Infertility - Understanding the Reasons Behind it!

Female infertility is not really a rare condition, it happens to one out of six couples. Infertility is a condition in which a woman is unable to conceive despite efforts. There can be a number of causes for female infertility, including problems with ovulation, uterus, fallopian tubes or ovaries. Age can also be a contributing factor to infertility. Following are the reasons that might be responsible for female infertility

  1. Ovulatory problems
    • Cysts in the ovaries
    • Hormonal imbalance
    • Excessive alcohol or drug usage
    • Eating disorders like bulimia or anorexia
    • Excessive weight
    • Enormous stress and pressure
    • Thyroid gland issues
    • Very brief menstrual cycles
  2. Damage of organs of reproductive system
  3. Pelvic inflammatory disease
  4. Scar tissues or adhesions of some sort
  5. Presence of polyps in the uterus
  6. A previous serious infection in the fallopian tubes or uterus
  7. Chronic medical illness relating to the reproductive system
  8. A previous ectopic pregnancy
  9. A birth defect in the uterus or fallopian tube
  10. The DES syndrome where in the infertility can occur to the offspring due to the medication DES is given to a mother in order to prevent miscarriage or premature of the child.
  11. Abnormal presence of cervical mucus can make it more difficult for sperms to reach the egg.

Now that the part about the causes has been discussed, it is essential to discuss the treatment. Are there really ways to reverse infertility in women to make them fertile? Well, in some chronic cases it is not possible; however, some are treatable by the following methods:

  • In the case of hormone imbalance or endometriosis or short menstrual cycles, hormones are taken to treat the problems.
  • Medications can be taken to stimulate ovulations.
  • Fertility enhancing supplements can be used.
  • In case of infection in any of the reproductive parts, antibiotics can be taken to remove them
  • In order to remove blockage or scar tissues from the uterus, fallopian tube or pelvic area, minor surgeries can be performed.

Yes, there are some tips for prevention of infertility

  • Taking all the steps required to avoid sexually transmitted diseases.
  • Avoid intake of illicit drugs
  • Having regular checkups with the gynaecologist
  • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Exercising regularly
  • Having a healthy sexual relationship

He has had surgery for buccal cavity squamous cell carcinoma n has to undergo radiation fr 45 days can he have a safe sexual relationship without passing infection of any sort.

MBBS, Fellowship in critical care
General Physician, Bangalore
He would not be passing any infection but his partner could definitely pass any kind of infection to him as at this. Stage any infection could be life threatening as he will be immunocompromised due to. Chemo and radiotherapy and not to miss the surgery itself.

Hi, I am a 19 year old male, I nd my girlfriend had protected sex on the most fertile day of the month, we did do some foreplay after the intercourse, that we did some kissing nd fingering etc, can it be possible that my sperm got touched on her vagina by mistake while fingering. As now its been 14 days since we hav had that intercourse nd now she is showing signs of pregnancy, like, headache, vomiting feeling (did not vomit yet), backache, pain on the breasts, darkened nipples (not the areola), itching inside the vagina, increased appetite, stomach aches at times. We r really confused on what it cud be, what could be the possible reason fr all these signs. How can we stop it. We do not want any family involvement, please help us to get out of it. We want to sort it out at the earliest.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
You say you had protected sex with your girl friend and then indulged in post sex finger play. I assume that by protected you mean, youw ere wearing a condom. It is possible that at sex the condom is broken and it may have leaked. But very few realise this. After removal of the condom, no one checks for the condom to be intact. If you have removed the condom by your hands and used the same to do the finger play, it is possible that some semen that have coated your finger and have made her pregnant. But from the text you have sent there is no mention of having done a pregnancy test. Symptoms similar to pregnancy often occur in girls before menses, so one cannot rely on just the symptoms to diagnose pregnancy. Best would be to do a urine pregnancy test in a lab using the first sample of urine passed by the girl in the morning. If it comes positive, she is pregnant and you will have to seek help of a gyenc to do the needful but if negative, she may not be pregnant and wait of a few days may show her menses. If menses do not come, she may need to check the urine again 15 days after the expected date of menses. The first step would be to stop worrying if you are sure that the condom had not broken, and to do the urine pregnancy test.

I have missed miscarriage two time. And I do all report before pregnancy and after it. So I i want know what is ANA? ANA test is positive. Is good or bad? Also torch profile: rubella igG :0.326.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
A positive antinuclear antibody (ANA) test does not automatically mean you have lupus. Your immune system is your body's natural defense against disease. A positive ANA blood test shows that your immune system is making an antibody (protein) that reacts with components of your body's cells. A positive rubella IgG test result is good-it means that you are immune to rubella and cannot get the infection. This is the most common rubella test done. Negative: Less than 7 IU/mL IgG antibodies and less than 0.9 IgM antibodies.

7 Common Diseases That Yoga Can Help You Manage

7 Common Diseases That Yoga Can Help You Manage

Yoga is a great way to get rid of diseases and health conditions from heart problems to back pain, sciatica and depression. There exists a body of research suggesting that yoga is the best healing therapy for improving spine alignment and joint health. But on the flip side, research also suggests that yoga can’t cure cancers though it can help one deal with chemotherapy.

But you can certainly try yoga for these diseases and conditions

  1. Digestive disorders: There are a number of asanas and pranayamas like the child pose or bala asana and kapalbhati pranayama, which can alleviate indigestion, gas and flatulence. These also help in bowel movement. The Boat pose which is done by stretching your legs and arms straight out parallel in front of you and then raising legs so toes are above eye level is very good for stomach disorders and so is the downward dog pose.
  2. Back pain: More than 50 percent adults will face back pain due to a number of reasons in their lifetime. Simple stretching or yoga stretches can both help in the prevention of back pain. Tadasana is very good for aligning the vertebral column and getting rid of back pain. Surya namaskar stretches are very helpful too. You can also try Jatara Parivartanasana, Upavista Konasana or forward bends, Paschimottanasana or seated forward bend and Bhujangasana or cobra pose for back pain.
  3. Heart disease: Bhujangasana or cobra pose stretches the chest, massaging organs inside, including heart, and allowing more blood flow to it, thus stimulating and strengthening heart muscle. Kapalbhati pranayama is also very good for the heart since it increases the absorption of oxygen in the blood. Yoga is proven to be an excellent heart risk improvement practice according to current research too.
  4. Depression: Anulom vilom pranayama is extremely effective in tackling anxiety and depression. It slows down breathing and is effective against hypertension too when done regularly over a long time. The deep breathing done while doing this pranayama helps slow heart rate and allows the lungs to absorb more oxygen.
  5. Diabetes: Surya namaskar or the twelve sun salutation poses help control diabetes as it promotes the production of insulin. The corpse pose is good too.
  6. Headaches: Migraines and headaches are common problems that can be handled using yoga. Poses like Sirsasana that increase the flow of oxygen to the brain can alleviate migraines easily.
  7. Thyroid disorders: Yoga asanas like shoulder stand, inverted pose, plough pose and the fish pose all help in making the thyroid gland work optimally again. The cobra pose and Ujjayi pranayama also work wonders by re-balancing metabolism and working on the throat reflex pathways to cure thyroid imbalance. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

My daughter 17 years old she has problem of heavy bleeding her first period came on the of 11 . She has a acquit bleeding problem her all test are normal when she take loette then her bleeding are in control. I am very much upset what can I do.

CCP, MBA, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Karnal
Heavy bleeding sometimes is normal, but if it is regular, it means the pitta dosha is increased in body. Give her cooling foods like coconut, ghee, milk etc. Avoid salt, spices, sour foods, junk foods, tea coffee etc. If the problem persists, then medicine may have to be given. Contact me again for that.

Sexologist, Panchkula
If the lump is red and tender to touch, it could be another abscess. You should get proper antibiotic treatment before going for its removal.

Yoga For Mental Health!

Yoga For Mental Health!

What is yoga?

Yoga is the practice of asanas and breathing techniques deigned to strengthen both the body and the mind. Therefore, there are many benefits of practicing yoga for your mental health. The practice of yoga has increased worldwide. The reason this 5000-year-old tradition is slowly taking over is due to the immense impact it has on your mental health. Stress, anxiety, insomnia etc. are all slowly on the increase and thanks to the proven impact yoga has on regulating each of these conditions, the practice is slowly increasing.

Here are some of the impacts of yoga on mental health:

1. It moves you from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic nervous system:

In simple terms, it takes you from the fight or flight reactions to the rest & digest. In a more relaxed state you typically feel less anxiety and stress.

2. Yoga decreases heart-rate and blood pressure:

Doing an hour of yoga a day can help decrease your heart rate and blood pressure. Once your heart rate is in control it slowly brings about a more relaxed state. This in turn helps reduce the levels of anxiety.

3. Yoga encourages a positive mind-set:

Like any form of exercise, yoga release endorphins, that are feel good chemicals. The release of this neurotransmitter helps reduce stress levels and forces the brain to re-write itself in positive ways. A more positive attitude also helps manage depression better.

4. Yoga improves attention and memory:

Another important benefit to yoga is the impact it has on memory and attention span. After only a 20-minute yoga workout, memory and concentration improves.

5. Yoga helps build self-esteem:

Self-esteem is an important aspect of self. You cultivate a non-judgemental relationship with yourself. You learn to trust your decisions and actions. Your confidence levels increase and this helps you build a healthy ego wherein you have nothing to prove and only work for your satisfaction.
