I am 29 years old from Bangalore and my question is on dental treatment. I had started dental treatment from year 2015 at Vasan dental Care. I had my three toot root canal done first, for which Rs. 4000 was charged for each tooth 4000x3=12000 and after root canal treatment, ortho treatment was started which was quoted Rs. 29000, now in 2016 November I have successfully completed my ortho treatment now I have planned to go with 3M Lava zirconium crown, since it’s for front tooth where I have been charged Rs. 13000 per tooth 13000x3=39000. I was told 39000 for three tooth and now after starting treatment and after doctor had trimmed my first tooth doctor told me my tooth is very brittle so they will have to place fiber stick so that my tooth will not fracture over time, all this seems to be good until doctor told me just to fix fiber stick they would charge me Rs. 2500 extra per tooth so its 2500x3=7500 additional charges. I just want to know if I am getting over charged for service provided by dentist or its fair charges.

Hello Cost is decided through material they are using and the brand dentist follows with the charge of assistant used and then fee is added, it also depends upon the dentist and place where you are getting treatment, dentist must have some expertise in the field. So these all aspects are considered and then charge is fixed. Thank you.

It's a normal thing to happen after scaling! but doesn't mean scaling shouldn't be done. The reason why it happens is during scaling the tooth is exposed to high level of vibration and ultrasonic sound, which disrupts pulp all response temporarily. Moreover when the calculus is removed from the tooth, it exposes the tooth surfaces of root portion naked, which are normally covered by gums but in person with calculus there would be calculus between the tooth surface and gums. Eventually when the gum heals and reattaches to the tooth surface, sensitivity/tingling goes away. From person to person the time varies between a week to 2 week with maximum time of a month. Meanwhile you can use any desensitization toothpaste to relieve the tingling.

Ca deficiency does not cause tooth senstivity. Its due to desolution of tooth layers and exposure of pulp. If its in early stage can be corrected by medicated paste if not then filling or rct has to be done. Get them treated accordingly. U may consult me as well

Naturally our teeth colour ranges from pearly white to pale yellow so everyone cannot hv white teeth. Get scalling n polishing done by dentist. If you r not happy with your teeth shade later, you can get bleaching done by dentist which'll lighten your teeth by 2-3 shades. Alternatively you can use a teeth whitening toothpaste such as snowdent after scalling. Whitening gels used daily along with customized dental trays provided by dentist r also available in the market. Avoid heavily coloured foods, tea n coffee, cool drinks, smoking n tobacco products as they stain teeth. Get your cavities filled by dentist as there r no home remedies to cure it.

Do visit your dentist for either fillings or rct (depending on the depth of decay). Dont postpone as you may end up with rootcanal. If you go early, will help just with the fillings. Composite (tooth coloured) fillings are better than the silver amalgam.

You have two options 1) you can go for bridge. In which two artificial ceramic teeth will be fixed with the help of adjacent tooth. 2) implant - if you can afford, it is the best option for you. In which implant screw will be placed into your bone and after few days new artificial tooth will b fixed over the implant.

I am 74 years old . An old RCT done is now become painful. Local dentist tried to remove the filling to do the RCT again but has failed to remove the old filling to required depth . Suggesting extraction . Can extraction be avoided

Dear, First of all very sorry to hear that you are in pain. About the extraction, I would say yes it can be avoided. You need to visit an Endodontist (RCT and Fillings specialist). He will definitely retriev the remaining filling material and perform a re RCT. It will not only save your tooth but also the money required to replace the tooth If you let me know your city, I can help you in finding a good Endodontist. Till the you can take painkillers, whichever suits you the best. Good Luck, God Bless and Take care.

I am 21 years old male, wearing braces for almost a year to fix reverse overjet of 1mm (i had my lower 2 bicuspids removed for the same). Recently my dentist applied a lower archwire 0.016" x 0.022" stainless steel. Is rectangular archwire better than the round archwire and how much more time can I expect to continue wearing braces?

During braces treatment you have to go through a sequence of archwire changes of which 0.016 x 0.022 stainless steel archwire is a part. Treatment is usually started with round niti archwires for alignment of your teeth which is followed by rectangular archwires for retraction and torque control. Hence both types of archwires are important. Treatment has to be continued till the primary objective of achieving proper overjet is completed.

You need to improve your oral hygiene habit. Only brushing teeth is not enough. Cleaning the tongue & cheeks is also important as food does stick on the tongue also. You can use your soft/medium tooth brush to clean your tongue. Use a good non alcohol mouth wash. The problem will be taken care off.

A porcelain veneer is a thin layer of life-like porcelain that is bonded to the surface of your natural tooth to enhance the shape, color, or size of the tooth.

It is custom made by a master technician in the dental laboratory with enamel-like qualities that defy detection.

Porcelain veneers can provide a dramatic smile improvement for your teeth gaps, mildly crooked, chipped or discolored teeth.

The advantage of porcelain is that the veneer is translucent, stain resistant, and mimics the light handling characteristics of your own dental enamel.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person.
