Dental Implants or Dentures - What is Best Suitable for You?

Dentist, Faridabad
Dental Implants or Dentures - What is Best Suitable for You?

Tooth loss occurs due to various reasons decay and infection, fracture, accidents, gum disease, to name a few. Tooth loss has a negative impact on various aspects facial appearance, chewing efficiency, and overall nutrition. The attempts to restore the lost tooth have led to various advancements from removable dentures to cast partial dentures to fixed dentures to implants.

Listed below are features (covering advantages and disadvantages) of both dentures (fixed and removable) and implants. While dentures can be complete or partial, implants are more often partial, of course can be used to replace multiple teeth. A detailed discussion with your dentist along with oral and radiographic examination will help in making a decision.

Removable Dentures:

Advantages:

  1. Replaces tooth but more for cosmetic reasons than function.

  2. Poor chewing efficiency.

  3. Useful when multiple teeth are to be replaced, especially when no adjacent teeth are available for support.

  4. If good bone support is not available, retention is an issue.

  5. Not very healthy for the underlying jaw bone and adjacent gums.

  6. Requires daily and routine maintenance.

Fixed Denture(s):

Also called as bridges, as the artificial replaced tooth is a bridge between two natural teeth.

  1. Requires removal of sound tooth structure as abutment (support). This is the major disadvantage with fixed dentures, which promoted further work from the dentists, ending up with discovery of implants.

  2. Promotes tooth decay in the adjacent teeth.

  3. Good support, so retention is not an issue.

  4. Not as harmful to the underlying jaw bone as removable denture.

  5. Requires maintenance but not like the removable denture.

  6. Expensive compared to removable dentures.

  7. Replacing a bridge also means the adjacent healthy teeth are affected.

Implants:

  1. Very good replacement alternative, replaces not just the crown structure but also the root structure.

  2. An excellent option when the jaw bones and gums are extremely in good condition.

  3. Almost natural restoration of both chewing efficiency and facial appearance, the person can eat almost anything.

  4. Not as harmful on the gums like dentures.

  5. Does not cause bone loss like dentures.

  6. Can be used to replace single or multiple teeth, where multiple implants are placed and a bridge is placed over them.

  7. The titanium screws that are used fuse with the jaw bone over a period of time.

  8. The titanium is also biocompatible, thereby reducing chances of allergy.

  9. Implants are expensive, and many insurance companies may not cover them.

  10. If properly fabricated and maintained well, then it can last for decades.

The decision to go for a denture or for an implant should be decided based on a detailed evaluation of overall health and if required radiographic examination. Both dentures and implants have advantages and disadvantages, and the dentist will help make the right choice. If you wish to discuss about any specific dental problem, you can consult a specilized dentist and ask a free question.

I have taken xylometazoline from my mouth. Is it dangerous. Give me suggestions m afraid.
Xylometazoline acts on adrenergic receptors of nasal mucosa to relieve the congestion by constricting the inflamed or swollen nasal blood vessels. If you are a patient of high blood pressure or suffering from any cardiac ailment please avoid the drug. Otherwise you may feel free to use it. Better not take overdose.

Although bad smell is caused by various factors you probably have gum diseases which is caused due to deposition of plaques and calculus. You might need a professional cleaning along with medications. A cariesed tooth can also cause bad smell.

I have dental issue since last week. Got bleeding frequently please suggest me what to do.
Bleeding can happen because of swollen gums which is result of tartar or calculus deposits. That deposits need to be dislodged for healthy gums.

The mouth is home to hundreds of bacterial species with various nutritional preferences. These organisms usually enjoy proteins, and as they digest proteins several fetid substances arise. The role of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) in producing bacteria that colonize over the tongue was recently understood as a main cause of halitosis (bad breath). The most common VSCs, such as methylmercaptan and hydrogen sulfite, can be detected by using organoleptic and objective methods. Treatment includes maintaining good oral hygiene, brush two times a day and gargle with salted water after meals

A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Dental Care during Summer

Dental Care during Summer

Ever increasing temperature during summers make it very essential to be hydrated with lots of fluids taken in a frequent interval. Proper hydration not only helps general health, it also helps the oral health by maintaining right moisture in the mouth. Natural juices like tender coconut, buttermilk, lassi etc make good choices while carbonated drinks should be avoided.

I am getting my wisdom teeth and I am unable to take my meal. Can you help me with this issue?
You can take a pain killer for temporary relief. If pain is severe, you might need antibiotics too. Do warm salt water gargling to keep the area free of infection.

For whiter teeth, slosh your mouth with sesame, coconut or sunflower oil for 15 minutes and then spit it out. It is known as oil pulling, a popular folk remedy. It lubricates the gums and acts as a flossing agent.

It can be adjusted by your wish. For that you have to wear the braces or put the crown over the teeth.
