I started going to gym from 4th April. From that day I have pain in my back and shoulders. What should I do?
Try and slowly increase the intensity of your workouts, ask your gym trainer to make you do a longer warm-up before you commence on the exercises. Remember to take lots of fluids like water or even energy drinks to avoid dehydration and also maintain your supply of glucose to burn out in the gym and also help prevent cramping up. If you are having severe pain niw, I would advise you to avoid going to the gym for 4-5 days and slowly resume while doing all of the above. Hope this helps.

Hi if you have localized back pain with - no neurological symptoms like numbness, paresthesia, weakness in limbs etc, my advice is: - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a physiotherapist and then at home. - avoid forward bending, lifting heavy weights etc - take an analgesic like diclofenac or something which suits your body for 5-7 days - take muscle relaxant for same time as analgesic to relieve muscle spasm - ice packs at the site of pain, muscle spasm - local analgesic spray can be used but no massage is required let me know in a week time how you are feeling. I will actually ask you to get x ray of involved region of spine (ap & lateral) and send reports across to me so that I can advise further in a better manner. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Reason for these pains could be due to some local inflammation. Start with gentle anti inflammatory medications for her, physical therapy like ultrasonics / laser therapy can be useful, start with cold compresses on painful areas at home and you can also use local analgesic spray like dynapar qps spray for local application after fomentation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

It's difficult to actually comment without examining that what could be the cause of the pain. But in general to increase the pumping action in calf muscles, you can do calf stretching everyday. Also do ankle toe movements, like sitting on a chair or lying down on the bed move your ankle up, down, rotate clockwise and anticlockwise, once in a day preferably before going to sleep do this exercise: lie on your back, keep pillows under your ankle ,calf and knee such that your legs are at an angle of 45 degree and then continue with ankle movements as descibed above for about 10-15 min.

This back pain is due to no back exercise. Due to this muscle get stiff. When suddenly you get move fast that time this stiff muscle get break and pain start. In ayurved there is mentioned one procedure KATI BASTI .DO THIS FOR FIVE DAYS WITH MEDICATED OIL if you want to do it you should do it under doctor observation. So consult ayurvedic doctor near you. I am 47 years old. Female. Having high blood pressure. Taking regular medicine. Now it is under control. For last one month having a pin in my right shoulder. I am working lady 12 to 14 hours working in laptop. For last 2 days also notice that when I am in bed either it is at night or in the morning. Sudden headmoving (blundness) it is for a moment. If I head down also felt the same. Why it is happening. Need advise.

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your pain in your right shoulder region could be due to some early degenerative changes setting in the affected joint. Also lack of exercises, active lifestyle could be contributing to this. My advise will be, if there is no swelling, associated skin redness, local warmth etz and if there is no h/o any injury, then you can initiate physical therapy under supervision of a good physical therapist, ice fomentation 2-3 times at home, gentle anti inflammatory medication like tab etoshine etc for 5-7 days, continue with adequate calcium and vitamin d intake as recommended, and you should start feeling better in 2-3 weeks time. I could not understand the second part of your question which I think is more of a neurology issue rather than an orthopaedic one. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
