High Myopia -18 , any suggestion for laser/lezic or other surgery or continue with contact lenses

FVRS, DNB Ophthalmology, MS Ophthalmology, MBBS, FICO
Ophthalmologist, Chennai
LASIK will not be a good choice for such high myopia. ICL ( intaocular collamer lenses ) which are implanted in the eye by surgery might be a better option.

I can't see without glasses My glasses number is 3.5 if I will do LASIK surgery what will happen.

MBBS, DOMS, MS - Ophthalmology, , Fellowship in phacoemusification
Ophthalmologist, Patna
You are myopic by-3.5D,you can not see without glass or contact lens, there is advantage & disadvantage of every Surgery so the lasik or smile LASIK. LASIK is refractive surgery to correct myopia ,hypermetropia & astigmatism, refractive surgery also include intraocular ocular lens procedure. For LASIK your eyes must be healthy, if you have persistent dry eyes, LASIK surgery may aggravate this condition resulting in burning sensation & blurring of vision after LASIK.   For LASIK cornea must  have sufficient thickness because in reshaping of cornea, you loose the thickness of cornea & if your cornea is too thin ,you are not  fit case for LASIK.  -1Dof myopic correction consumes  35 micron of corneal thicknes. Average thickness of cornea in Indian is 450 micron to 500 micron& after LASIK there  should be around 300 micron thickness of cornea for safety of eye in future. Pupils are usually large in myopic people who undergo LASIK  operation resulting in side effects such as halos, glares especially in those who drive in night. LASIK for the treatment of high retractive errors are less predictable, because very high amount of myopia could require removal of too much corneal tissue putting at increased risk of Vision complications. LASIK should not be undertaken before 21 years in male & 19 years in female because myopic power increases by that age. You must have stable power before LASIK. There is no upper age limit but one should keep in mind that once you are 40 years old, you may still need reading  glass due to presbyopia changing every two years till you develop cataract in old age. Contraindications for LASIK -degenerative disease, Sjogren syndrome, type one diabetes etc. People who are taking immunosuppressive drugs, must think ten times before undergoing for LASIK surgery. One must go LASIK screening before taking decision for LASIK. One undergoes for LASIK should be fully aware of  potential LASIK complications & should not hide anything from operating surgeon about health.

All software professionals are having same problems because most of them don't know how to work on computer for long time without giving discomfort to eyes. While working on computer number of blinking drastically goes down from around 24 per minute to around 8 per minute leading to severe dryness causing burning ,eyestrain, temporary blurring of vision,& headache. One should try to have normal blinking while working on computer ,should look away from screen after every 10 minute& should take rest for 10 minutes after every two hours. You should also use lubricating eye drops( Systane ultra) 5-6 times daily & genteal gel once at bed time.

Headaches b blurred vision c. Neck pain d redness in the eyes e. Eye strain f dry eyes these symptoms can be further aggravated by improper lighting conditions. Measures to reduce this include 1. MBBS, DOMS

This kind of blurred vision happens in few people, it will be temporary usually. Make sure you go for your review consultation in the next few days, so that nothing more serious can be ruled out and your doctor can reassure you.

My dad is suffering from glaucoma his iop is very high now the doctor told to do a cyclocryotheraphy and doctor told only iop lol be cured no vision will be there his left eye is total damaged the nerve he can't see what to do can is it possible if a donate give an eye he can able to see please sir help me I am very confused.

DNB Ophtalmology, MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
a high intra ocular pressure injures the optic nerve cells and cause irreversible cell death. These cells can't regenerate and hence vision can't be restored. The eye donation - helps treat corneal opacities if the optic nerve and retina are healthy. The cyclocryo has been advised to decrease the production of intra ocular fluid to help decrease the eye pressure. The doctor will have discussed the possible consequences. Of importance , especially if ur father had primary forms of glaucoma is to evaluate ur eyes n that of close family members to identify their risk of developing glaucoma. Early diagnosis and treatment are invaluable in this disease.

Eye strain as the cause of headache

MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Jaipur
Eye strain as the cause of headache
Commonest cause of headache is refractive error may it be very small. Hypermetropia and any type of astigmatism if not corrected properly can give mild to severe headache as well as watering from the eyes. Most often, headache patients visit neurologist who advises mri brain which is almost always normal. A patient for headache must get blood pressure checked and visit ophthalmologist to be examined after dilatation of pupil. Quite often, minor refractive errors are only detected when patient or even a child is examined after dilating the pupil. Ophthalmologist can also detect and brain problem by fundus examination. Do not neglect any headache or minor watering of eyes.

I am 30 years old. 8 years ago I was disorganized with CRVO disorder. Due to small town and non availability of good doctors, I was told to leave the condition as it is and keep a check over the swelling occurred due to it. After 3 years I consult some other doctor in Pune where he told me I have swelling in my right eye as well. He prescribed few medicines but after few years my right eye vision became blur. I consulted few other doctors in Jaipur who prescribed steroid (prednisolone) to control the inner inflammation. Using steroid was a temporary solution but it helped developing cataract in my right eye. Now doctor says my left eye actual had CRAO instead of CRVO and it cannot be cured and as far as my right eye is concerned it has chronic uveitis along with cataract. Doctor has again prescribed steroid to settle uveitis post which a cataract surgery will be performed. Doctors are not giving a specific time for the surgery and I am facing challenges to perform my day to day activities. Can somebody please review and help me.

DNB Ophtalmology, MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Vessel occlusion- CRVO or CRAO can be secondary to inflammation like uveitis. In cases of Uveitis immunosuppresants- steroids or steroid sparing ones are given to suppress the inflammation. The dosage n duration depends upon disease activity. Sometimes a maintenance dose is required for years. Also, you should have undergone a series of blood and radiological investigations to try and detect any systemic disease. Uveitis is an inflammation of eye frequently but not always associated with disease involving multiple organs of the body. One of the prerequisites for operating an eye with history of uveitis is to ensure no episode of active inflammation predlferably for 6 months or at least 3 months. And to operate under steroids cover. This is important as any intravascular surgery induces inflammation 8n the eye and in patients with history of uveitis it can be sight threatening. By what you have described. Your treatment seems to be online. Please contact if you need further clarifications.

There are multiple causes responsible for diminution/ blurring of vision. Let me enumerate them in brief for you: (1) refractive error. This is one of the commonest reasons responsible. Minus or plus number in one eye or both eyes may be responsible for weak/ blurred vision. The solution for this is glasses/ contact lens/ refractive surgery (if applicable). It should be checked by a trained optometrist/ ophthalmologist and proper glasses should be prescribed. (2) cornea related problem: injury, degeneration, infections or inflammation occurring on the cornea tend to causes loss of transparency and lead to weakening of vision. These should be assessed preferably by a cornea specialist and treated appropriately. (3) cataract in the lens of the eye: this usually occurs with increasing age but in some cases may occur at a younger age. There are multiple systemic factors responsible (eg. Diabetes, increased cholesterol levels, etc) injury to the eye may also cause cataract. This should be assessed and treated appropriately by a cataract specialist. (4) retina/ vitreous problems: these occur due to a variety of reasons such as high minus numbers, diabetes, trauma, etc. These issues are best assessed and treated by a retina specialist. There are good quality surgical options available for the same. (5) optic nerve related problems: these may occur due to raised eye pressure (glaucoma), or occur in association with certain conditions related to the brain and the blood vessels. These are best assessed by a retina/ glaucoma specialist (whichever applicable). (6) neurological problems: certain problems in the brain and the central nervous system tend to cause weakening/ blurring of vision. These are best assessed by an eye specialist in concordance with a neurologist and a neurosurgeon if required. Thus, based on the category you fall under, it would be necessary to take appropriate help and treatment. Hope my suggestions helped you. Let me know if you require further assistance. Take care.
