Hi lybrate-user, its really important you discuss your issues with a psychologist, its confidential and help you deal with thing better. In the mean time, do following: get enough sleep. Give your body the sleep it wants, and your stress levels will take a nosedive. Sleep is a mechanism by which your body recuperates and restores its energy reserves. If you're not getting enough sleep, your body will use stress to keep you active and alert in the absence of stored energy. Most adults need at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night.[4] young children and older adults need more, about 9-10 hours of sleep per night. Get into regular sleeping habits. If you can, try to go to bed and wake up at the same time each night and morning. Routinizing your sleep cycle will teach your body when it's supposed to go to be tired, aiding in better sleep and less sleep deprivation. Eat properly. Your body needs to be healthy, strong, happy and properly fueled to help you tackle stress. Like it or not, stress is a bodily reaction to anything that disturbs its natural state, meaning that your body can have a profound effect on producing and relieving stress. Water has been shown to relieve stress. That's because a dehydrated body creates cortisol, a stress hormone. An under-hydrated body creates stress to motivate the owner of the body to properly care for him/herself. Start decreasing caffeine and alcohol intake. In some cases, alcohol intake increases stress response in humans while being linked to substance dependency, a stressful condition itself. Caffeine is also responsible for raising stress levels, especially at work, so try to stick to water as a general rule. Eat a healthy breakfast and healthy snacks during the day. It is better to eat several smaller meals throughout the day than to consume three large meals. For a healthy stress-free diet, consume more complex carbohydrates such as whole-grain breads and pasta, foods high in vitamin a such as oranges, foods high in magnesium like spinach, soybeans or salmon, and black and green tea, which contain antioxidants. Start a diary or journal. You don't have to write in it every day. Writing down what's bothering you, what you've been busy with, and how you feel may help you to expel your negative emotions. Practice yoga and meditation. Although you could technically consider yoga your daily exercise, practicing the deep stretches and slow body movements will help you to clear your mind. Meditating - clearing your mind - while practicing gentle yoga will give double the relaxation effect to ease your stress. Use guided imagery to imagine a place that makes you feel at peace. Imagine somewhere that you feel happy; focus on the details to fully remove your mind from the present. Do yoga alone or in a group setting to help you learn new poses. As you advance in your yoga, you will be able to form complex stretches that force you to focus and take your mind off your stress. Practice deep relaxation by doing progressive muscle relaxation. This is when you work through your body by tensing your muscles, holding the tension for ten seconds, and then releasing it. This will soften and relieve all the muscles in your body. Avoid negative thinking. Acknowledge the positive in your life and begin to re-establish some balance in your emotional register. Avoid focusing on only the bad things that happened during your day, but consider the good as well. Stop and count your blessings. Write down even the simplest things that you have and enjoy: a roof over your head, a bed to sleep on, quality food, warmth, security, good health, friends or family. Acknowledge that not everyone has these things. Say something positive to yourself as soon as you wake up every morning. This will keep your energy and mind focused on positive thinking. Be thankful for each day that you have; you never know which one could be your last! use positive self-talk. Reinforce your resolve through positive statements such as" I can handle this, one step at a time, or" since i've been successful with this before, there's no reason why I can't do it again. Visualize positive things; this does not take long but can help you regain focus. Think about success, read about successful people. Don't admit defeat before you've been defeated. You don't deserve to beat yourself down so that you can punish yourself. Have more positive self talk. Nothing else helps intensify stress more than negative thoughts. When you start to having the feeling of defeat is the perfect time for a little reminder. You know yourself better than anyone else, and you are the perfect person to give you the reminder that it will get better. Remind yourself of all of the things you have accomplished in the past. All of those small accomplishments add up to very big ones over time. Change the words you use. Instead of saying" I can't do this, say something like" i've been able to get through this before, and I will get through it this time too.

I am 45 years old, male. I had a viral fever few days back and consulted our family doctor. He checked my BP and said it is on higher side. It was 98/148. My weight is 85 kg, so Doctor prescribed some activities. After doing some light walk exercise, my BP was 95/132, still on higher side. What are the other precautions I should take to control my BP. Is it really alarming? Please suggest me Doctor. I do not have other symptoms like vomiting, headache, weakness, fever etc.

Hi. Bp is the problem that generally does not cause any symptoms of the patient. This is what makes the disease so bad kind of disease. Because patient does not feel any problem from the disease. Most of the times bp is detected when the patient goes to a doctor for some other reasons, doctors check bp and detect you having high blood pressure. You need to check your blood pressure regularly for like about one week or one months time. If every time your blood pressure is more than one 140/90 then it is proven fact that taking a blood pressure medicine will give you good results in long time. God has made the heart in such a way that when it pumps, it creates pressure of one 120/80. So when you have high blood pressure you want your heart to work harder so that it produces more pressure. So each and every beat your heart pumps, it is working more than what it is supposed to work. So just imagine 80 times in a minute then what in an hour what in 24 hours what in weeks and what in years. So this extra burden on the heart causes problem in long time. This is why we advise to take bp medicines so that we can reduce the load on your heart so that it lasts longer. Take care.

Most probably the surgery must have been by key hole method giving minimum cuts and trauma. Your doctor has suggested you to eat everything except fats. Trust him. Bad fats are not good for anyone, not even a 10 years old kid. After gall bladder surgery the appetite becomes better as there is no fear of pain after eating. Eat whatever you like but do reduce your weight the healthy way by eating right and exercising according to your constitution and physique. Walking is best exercise which is meditative too. Drink warm liquids more often as gall bladder juice-bile has no reservoir now as gall bladder is removed and bile is flowing constantly in the food pipe. Take warm water with honey, green tea, clear soups, plain warm water more often to wash away the acid and bile juice in stomach. Hope you know about bad fats. Let me repeat-street food and trans fats present in packed foods. But do take good fats like a spoon of pure ghee/butter + katori of assorted nuts everyday. Seasonal vegetables and fruits-lots drink a glass of warm water with fresh lemon juice + spoon of honey on empty stomach in morning-it does burn fats and extra sugars. Say no to empty calories like sugar and sweets, fizzy cold drinks, packed juices. Eat fresh fruits. If worried about heart get basic tests done like ecg, echo, stress test, blood test for sugar & total lipids. Get back here with reports and progress of weight loss. Only 10 kgs need to be shed @ 5 kg /month.

1) There are no supplements to improve heart functioning. 2) Your increased heart beat is due to the fact that the body was not used to work out, so begin slowly with your workout and gradually increase it. If the heart beat still bothers you then get an ECG , lipid profile and BP checked and consult a doctor. 3) Fast heartbeat is also due to smoking and caffeine intake, so quit both.

In ayurveda, Hypertension is referred to as Rakta Capa Vriddhi and it sees the vitiation of vata and pitta doshas as the main cause. Mix 1 teaspoon of onion juice with an equal amount of honey. Take once a day for 1 week. Upon noticing improvement, continue for several more days. Take sarpgandha vati twice a day. Yogendra ras. Akik bhasm works very good in case of hypertension. Avoid salty diet. Oily food. Lower your stress. Do pranayama early morning.

6 Super Foods That Actively Help Lower Cholesterol

Diploma in Naturopathy & Yogic Science (DNYS), M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Vadodara
6 Super Foods That Actively Help Lower Cholesterol

Some foods punch well above their weight in helping to reduce cholesterol levels, we call them 'Cholesterol busters'. Choosing a healthy diet, low in saturated fat is important in helping to keep your cholesterol low but you can reduce your cholesterol levels further by including these super six foods in your everyday diet

  1. Soya Foods: Being naturally low in saturated fat, soya foods help lower cholesterol. The special proteins in soya also appear to influence how the body regulates cholesterol too. Studies show you can lower your cholesterol by around 6% by including as little as 15g soya protein per day. Choose from: soya alternatives to milk and yogurt, soya desserts, soya meat alternatives, soya nuts, edamame beans and tofu.
  2. Nuts: All nuts are rich in vegetable protein, fibre, heart healthy unsaturated fats, vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, natural plant sterols and a host of beneficial plant nutrients. 30-35g a day of nuts (a handful) has the potential to lower cholesterol by an average of 5%.
  3. Oats and Barley: Both oats and barley are rich in a form of soluble fibre called beta glucan. Once eaten beta glucan forms a gel which helps bind cholesterol in the intestines and prevent it from being absorbed. It is recommended that we eat about 3g of beta glucan per day. Foods which contain 1g or more of beta glucan can carry a cholesterol lowering claim.
  4. Foods fortified with plant sterols and stanols: Plant sterols are structurally similar to cholesterol and can be divided into sterols and stanols. Their cholesterol lowering effects have been known for some time. Plant sterols/stanols are naturally found in a wide range of foods such as vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. However, for most people, it is not possible to achieve the optimum intake from ordinary foods.
  5. Fruits and vegetables: All fruits and vegetables are low in saturated fat so eating more helps to keep saturated fat intake low. Fruit and vegetables are also a valuable source of cholesterol lowering soluble fibres. Try to include at least one pulse (beans, peas, lentils) everyday. Other rich sources of soluble fibre include sweet potato, aubergene, okra (ladies finger), broccoli, apples, strawberry and prunes.
  6. Foods rich in unsaturated fats: Keeping our daily saturated fat intake below 20g (women) and 30g (men) is vital for cholesterol lowering, but it is equally important to replace this saturated fat with modest amounts of unsaturated fats such as those found in olive, sunflower, corn, rapeseed and other vegetable, nut and seed oils. Other foods rich in unsaturated fats include vegetable spreads, avocado, oily fish and nuts. Avoid coconut and palm oil as, unlike other these vegetable oils, they are rich in saturated fats.

Hi welcome, Blockage in all three arteries with reduced heart function& hhistory of cardiac arrest is a serious thing. He will definitely need a by pass surgery (CABG). The risk of the surgery will be higher than a normal patient with blockage in all three arteries. Diabetes control is definitely a very important thing. About medication, dose of cardace could be increased as per bp. Another very important medication (beta blocker) should be added to the treatment. Both the cardace & beta blocker are very very important for such patients. I could be of more help if you could send me the echo & Angio report. Thanks & take care.

Some time my heart beat get over fast and I feel too weak and same time gets headache. Is that a problem.
As of now for headache you can take tablet paracetamol. But we will have to make a diagnosis to get to the cause of it which can be either due to frontal sinusitis or due to migrane or due to refractive error of the eyes or due to other causes for which we have to investigate. If you want medicine than, I will prescibe.
