Chronic abdominal pain should always be evaluated by a competent Pediatrician , preferably a gastroenterologist. These children should be dewormed, frequent handwashing should be instituted and an ultrasound of abdomen is often usefull in making a diagnosis.

Ideal Weaning food practice for babies after 6 months of age::

You can continue breast feeding till 2 yr of age but after 6 month of age you can add supplementary food in addition to breast milk..
1) rice water. Dal water
2) RAB,
3) fresh fruit juices
4) fresh vegetable soup
5)pasteurized top milk

Consistency of above mention food should be liquid initially and then gradually switch over to semi solids as age advances..
Give with spoon & bowel..
Bottle feeding must be stopped..

My 3 and half months baby got vaccinated with pentavac 4 days back. But there is a hard swell, Abscess formation and reddish look around the vaccinated area. What to do and what may be the reason. Does this cause problem to the leg after growth.

Give baby some analgesic paracetamol drops 0.5 ml 4 5imes a day. Hardness will subside within 3 to 4 weeks. If abscess formation is there show the baby physically to child specialist.

HEALTHY FOOD INTAKE FOR STRENUOUS STUDY DAYS

Exams are here again. As always we tend to neglect our food in the process of concentrating on studies. But we forget that to concentrate on studies we have to concentrate on taking a healthy diet.

Here are a few diet tips that will help you balance your study as well as diet.

1. Eat small and nourishing meals every three hours, instead of just 2-3 heavy meals. The brain needs a constant supply of energy and a heavy meal will divert the blood supply to digest the heavy meal.

2. Your daily diet must include 2-3 fresh, seasonal fruits. Start your day with a boost of fruit energy. Have a banana with a tablespoon of honey as the first meal of the day. Fruits provide you not only with fiber, vitamins and minerals but also simple and complex carbohydrates for short and long duration of energy supply when studying. The fiber will also help to keep the bowel movement clear.

3. A good breakfast is a must for anyone. The breakfast must contain foods with complex carbohydrates like flakes, oats, rawa (semolina), daliya (wheat cracks), poha (rice flakes) or pav with vegetables and a protein source such as eggs, milk, pulse, sprouts or paneer.

4. Nuts and dry fruits like almonds, walnuts, and dates provide nutrients which enhance brain power and concentration and also provide an extended source of energy supply.

5. Include potassium-rich coconut water, citrus fruits/ juices and soups in your diet.

6. Green leafy vegetables, pulses, and nuts will also provide vitamins and minerals to help avoid anemia. (Anemia is a common problem causing difficulty in concentration.)

7. Including milk as a bedtime meal and curd/lassi/buttermilk after lunch or as a mid-meal assures a supply of Vitamin B12 too.

8. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Always keep a glass of water beside you to remember to take sips of water every 15 minutes.

9. Basic exercise like stretching, walking or yoga with meditation will help to reduce negative stress and also help you to get good sleep.

10. Avoid junk foods as they will provide you no nutrition.

11. Avoid stimulants like tea, coffee or colas as they may seem to perk you up but the energy does not sustain for long. Too much may even cause bloating or acidity.

12. Avoid aerated drinks as they are full of sugar and may cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels causing a sudden rise and drop in sugar levels.

13. Chocolates may seem to may you feel good but the sudden rise and fall of sugar it causes in the blood can lead to trembling nervousness and panic.

14. Have your dinner if possible a little earlier than 9-10pm.

15. Keep about 2 hours between dinner and your bedtime.

16. Have a sound sleep for at least 7-8 hours daily.

Remember your body and mind need the fuel to help you perform the best. So, nourish it and take care of it and it will do the same for you.

Hi my baby was diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux with suspected uti. And was put on antibiotics till date. She was 2 months old at diag. Now she is normal. Should we need to continue the med. Dose 1.5ml septron.

The infants are prone to develop recurrent uti and also infection of kidney. This is the reason they need to be put on prophylactic (low dose antibiotic) for long duration. The ultrosonography should also be done to see any damage to the kidney in babies below 2 years of age if there is history of uti. I would like to know whether usg has been done or not. Regards.

She can take more protein diet like sprouts, been, 2fruits curd, dal, aviod maida, junk food, high carbohydrates. Take more liquid salads and raw veg for roufage.

I am 31 years old, I want to know what should be the weight of the baby at the end of 5 months, if my normal weight before I conceived was 50. My height is 4 ft11'

For baby girl 5. 5 to 8. 5 kg, for boy 6-9 kg at 5 months of age as per the growth charts. Indians tend to lag.

Behalf of my wife am posting this question. Recently we are blessed with a baby girl. Delivery was not normal. My wife keep feeding for more than 30-40 mins. She keeps feeding else baby cries. Per day she feeds more times. Can someone pls advise what kind of food my wife have to take? We don't know really is this is a problem or milk is not enough for the baby from mother. How to check it? I heard moms use to feed for 10-15 mins. But in our case duration is not normal. Pls clarify us what we have to do.

Its perfectly normal to feed for 30/40 mins initially. Breast feeding is the biggest challenge that the new parent faces. As long as the baby is gaining weight as required her feeding is adequate.Just grit your teeth and be at it for the first 3 months...then it will be a cake walk!

A six month old baby is ready for starting food other than formula milk. You can start by giving the baby some fresh fruit juice, mashed banana and thin moong dal khichri. You can give Narial pani, vegetable soup (stained). Remember that salt and sugar should be used sparingly. Start one thing at a time, see how the baby likes it. You can use full cream packaged milk, undiluted after boiling and removing the malai, with katori and spoon. Do not use bottles. Bottle feeding causes diarrhoea.

What is the reason of down syndrome?

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes. Normally, everyone has only 2 copies of each chromosome. A person with down syndrome has an extra chromosome 21, i. E. There are 3 copies of that chromosome. That results in all the abnormalities seen.

Kajal can be used but under hygienic conditions, hands should be properly washed and the kajal which you use should be sterile.

Cow/ dairy milk. Formula milk is usally advised when baby is allergic to cow's milk and soya milk for babies intolerent to lactogen a constituent of milk.

Hi good to know you want to exclusively breast feed the baby. Drink lot of liquids about 5-6litres a day. Let baby suck at breast regularly especially at night. Eat balanced diet take care.

Tips To Help You Reduce The Risk Of Type 2 Diabetes

Here are some tips to help you reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes.

Check your risk of diabetes. Take the life! risk assessment test and learn more about your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Manage your weight. Excess body fat, particularly if stored around the abdomen, can increase the body’s resistance to the hormone insulin. This can lead to type 2 diabetes.

Exercise regularly. Moderate physical activity on most days of the week helps manage weight, reduce blood glucose levels and may also improve blood pressure and cholesterol.

Eat a balanced, healthy diet. Reduce the amount of fat in your diet, especially saturated and trans fats. Eat more fruit, vegetables and high-fibre foods. Cut back on salt. 

Limit takeaway and processed foods. convenience meals are usually high in salt, fat and kilojoules. It's best to cook for yourself using fresh ingredients whenever possible.

Limit your alcohol intake. Too much alcohol can lead to weight gain and may increase your blood pressure and triglyceride levels. Men should have no more than two standard drinks a day and women should have no more than one. 

Quit smoking. Smokers are twice as likely to develop diabetes as non-smokers.

Control your blood pressure. Most people can do this with regular exercise, a balanced diet and by keeping a healthy weight. In some cases, you might need medication prescribed by your doctor.

Reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease. Diabetes and cardiovascular disease have many risk factors in common, including obesity and physical inactivity.

See your doctor for regular check-ups. As you get older, it's a good idea to regularly check your blood glucose, blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels.

Dear lybrate user, its always good to start on your fitness program. Every step matters. Its never too late. Aim should be to do intensive cardio/aerobic exercises for at least an hour every day. Regular mat based yoga is too slow/light to give any significant weight loss benefits. Better to go to gym and do your own exercises. Or join zumba or aerobic classes. If you are going to gym you can follow following routine. #a. 5 minutes light warm up with side jumps and stretches. #b. 10 minutes treadmill with speeds from 6-8 kmph #c. 10 mins abs and stretches. #d. 10 mins cycling with speeds from 25-32 kmph. #e 5 mins. Light weights and dumbells #6.10 mins treadmill #7.10 mins stretches and abs crunches. Stay fit. Stay healthy. Stay happy.

I have 3 month baby boy and he use to urinate 15 times a day but urine is not yellow color and smelly and he even not crying .is this normal I thought Because of cold condition outside this is happening please suggest.

Urination 15 times is not normal. Get her checked by pediatrician. I have just answer about doubt of being diabetic.
