I am getting saliva unnecessarily in mouth every minute till I am busy with another work. please tell me what is this?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you are. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation Physiological Pregnancy Local causes Oral inflammation- teething Infection ?oral cavity infection, dental caries, tonsillitis, peritonsilar abscess Systemic Toxin exposure- pesticides, mercury, capsaicin, snake poisoning Medication ?tranquilizers, anticonvulsants, anticholinesterases, lithium Neuromuscular ?cerebral palsy, Parkinson?s disease, motor neuron disease, bulbar/ pseudobulbar palsy, Stroke Infection- rabies Gastric- gastroesophageal reflux Advance procedures can be done with laser. DENTAL TIPS: - Visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity because they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

My brother teeth grinding while sleeping. Is there any solution?

BDS
Dentist,
My brother teeth grinding while sleeping. Is there any solution?
Kindly visit your dentist and he/she can get an appliance made called as night guard which your brother will have to wear n sleep. This will not only prevent teeth grinding but will also prevent wear n tear of enamel which is caused by teeth grinding.

Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Kindly consult a physician & dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Hello, thank you for your query. I understand you have a condition called halitosis (bad mouth odour). Causes: 1. Foods: sulfur containing foods such as garlic, onions, some kinds of fish, coffee etc can leave bad odours in the mouth 2. Poor oral hygiene 3. Tobacco habits: smoking and/or chewing tobacco 4. Mouth dryness or lack of adequate saliva 5. Mouth infections 6. Health problems: gastric problems, acidity, cadidiasis, diabetes, acid reflux, lactose intolerance etc 7. Wearing braces or having removable appliances (increase food retention and if oral hygiene is poor, can lead to halitosis. 8. Pregnancy 9. Other causes. Please see a specialist to diagnose the cause and give you appropriate advice.

Taking a large no. of medications often leads to a dry mouth. Increase your fluid intake or ask your dentist about an artifical saliva product or chew sugarless gum after a meal to keep your mouth moist.

Healthy mouth in pregnancy

Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Research, BDS

Healthy mouth in pregnancy
During pregnancy gum problems get aggravated due to hormonal changes affecting a few microbes. So proper hygiene maintenance and dental check ups are a must. If any invasive procedures like extraction are needed can be done in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy under proper antibiotics which do not harm the baby.

Bad breathe could be due to other reasons also like gastritis or gastrointestinal conditions. As you said dry mouth. Dry mouth could be due to mouth breathing at night due to nasal blockage ultimately bad breathe. So go step by step for cure. Exercise properly to relieve your nasal symptoms and try and stop breathing from mouth. You could go for consultation with an ENT or laryngologist. You shoul take drugs for proper salivation but to some limited extent. Try retaining body fluid by drinking water and juices. Get your full body check up for vital organs like kidney liver thyroid heart etc. Go for a gastroentrologist for gastric gases which also emit bad odour due to nitogenous gases or sulfur gases. Do not panic. You are perfectly alright. If you care you should take care.
