What is the diet plan for renal failure patient? Please advise.

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
If it is early stages of kidney failure do not need to limit the fluid you drink. But, if you are on dialysis, you will need to watch the amount of liquid you take in. Do not eat too much of foods that contain a lot of water, such as soups, ice cream, grapes, melons, lettuce, tomatoes, and celery. Use smaller cups or glasses tips to keep from becoming thirsty include: avoid salty foods freeze some juice in an ice cube tray and eat it like a popsicle (you must count these ice cubes in your daily amount of fluids) when eating fruits: choose peaches apples, papaya, pears limit or avoid oranges bananas & prunes when eating vegetables: choose broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumber limit or avoid asparagus, avocado, potatoes, tomatoes or tomato sauce, pumpkin, avocado, and cooked spinach these are few general guidelines on exactly how much of carbs, protein can be consumed can be said with help of anthropocentric measurements and biochemical data for more information contact through private section on lybrate.

I'm kidney failure patient from 2 year. Now I'm Dialysis regularly. But every night I'm suffering from cough in chest. And I'm getting too much pain. Please advise.

Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I understand your concerns. As you have chronic kidney disease you are prone to have infections. So better get evaluated by a pulmonologist as you will need to undergo a chest c ray to look for lung infection. Also get yearly influenza and pneumococcal vaccine every 5 years. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

Hi, I am suffering from uti. What should I do prevent this in future ?

BHMS
General Physician,
If you are looking to reduce your risk of developing a urinary tract infection (uti), here are some prevention tips: 1. Stay hydrated: urinary tract infections (utis) are less likely to occur in someone who is drinking enough water to promote regular urination, so it is very important to stay hydrated in order to help flush out bacteria from the urinary tract. 2. Respond to? nature? s call: it is always a good idea to urinate as soon as you feel the need. While? holding it in? does not directly cause an infection, it can cause overdistension that can damage the lining of the bladder, making it more vulnerable to bacteria. 3. Take a vitamin c supplement: about 1, 000 milligrams of vitamin c taken daily can help inhibit the growth of some bacteria by acidifying the urine.

Start taking naturamore female powder 1 spoon daily in morning and evening for 1 month. This will definitely give you results. As the Powder is just a supplement containing proteins, vitamins, minerals and all which is better than going on a diet. You will get result 110%. And try to go for walking and yoga in early morning before 8 AM to develop Pelvic muscles. Just inform me if you are not getting the powder. Take care. :)

My mother is hypertensive since 2 years, she has hypothyroidism also, her uric acid level is 7 since 1 year it is not coming to normal range, even after taking zyloric 300 tab, now she is complaining increased urination at night time and severe itching all over the body what should I do?

Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day. Drinking water at intervals keeps your body hydrated so that uric acid crystals do not form at all. A healthy intake of water can help flush excess uric acid out of the body. Increase your consumption of antioxidant-rich foods like cherries, blueberries, blackberries, grapes and pineapples. They prevent inflammation of the joints and help in the excretion of uric acid. Try apple cider vinegar. Not only is it known to lower uric acid levels, but it also helps to reduce arthritic pain, even when used as a topical application. Stay away from foods that can cause gout or trigger inflammation. These include beans, mushrooms, meat and fish like salmon, mackerel, sardines and crab. Although patients with gout are advised to limit alcohol intake, the best option would be to eliminate it completely. Alcohol not only increases the risk of gout it also increases the severity of symptoms. take tab. zyloric in 200 mg od only..all other medicines are ok.

Plenty of oral liquids predominantly water goes a long way in preventing stone formation. Water intake on an average should be about 2 to 2.5 liters a day, distributed uniformly throughout the day. One should take a balanced diet avoiding excess of any food elements and try not skipping or avoiding any food. Fluid intake - adequate quantity, distributed uniformly throughout the day aim - to keep urine output at least 1.5 litres per day. Type - predominantly water, followed by barley water or yoghurt. - freshly squeezed oranges or lemons, juices made from the same, green tea and wine. - completely avoid soft drinks / aerated drinks. - avoid other fruit juices; instead eat fruits. Adequate consumption of fruit and vegetable. Avoid excess of or skipping of any dietary element. Adequately treat any urinary infection.

Hi, prevention of kidney stones may include a combination of lifestyle changes and medications. Lifestyle changes you may reduce your risk of kidney stones if you: drink water throughout the day. For people with a history of kidney stones, drink 12-14 glasses of water everyday. If you live in a hot, dry climate or you exercise frequently, you may need to drink even more water to produce enough urine. If your urine is light and clear, you're likely drinking enough water. 1 eat fewer oxalate-rich foods. If you tend to form calcium oxalate stones, restrict foods rich in oxalates. These include rhubarb, beets, bhindi (okra), spinach, swiss chard, sweet potatoes, nuts, tea, chocolate and soy products. Choose a diet low in salt and animal protein. Reduce the amount of salt you eat and choose non animal protein sources, such as legumes. Consider using a salt substitute. Continue eating calcium-rich foods, but use caution with calcium supplements. Calcium in food doesn't have an effect on your risk of kidney stones. Continue eating calcium-rich foods unless your doctor advises otherwise. Ask your doctor before taking calcium supplements, as these have been linked to increased risk of kidney stones. You may reduce the risk by taking supplements with meals. Diets low in calcium can increase kidney stone formation in some people. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine - berberis vulgaris q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice daily for 4 weeks. Revert me back.

First to find out the right cause like - cystitis, urinary tract infections, fibroids /pelvic masses/constipation etc etc. Their is not as such home remedies for this problem, you have to take a proper homeopathic treatment for this, few tips - often mild degrees of difficulty can be managed with simple advice. When sitting on the toilet, make sure that your legs are apart rather than having your knees together. Leaning forwards or even standing slightly may alter the angle of the bladder neck enough to allow better emptying. Waiting for two minutes after the initial void and trying again may help. This is known as the double void technique. 2) more severe symptoms may require actual treatment. There are three approaches to the treatment of voiding difficulties: try to increase the force of the bladder contractions. This can be achieved in some cases using bethanechol, which stimulates the nerve fibres controlling the contraction of the bladder muscle. This may be effective if there are no signs of obstruction at the bladder neck or urethra. Try to reduce outflow obstruction. This method would be used if there was a specific site of obstruction in the urethra such as a stricture, or narrowing, demonstrated during investigation as mentioned above. Third, and probably most commonly, catheters are used. They can either be used occasionally or remain in place long term. 3) occasional self-catheterisation when properly taught in a healthy individual with normal dexterity is the best option. It gives freedom to control bladder symptoms with no more inconvenience than having to change a tampon. But I suggest, you do all these things in the supervision of certified medical person. Homeopathic medicine for temporary relief - equisetum hyemale 30 three times a day, can notharis 30 - three times a day, then let me know after 4-5 days.
