2-3 weeks time, we will need to evaluate you further. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

Dear lybrate-user basically might be due to position and pattern of sleep adv to avoid use of pillow and lying on flat surface and lying on back and if then also pain persist go for x ray it might be cervical spondylosis.

The most common form of morning stiffness and pain is due to muscle imbalances and poor conditioning of the muscles themselves. Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -find a mattress with back support. A good mattress should provide support for the natural curves and alignment of the spine. Medium-firm mattresses usually provide more back pain relief than firm mattresses. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. -a physiotherapist can tell you when to begin stretching and strengthening exercises and learn how to safely, easily, stretch and strengthen the weak and tight areas of your lower back and hips which cause pain while sleeping. It must be sciatic pain ie. The nerve gets compressed in the low back. For that conservative management would be ice can be kept in the low back where you have back pain. It is suggestible to wear lumbo sacral belt which would help you to build the abdominal muscle tone which itself would make you feel better. You can also wear mcr chappals which would help you to have less weight falling in the painful back.

Pain in legs is a common condition. Do hot fomentation keep a pillow under the legs at night &/when resting. Any way take bio d3 max 1tab odx10days ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days do knee exercises it may have to be further investigated make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take.

My issue is that m having. Pain in my bones specially in legs. Like my ankle and shin is very sensitive to pain. This was not earlier but now from 3-4 days its having like this. Hi Apply pranacharya restopain oil or prasarini oil on your affected part then give hot fomentation. Take maha rasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. And agni tundi vati and maha yograj guggul 1-1 tab twice a day.

Common Causes of Low Back Pain

POSTURAL CAUSES

The most common cause of low back pain is postural stress

  • Thus low back pain is frequently brought on by sitting for a long time in a poor position or prolonged bending in bad working positions heavy lifting and standing and lying for a long time in a poor position.  The low back is rounded and the lordosis has disappeared. 
  • Unfortunately many people lose the lordosis much of the time and seldom or never increase it to its very maximum. If you reduce the lordosis for long periods at a time, year in, year out, and never properly restore it, you will eventually lose the ability to form the hollow. 
  • It is known that a flattened low back is frequently associated with chronic low back problems.Most people naturally have a lordosis in the low back when they walk or run, and these activities often help to relieve low back pain.
  • When we are standing the lordosis is naturally present but in some individuals, when the standing posture is maintained for a long time, the lordosis can become excessive and pain will be produced of a different nature than that occurring during prolonged bending.
  • Of all these postural stresses the poor sitting posture is by far the one most commonly at fault. A poor sitting posture in itself may produce low back pain.
  •  Once low back problems have developed, a poor sitting posture will perpetuate or worsen those problems.Poor standing postures and poor lying postures are also frequent causes of back pain. 
  • You may have already found that your back pain appears only if you stand for long periods or only after you get into bed. Pain that behaves in this way is frequently caused by poor posture alone. If this is the case, it is easily rectified. 
  • Pain of postural origin will not occur if you avoid prolonged overstretching. Should pain develop, it is an almost certain indication that you have fallen into a poor position and immediate steps must be taken to correct your posture. 
  • Once the nature of your postural problem has been identified and you become aware of the steps you must take to correct it, you should not have to seek assistance whenever postural pain arises.

My left leg (particularly on the left side) has got pain for the last about 5 weeks. Sometimes subsides, while disappears on certain days.

Use good quality running shoes and change them every 3-6 months depending upon distance you run. Run on soft surface as far as possible. Avoid tar roads, tracks are good option or sand, grass.

I have a pain in my wrist and sometimes it hurts alot when I'm writing my notes. Also, my thumb used to shake when I use my hand to carry a bucket of water or grind something. Two weeks back my lower hip joint connecting the legs and back aches a lot at night, I took out xray and examined but it came normal and do not know if the pain is persisting due to strain in muscle, started using powergesic tablet but it keeps paining if not taken.

Do stretching exercises and warm foamentation. XRay shows only anything about bone. For other conditions few tests can be recommended to rule out few conditions as CRP.
