How Best to Treat Frizzy Hair

Dermatology Backed Expert Skin & Hair Care Solution
Dermatologist, Nashik
How Best to Treat Frizzy Hair

If you have curly hair, chances are frizz is your natural enemy. And if it is summer and the weather chooses to be humid, that is when everything goes for a toss. Static build-up in winters can also cause frizzy hair. Frizzy hair occurs due to raised hair cuticles, which allow moisture to traverse and enlarge the strands. This makes your hair look frizzy and dried, instead of defined and smooth. Usually, people with curly hair have more frizz problems than people with straight hair. Frizzy hair can occur due to many reasons, some of them include:

  1. Inadequate daily water consumption
  2. Repeated chemical treatment of hair (Hair dyes, bleach, etc.)
  3. Using the wrong hair products
  4. Certain medications
  5. Wearing woollen clothes (Such as scarves or sweater which cause static)
  6. Improper haircare (For instance, you may be rubbing your hair too harshly as you dry it)
  7. Washing hair with extremely hot water
  8. Dry, cold winds
  9. Styling your hair with heated equipment

Recommended Treatment

Frizzy hair is a common problem during both monsoon and winter months.

1. The best way to deal with frizzy hair is to use a leave-in hair gel that has vitamins, minerals and proteins in it. The gel also contains other active ingredients such as hibiscus, saw palmetto and gingko biloba. The gel will moisturise the strands and lock the nourishment in. It will also form a protective barrier over the hair, so environmental factors (sun, rain, wind, etc.) cannot agitate the hair.

2. Frizzy hair is also treated by conditioners that are left in the hair for longer so they effectively moisturise each strand of hair.

3. Using hair brushes made from plastic or boar fibres can also reduce frizz.

4. Usually, frizz can lead to hair breakage. Thus it is important to use the correct shampoo for your hair type that has gentle cleansing and deep moisturising properties. Nourishing shampoos that contain hibiscus extracts and almond oil can be effective against hair breakage.

Since last of few days I have hair fall problem, please give me best solution for this.

BHMS, DEMS

Since last of few days I have hair fall problem, please give me best solution for this.
A.Healthy sleeping patterns can help you solve many hair problems, so get a good 7-8 hour sleep everyday. B.Make time for physical activity every day. Walk, swim or bike for 30 minutes a day helps balance hormonal levels, reducing stress levels thereby reducing hair fall. c.If you want to keep hair healthy, you must know how to take care of them. Avoid rubbing your hair dry with a towel. Rather, let hair dry naturally. d. Wet hair is very weak. Brushing wet hair increases chances of hair breakage. If you must comb wet hair, use a very wide-toothed comb. Use your fingers to undo tangles, not a comb or brush. e.Hair is a delicate structure. Do not use excessively hot water to wash your hair. Hot water strips your hair of colour and activates the oil-producing glands. Use lukewarm or tepid water which will help dilute the oil glands’ secretions, remove dirt, and improve blood circulation. It’s best to end with a cool or cold shower. Such a finish will stimulate circulation at the hair roots and make your hair look smooth and shiny. F.Castor oil especially has excellent hair growth properties and is considered an effective remedy against hair loss. Warm a little oil for a few minutes. Gently rub it over clean scalp and hair shafts allowing the oil to penetrate.  Leave it on for a few hours, preferably overnight and then wash with a mild shampoo. Take care.

Market is flooded with several shampoos claiming to have extra protein. The notable point here is that while washing, protein in the shampoo doesn?t enter the hair or its roots. Shampoo?s main role is limited to cleaning the external surface of hair, that is, its cuticles. Hair do need protein but it comes from a good diet.

Hi lybrate-user. For acne problem try to keep your face dirt and oil free by washing your face 2-3 times a day with glycolic acid face wash. It will help in exfoliation and will help in reducing the spots. If acne is severe consult a dermatologist personally so that antibiotic treatment can be started. You can also opt for chemical peel sessions that helps in reducing the post acne spots.

Please take a dose of Acid phos 1 M single dose and revert after 2 weeks. Lifestyle changes 1. Along with a healthy hair diet it is important that you exercise properly as it will ensure that there is proper blood flow to your scalp and will help in the growth of hair. 2. Treat your hair delicately. Avoid unnecessary brushing, combing or handling. Use a soft, round bristles brush. 3. Have a weekly scalp massage to provide stimulation to the hair follicles. 4. Have regular trims to eliminate split ends and allow the hair to look and feel healthier. 5. Get plenty of rest and sleep to allow your body to grow hair.
