Hi , I'm 22 week pregnant woman at 21 st week I did my Sonography which results that I have low lying placenta having cervix length 2.9 cm. Doctor suggested me to take stitches immediately even they started weekly progesterone injection. So I am tensed really I go through cerlage or not. Kindly help me by giving suggestion.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi, low-lying placenta, or placenta praevia, is a complication of pregnancy where the placenta that feeds the growing baby is attached to the lower part of the womb near to or covering the cervix. Low-lying placenta may be picked up during a routine 20-week ultrasound scan appointment. In some cases, a placenta that is seen to be low-lying will move upwards later in pregnancy. Your care will vary depending on whether or not you've had any bleeding. You may be advised to avoid having sex for the rest of your pregnancy, particularly if you've had bleeding. If you remain free of complications, you're likely to be offered a planned caesarean after 38 weeks. If you have major placenta praevia, or have had bleeding, you may be admitted to hospital when you're 34 weeks pregnant. If you've had no bleeding, you'll probably be able to stay at home. ***************you can consult a gynaecologist for cross-checking************

I had unsafe sex with my wife and she got pregnant. But after 2 months we came to know about pregnancy. But she does not want baby. What is the medicine to abort pregnancy. please tell as soon as possible.

MBBS, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
The only option for termination of 2 months old pregnancy is that you go to a nearby gynaecologist. She will get a few blood tests and an ultrasound done and then prescribe you medicines for abortion if the pregnancy is less than 7 weeks. If the pregnancy is more than 7 weeks, then she will have to undergo a surgical procedure for termination of pregnancy. So, don't panic and seek the advice of doctor as soon as possible.

Dear user. FERTILE PHASE is the phase of a female's menstrual cycle when an egg (ovule) is released from the ovaries. In humans, ovulation occurs about midway through the menstrual cycle, after the follicular phase. The few days surrounding ovulation (from approximately days 10 to 18 of a 28 day cycle), constitute the most fertile phase. So if you have ejaculatory sexual inter course from day 10 from the first day of period and to day 20, the chances of pregnancy are much more. There are many determinants of pregnancy. You should be sexually matured. Your partner should be sexually matured. The period of your partner should be in the fertile stage. Her egg and your sperm cells should healthy enough. Then her uterus should be capable to get conceived. If all these were satisfied, the pregnancy could be a result. Take care.

Am 30 weeks pregnant now. My baby weight is 1.5 it normal or my baby weight is low?

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
During this 30th week of pregnancy, your baby continues to steadily add weight and important, insulating layers of fat to his body. At 30 weeks of pregnancy, your baby weighs about 1.36 kg and is about 25 cm long from crown to rump, or about the length of a bunch of celery.

Hello doctor, I am 27 years age, female. I am pregnant with 10 weeks, last week I went for scan and reports say that my baby heartbeat is flicker seen. What does it mean by Flicker in the heartbeat? Is the Heart formed for the baby or any issues?

Flicker in the heartbeat means heart is formed and heartbeat is missing inbetween, due to position of the baby. So don't worry and relax.

Endometriosis - What are the Symptoms and Consequences of it?

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Nagpur
Endometriosis - What are the Symptoms and Consequences of it?

A woman’s body goes through a number of changes during her lifetime and therefore, it is always better to undergo regular health check-ups at proper intervals to ensure that all organs of her body function well.

Endometriosis is something, which every woman is likely to have heard about. However, not many women are aware of what it exactly is. Even fewer know about what they should look out for when it comes to having endometriosis or understanding what it means to be suffering from it. Is it not a lot better to be informed about all of this?

The condition of endometriosis is when the tissue that is supposed to be inside the uterus also known as the womb and lining, starts growing outside it. What effectively happens is that the lining of the uterus, known as the endometrium, is trapped in the pelvic area.

Some amount of discomfort is usually experienced by women who are menstruating. However, when a woman has endometriosis, the amount of pain is pretty persistent, sometimes extending to a month-long duration. Some women also suffer from excess bleeding.

Unfortunately, the symptoms are not only limited to this. Women who are adversely affected by endometriosis usually find having sex painful as well, ironic as it is supposed to provide pleasure.

Also fertility is the primary function affected by it. There are so many complications in this regard. It is said that about 50 percent of women who have endometriosis have trouble getting pregnant and carrying a baby. Effectively, as sad as it is, endometriosis has the potential to take away the entire prospect of motherhood from a woman.

In addition to this, a fair number of cases, show that the symptoms, which are experienced worsen over the course of time. So, what this means is that the lifestyle of the woman may be severely affected as the symptoms get progressively worse; which is just one of the reasons why treatment is something, which should be resorted to sooner than later.

One of the lifestyle changes which may be beneficial in reducing the severity of endometriosis includes a change in your diet. Increased intake of green vegetables and fresh fruits along with a reduced consumption of red meat is definitely worth a try. Regular exercising is also helpful in treating the condition.

Complications Related To Laparoscopic Surgery!

General Surgeon, Guwahati
Complications Related To Laparoscopic Surgery!

Laparoscopic surgery is also known as minimally invasive surgery. It leads to a lesser amount of pain after the surgery, and therefore requires less medication also. It reduces the possibility of hemorrhage, thereby, lowering the possibility of requiring blood transfusion. The smaller length and depth of the incision also means that the patient recovers from the surgery faster than usual. There is also a lesser chance of contracting infections because a larger number of organs remain unexposed and therefore uncontaminated. Laparoscopic surgeries also cause smaller, lighter scars once the surgery wound heals completely.

However, as with any surgery, complications may occur during the course of laparoscopic surgery.

  1. Wound infection: Even though laparoscopic surgery is minimally invasive and the possibility of contracting infections is considerably less, the wound is capable of getting infected. Hence, it is essential to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene recommendations provided by the concerned medical staff. It is also assumed that the surgeons would prevent this possibility by maintaining strict protocols regarding this issue on their part.
  2. Bruising: After surgery, depending on the type and duration of the procedure, the patient is always advised to follow certain restrictions regarding mobility and restriction of normal day to day functioning. These rules must be followed in order to prevent the possibility of bruising after a laparoscopic surgery.
  3. Hematoma formation: A hematoma is an accumulation of blood outside the blood vessel. This is not normal at all and requires urgent inspection and treatment. This is a relatively common complication that happens after a laparoscopic surgical procedure. Precautions are taken by surgeons to avoid this but it may still occur. It needs to be diagnosed early, and then the bleeding vessel needs to be emobilized selectively in order to reduce any further complication of this type.
  4. Anesthesia related complications: To prevent anesthesia related complications during laparoscopic surgery, it is essential that procedures related to the airways, ventilation, analgesia, antimetics are followed in the preoperative state.
  5. Injury: Any injury that may be inflicted on the blood vessels present in the walls of the abdomen or on the sidewall in the pelvic region, as well as injuries in the bowel area and the urinary tract. Proper protocol must be followed by the doctor to avoid such complications as much as possible. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general surgeon.

Is it safe to have sex when your periods date is closer like 5 days and what all consequences will be there? Does these effects my periods like preponned period or postponed periods.

General Physician, Noida
In fact having intercourse 5 days before periods is a very good time ,that this is a safe period to avoid pregnancy; there are no bad consequences; neither pre or postponement; a week prior to menses is a safe period so no tensions.

Yeast Infection - 9 Reasons Behind It!

Yeast infections are caused due to the overgrowth of yeast, which is a fungus. This type of infection is also called as candidiasis. Most women in the world are likely to get infected with vaginal or vulvo-vaginal candidiasis at least once in their lifetime. The most common causative organism of this disease is Candida albicans. The other Candida species that might cause these are C. glabrata, C. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, and C. krusei.
Sometimes, it becomes chronic and may appear 4-5 times in a year.

Other types of yeast infections
Yeast infections can be caused in other parts of the body as well. When yeast infections occur in the mouth, it is called thrush or oropharyngeal candidiasis. Yeast infections are mostly found in moist, warm areas such as armpits, genital area etc. This type is called cutaneous candidiasis. Most candida infections are not very harmful. However, if they reach the blood stream, it can result in fatality. This is called invasive candidiasis and can happen by inserting an infected catheter, etc.

What causes candidiasis?
Candidiasis is caused when the natural flora of the area is thrown off balance. The most common causes of candidiasis are:

  1. Obesity
  2. Diabetes
  3. Diseases such as HIV which suppress immunity
  4. Pregnancy
  5. Antibiotics, steroids and birth control pills
  6. Vaginal douching
  7. Using perfumed products such as soap and bubble baths
  8. Wearing tight clothing such as synthetic underwear and spandex that do not allow your genitals to breathe

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

My wife age 28 years is pregnant by 37 weeks 1 day .In last doctor visit we are asked to go for planned c section in a day or two as doctor says the placenta is mature (age 3) and liquid is getting lower. So we should not wait for due date. While till now every thing was normal .All reports were ok. Suddenly we are said for c section. My wife is weighing 76 kg while baby weight was 2.6 kg last Monday. What should we do now.

Hello dear, your doctor is absolutely correct in suggesting for lscs. Grade 3 maturity of placenta with reduced liquor indicates that baby might land in trouble. So it's better to deliver once maturity is attained.

Hello lybrate-user. An menstrual period comes every 28days. Your wife's last mc was on second jan. I would suggest to wait for few days till 5th feb. If still she doesn't get her periods then kindly do a urine pregnancy test. If negative wait for mc again for a few days. If positive then you can consult a gynaec and get an mtp done. For prevention of pregnancy, I m sorry to inform but no medicines can b taken at the moment. Wait and watch is the only available option.
