Treatment For Syphilis

MBBS
Sexologist, Delhi
Treatment For Syphilis

Certain diseases are fatal, thus, proper measures must be taken to ensure that once the symptoms have been confirmed, treatment must start immediately. Syphilis is one of the most communicable sexually transmitted diseases. If left untreated, Syphilis can be fatal.

It can lead to heart disease, brain damage and blindness. A woman infected with Syphilis can also pass it on unknowingly to her baby, if she suffers from the disease during her pregnancy. Syphilis can be easily treated, but if left too late, the antibiotics that treat it cannot reverse the damage caused by Syphilis.

Syphilis can be tested by:

  • A blood test: In most cases, a simple blood test can confirm the presence of Syphilis by showing signs of the antibodies used to fight it.
  • Testing the fluid from the sores: This is usually done in the case of primary or secondary Syphilis when sores are present on the patient's skin. Looking at a scraping of the sore under a microscope can be used to diagnose Syphilis if it shows the presence of the Syphilis bacteria.
  • Testing cerebrospinal fluid: This is performed only in extreme cases of Syphilis where the disease may have caused complications with your nervous system. The earlier Syphilis is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat.

Syphilis is usually treated with antibiotics amongst which penicillin is the most preferred. If you've had Syphilis for less than a year, a single injected dose of penicillin can stop the disease from progressing. You may need additional doses if you have been suffering from Syphilis for more than a year. Penicillin is also the only antibiotic that can cure Syphilis and suits pregnant women as well. If you have been diagnosed with Syphilis during pregnancy, your baby should also be treated for it.

When undergoing treatment for Syphilis, here are a few other points to keep in mind:

  • Abstain from oral, vaginal and anal sex until the sores have healed
  • Get blood tests at regular intervals for at least a year after treatment
  • Get tested for an HIV infection
  • Fevers, nausea, headaches and chills are normal side effects associated with Syphilis treatment
  • If you are allergic to penicillin, let your doctor know so that you can be given an alternative antibiotic
  • If you have a lesion around your mouth, Syphilis can even spread through kissing another person

The good news is that once you've been cured of Syphilis, it does not recur. However, it is recommended to always use protection while having intercourse and abstain from sexual activities if your partner suffers from Syphilis.

Some exercises of chest, stretch sideways and Yoga postures help development of mammary glands and surrounding muscles. Some Ayurvedic oils also help in development if breasts. Estrogenic foods such as chicken head soup, eggs, legumes, nuts , olive oil, sunflower seeds help in it.

Hi i am suffering from PCOD AND MIgraine. M using rizact-10 from migraine. Should I take rizact or not.

Endocrinologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user! If Rizact is working for you for migraine you should continue taking that. PCOS management involved weight loss, diet planning and medicines which have to be decided as per the type of PCOS you have. Weight loss is however the most important part of controlling PCOS.

I am planning for a baby. My cycle time is 26 days and its due after 3 days. Please suggest what would be the best time window to make love. Sex before ovulation or after ovulation is helpful in conceiving.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26days) minus18days=8th day. The longest cycle (31days) minus 10days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period.

Is it safe to have sex after pregnancy my wife just got pregnant she just told me that her period been missed is it safe to have sex after this im also suffering from anxiety pregnancy happened before this now I can not feel more passionate more enjoying about sex can you tell me the solution of this.

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
A female goes through a lot of harmonal changes during pregnancy, so is why she may not be interested to get intimate, although we would advise you to have sexual abstinence for at least first three months, as they are crucial months of pregnancy, post that pregnancy gets stabilised and if she feels mentally and physically comfortable you may indulge. However just a piece of advice, sexual pleasures are best if mutually agreed upon ,and there are so many ways where the partners can gratify themselves by just being close to each other and hold each others warmth. Love should not be just physical, rather there has to be a mental connect more than sexual. I leave the rest to you for your judgement.

If your wife has got her regular periods it means she is not pregnant. If she misses her periods anytime then check with urine pregnancy test 4-5 days after expected date.

I had unprotected sex during 4th day of my period. I hd I pill within 1 day. But after 10/11 days I hd bleeding today little. Am I pregnant?

DGO, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Bhavnagar
No. That bleeding is due to some hormonal imbalance due to pill. So don't make it a habit of taking pill everytime after intercourse it will damage your cycle pattern.
