High Resting Heart Rate is Bad!

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine, Post Graduate Program in Diabetology
General Physician, Delhi
High Resting Heart Rate is Bad!

Data show people with a high-normal resting heart rate of 80 to 99 beats per minute had shorter lifespans than those whose BPM ranged from 60 to 69, but researchers suggested increased physical activity may mitigate the effect. The study, presented at the World Heart Federation's World Congress of Cardiology & Cardiovascular Health, showed being active was associated with longer survival, and researchers said exercise may reduce the overlooked risk of a high-normal resting heart rate.

Dear lybrate-user, your blood pressure is very high and needs to be addressed immediately. I hope you are consulting a physician. First thing to be done is to identify the reason as high blood pressure is a symptom of an underlying disease. Get your cholestrol, kidney profile, liver profile and diabetes scanning done along with an ecg. And revert general guidelines would include stress reducing methodology like yoga, pranayam, low salt diet and ofcourse treating the cause. Do not delay please consult a physician immediately.

How to reduce cholesterol level from 262 to normal and LDL from 193 to normal. HDL is 44 Triglyceride 126 VL DL. 25.

How to reduce cholesterol level from 262 to normal and LDL from 193 to normal.
HDL is 44
Triglyceride 126
VL DL. 25.
Cholesterol level should be measured at least once every five years in everyone over age 20. The screening test that is usually performed is a blood test called a lipid profile. Experts recommend that men ages 35 and older and women ages 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. The lipoprotein profile includes: Total cholesetrol LDL (low-density lipoprotein CHOLESETROL also called "bad"CHOLESTETROL HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) TRIGLYCERIDES (fats carried in the BLOOD from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into TRIGLYCERIDES and stored in fat cells throughout the body. High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. GARLIC,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines . Cap. Ecosprin gold-10 at night daily.

My father was detected with localized prostate cancer last year and was followed by a heart attack later. His age is 61 years. He then have to undergo angioplasty with a non-drug eluting stent. Over one year has passed and his Stress test reports are excellent now as per cardiologist. Can he undergo a radical prostatectomy (prostate cancer surgery ) now or it will be risky for him to undergo surgery? Thank you.

Well one thing needs to be ruled out after one year gap is metastasis. So needs to undergo cect and bone scan if he is operable and pac fit then he can undergo the procedure otherwise hormonal/chemotherapy and performance status of patient is important it is slow growing tumour, if performance status is not good then hormonal therapy is advisable.

LCPS, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
General Physician,
I have chest pain from last 10 days
I am 15 years old what should I do.
For a 15 yrs old boy, heart condition is very very rare. So I will go for other simple reasons like worms, chest infection, esophagitis, bone and muscle disorder. This needs a personal check up. So go and see your family doctor. You should get rid of pain in less than a week.
