Hi sandhya and lybrate-user, you should go for blood tests for thyroid hormons, basic antenatal profile. Ask her to get pelvic ultrasound to see location of the pregnancy. Start with folic acid, have a diet rich in protein, plenty of water, lots of vegetables, milk products, eggs, dry fruits. Avoid food from outside, street food, preserved food. Wish you happy and healthy pregnancy.

This may be due to general weakness. If you feel discomfort like headache, giddiness and only if it is due to sunlight, avoid going out between 11a. M.-4p. M. If necessary do carry an umbrella. Drink plenty of fluids, fruit juices. Increase intake of fruits, cucumber, and greens. Regularly oil your head. Have protein-rich diet for breakfast. Do not skip meals.

Leucorrhea/ Vaginal disharge

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
Leucorrhea/ Vaginal disharge

Leucorrhea or excessive discharge per vagina can be a troublesome problem for many women. At certain times in the menstrual cycle the vaginal discharge is normally increased as in mid-cycle and just before the periods. This is normal . However if the discharge is smelly or excessive warranting use of sanitary towels or panty liners or associated with vulval/ vaginal itching it needs to be investigated.

Abnormal vaginal discharge associated with the above symptoms may be due to local infection. It may also be related to poor health, mal-nutrition, constipation, worm infestation , anaemia, local trauma and allergy to local soaps and deodrants.

If the discharge is persistent it is very important to consult a Gynaecologist who may prescribe antibiotics, creams, pessaries and sometimes get swabs done.

It is important to keep the area clean using plain water and dry One should avoid any form of soap/ dettol/ detergent and powders and perfumes in that area as it is very sensitive. Also general health should be improved and anaemia and mal-nutrion should be corrected. Deworming may be required. A local wash like V-wash can be applied once in a while locally that helps maintaining local pH. Drinking adequate water daily is also very important.

Hello- If menstrual flow is obstructed the blood clots inside uterus and comes out in next menstrual cycle. Obstruction in menses blood is due to improper bowel/constipation just before the menses. It can be cured by the use of Fal Ghrita.

Darkening of urine has various reasons to blame. To know the exact reasons do a routine urine examination and urine microscopy. Unless you have fever too, urinary infection is less likely.

Hello. Yes, of course, it's possible! (an old saying goes -'nothing is impossible). Any disease, bacteria, virus, parasite invades your body and attacks you when your immune system goes down! strong immune system is like our strong soldiers who kept protecting us continuously from the attack of an enemy. Eat properly to for strong immunity, maintain hygiene, keep the surroundings neat and clean, take enough of sound sleep and be happy and positive! so, follow the below points: - reduce your stress. Studies show it can even weaken your immune system. - build a strong social network. People with healthy relationships are likely to outlive those with poor social links. - keep a positive attitude. Look for the silver lining in difficult situations, and try not to dwell on negative thoughts. - have a laugh. - eat your antioxidants. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables can help you get a healthy dose of antioxidants. These substances found in foods help protect your cells from free radicals, molecules that can damage cells. - avoid empty calories. Processed treats like fast foods, snack foods, candy, and soda don't provide much in the way of vitamins, fiber, or other nutrients. - consider herbs and supplements. These include garlic, ginseng, milk thistle, and probiotics like lactobacillus and bifidobacterium. - keep your body moving. Exercise is a simple way to strengthen your immune system. Any type of movement can help, whether you ride a bike, walk, do yoga, swim, or even play golf. - get a good night's sleep. Most adults need about 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Keep a regular schedule, get some exercise, avoid caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime, relax before bedtime, and keep your bedroom cool. - limit alcohol. - kick the nicotine habit. - wash your hands.

85% Urban Indians Often Ignore These Health Areas

ARDMS, Diploma in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Diploma in Hospital Management, FMGEMS, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
85% Urban Indians Often Ignore These Health Areas
4 Health Areas We Often Neglect

Good health is a big issue in our sedentary lifestyles and whenever a person thinks about getting back in shape, the key areas he/she focuses on is nutrition and exercise. However, there are a number of other areas which are deeply linked to our general well-being and these are often overlooked. Here are the four additional health areas which play an important role in keeping you fit and healthy:

1. Effective Stress Management
A majority of people believe that their daily exercise regime also simultaneously acts as their stress buster. However, exercise only stimulates the sympathetic nervous system of the brain. In order to elicit a response from the parasympathetic nervous system; you need to indulge in certain relaxing activities such as meditation, listening to music, yoga etc.

2. Healthy Sleep Pattern
Maintaining a healthy sleep pattern is a must, as sleep deprivation greatly alters your hormones and results in an increased caloric intake. It has been proven to alter the hormones ghrelin and leptin, which ultimately leads to obesity. Moreover, prolonged exposure to artificial light hinders the functioning of the scn (suprachiasmatic nucleus); the part of brain responsible for maintaining a 24-hour cycle for the hormones of your body.

3. Building Social Relationships
Meeting friends and family regularly, chatting with them and spending time with them is as important as exercising or having a proper diet. The release of oxytocin, an immunoregulatory hormone, has been linked to social interactions.

4. Adequate Dose of Vitamin D
Although it is well-known that vitamin d helps build immunity against certain diseases such as cancer, heart problems and osteoporosis; it has been found that it may also play an important role in controlling our dietary habits. Research has shown that vitamin d regulates your consumption of food by acting as an energy homeostatic hormone present in the hypothalamus.

Hi, my wife is 31 yrs old, we are trying since last 5 years for a baby but could not succeeded. Even we tried artificial insemination but no luck. Now doctor told that there is a fabriod in uterus of size 4cms so we should remove it. Does fabriod could cause infertility issues?

MBBS (Gold Medalist, Hons), MS (Obst and Gynae- Gold Medalist), DNB (Obst and Gynae), Fellow- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (ACOG, USA), FIAOG

Fibroid rarely causes infertility. Artificial insemination one cycle has success rate of only 25%. So, it al depends how many cycles you have done.

Last 4 years I have pcod problem. After marriage this problem continues means I have no children sir. what can be done?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Chandigarh
If you are already diagnosed with pcod, you need to visit your gynaecologist for infertility evaluation to find if there is any other cause of your infertility other than pcod. Weight reduction and healthy lifestyle is the key for pcod. Get your usg pelvic organs done if not recently done for follicular /ovulation study and other tests like tsh, prolactin esr, cbc, tubal patency test. After the initial work up you will be required to undergo ovulation induction, its monitoring (with or without hcg injection) followed by timed intercourse/ iui.
