Hello. Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight, avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). (excessive sitting or standing is to be avoided as well dont carry much weight on shoulders). Exercise: practice shavasana or corpse pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. Management: -stretching or activities that place additional strain on the back are discouraged. -sleeping with a pillow between the knees while lying on one side may increase comfort. -lying on your back with a pillow under your knees would also relieves pain and no pillow under your head. -some people seem to benefit from the use of ice or heat. Take care, do not use a heating pad on high or place ice directly on the skin. Medication: take homoeopathic medicines - arnica 200 and rhus tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply schwabe's topi-arnica and topi mp gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. Get back to me thereafter.

My 45 year old mom has diabetes from 8 years. She is taking insulin. From 3 years she is having severe knee pain. And all types of treatment has done and none worked. The only treatment I feel effective is weight control and regular exercises especially quadriceps exercises. If its bone on bone grade 4 arthritis which can be very much seen on standing knee X-rays the treatment would be replacement. All the interim measures as stated above are not long term as its more of a mechanical problem and do not offer long term results in sever OA.

If the reports are normal you need to do few flexibility exercises along with core and back muscle strengthening exercises twice a day for 15 to 20 days. This will improve you back strength and flexibility and pain will be relieved soon. Take care.

It might be of cervical spine of shoulder muscle strain do consult neuro physiotherapist and have ift and laser therapy for 12 days followed by mobilisation exercises.

If it's an acute pain than do any exercise. You need to rest the joint and apply ice for 15-20 min, 4-5 times a day for 5days. Its a chronic means you having it for more time than please consult with the nearer physiotherapist doctor. Bez your shoulder is a complex joint and you can't start exercise without physiotherapist assessment and advises.

Hi excessive day-time sleepiness and foot swelling. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Most of your conditions needs attention from a general physician/diabetologist but I can advise you regarding your knee pain. Even your foot swelling probably does not have a musculoskeletal cause, but still I can tell you that persistent swelling in foot region can be due to deranged kft, lft, thyroid profile and issues with heart. Sometimes even chronic protein deficiency can lead to persistent foot swelling. Looking at your age, I would think that if there are no external s/s of inflammation, then knee pain would be due to degenerative changes setting in the joint. Please catch hold of a good physical therapist and do intensive knee - quadriceps and hamstring ex, avoid sitting cross legged and squatting, use a western toilet etc - take adequate calcium and vitamin d as per your body's requirement - daily walks for 2-3 km per day in morning should help you. You can take a short course of a safe anti-inflammatory medication - hot fomentation at home 3-4 times in a day might also help in your knee pain but mainstay remains exercises please send me both knee ( ap & lateral) x rays so that I can see and advise you accordingly. Advice…. Hot Fomentation x twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction. Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily Bhujang Asana x 15 timesx twice daily Core Strengthening Exercises. Back Stretching.

A day after a good workout session at gym, I am hearing a popping sound in my shoulder and bone/ muscle overlapping or moving one over other, though I feel a little pain when I move my hand up and down. Just curious to know is it any sign of injury or this happens? For this I got many replies and remedies like icing, low frequency exercise ,rest, it's been almost two weeks, still same condition.

You are doing some wrong steps and needs a professional trainer indeed. Do not force anything When you feel discomfort leave the exercise. Take Hypericum 1M - thrice daily 4 pills for next 7 days. Continue treatment

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Apply prasarini oil on affected part then give hot fomentation. Take maha jograj guggul 1-1 tab twice a day after lunch and dinner. Take maha rasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. Avoid tea. Coffee. Junk food. Fermented food. Spicy food. Rice. Walk for atleast 30 minutes a day. Do pranayama early morning. Sleep for atleast 7 hrs per day.

Hi, hope you are doing good, you can go for swimming it's very good exercise, and try to walk in water if it's possible and learn stretching and strengthing exercise of leg muscles with the help of any physiotherapist, and try to wake at least three km per day if possible, don't worry you will be fine, be happy and make other happy take care.

Cracks VS Fractures

A fracture separates a single solid object into two or more pieces due to pressure. In medical terms, a fracture refers to a broken bone due to some kind of external trauma. A crack in the bone, on the other hand, it does not cause a clean break in the bone, there is only a separation or discontinuity in the bone material.

A crack in the bone caused due to repeated stress is often called as 'hairline fracture'. Here are the basic differences between a crack and a fracture in the bone and how to treat them:

  1. A crack or hairline fracture is rarely caused by a single injury. It is usually the result of bone fatigue, which may be caused due to repeated, concentrated stress over a long period of time and thus, it is also called as 'stress fracture'. Other bone fractures are almost always the result of sudden and severe force on the bones.
  2. The skeletal system constantly remodels itself. The cells, known as 'osteoblasts' absorb calcium and secrete bone connective tissue. If a particular site is exposed to recurrent bouts of force (which are individually not impactful enough to cause a crack), over time the osteoblasts in that region malfunction and the crack appears. Muscular exhaustion can also cause cracks in the bone. Fractures are caused due to sudden external single force trauma to the bone. Nutritional problems like deficiencies of Calcium, Phosphorus, vitamin D and excessive smoking decrease the bone mineral density and increase the chance of both cracks and fractures.
  3. Symptoms of a crack are swelling, tenderness and sharp pain in the injured region and the symptoms worsen over time. A fracture has similar symptoms and might also exhibit an external physical distortion and makes it impossible to move that part of the body that where the bone is broken.
  4. An MRI is often suggested for detecting the crack or crack-prone areas because an X-ray can only detect the crack after it widens somewhat or the bone starts paining because the rays cannot pass through the tiny gap in bone material. A fracture is easily detectable by an X-ray because the rays pass right through the break.
  5. Complete rest for six to eight weeks is the most effective way of healing a crack. Using a walking boot in case of cracks in the leg bones in also helpful. Healing fractures require extensive medical intervention. Surgical techniques like bone grafting and the insertion of metal plates are used to reposition the broken bone.
