I have teeth problem for 2 days, its bleeding when I eat something, so what I m doing now?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

My mouth often smells bad, what should I do to prevent bad odour from mouth? Please advise.

Dentist, Bangalore
Plaque accumulation on the tooth surface is one the main reasons for halitosis(bad breath), deposits on the tongue can also elicit bad breath. It is advisable to brush twice a day , floss regularly and use a mouthwash. Also visit your dentist for an comprehensive oral treatment.

My son Evan is 3 and 8 month old. Night time he is suffering tooth pain from one month. I consulted one Doctor she told the vein death happened and infection is there the only possible way is root canal. Any other solution? We are not preferring root canal and plucking pls give a suggestion.

Dentist, Kolar
Your son is suffering from extensive tooth decay n requires rct or removal of that tooth not just for stability n space maintaince for permanent tooth but also to prevent spread of infection from dead nerve to the growing permanent tooth below it. Medicines cannot heal the extensive damage n he needs rct for saving that tooth n preventing other dental probs in future. Worry not n go ahead with the rct. Regards.

Due to an accident, My friend upper and lower gums had been cut. What is his situation? And Is there any treatment for it?

If cut is minor then it will heal. After that he can undergo cosmetic surgery if he wants. It can be treated easily. Don't worry. Let it heal first.

Past six months I have hypersalivation. Gerd and recurring mouth ulcers. Bruxism is always as I have misaligned teeth. Trauma in upper gums due to that. Using Rexidin mouth wash as adv. Past noon becoming worse. Halitosis and smelly saliva present. Undergone cholecystectomy. Bowel moments irregular. It flares up mouth ulcer. Please advice.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Hello Lybrate user. Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment.

My teeth are yellowish in colour. Is there any alternative other than bleaching of teeth to make them natural white!

BDS, PG Diploma In PG Advance Course Of Oral Implantology On New Generation Implants, PGDHHM
Dentist, Gurgaon
hello if you are using power form or ayurvedic to clean your teeth. your teeth become more yellowish with time because powder is more abrasive it will wear outermost layer of tooth enamel. and tooth become more yellowish due to exposure of inner layer dentine which is more yellowish. So avoid vigorous brushing. bleaching can be done. Which can improve your tooth shade

Why Milk Teeth Are Important

Why Milk Teeth Are Important

One of the landmarks of a child's development during the first year is the eruption of the little white pearls. The first tooth breaks into the mouth, somewhere between six months to one year of life. The entire set is in place in a baby's mouth by about 20 months of life. Though called deciduous teeth as they fall off after a certain period of time, the last of the milk teeth remains in the mouth up to 12 to 14 years of age.

Listed below are some points outlining the significance of milk teeth. It assumes importance, given that many a times, parents ignore injury and/or decay to these with the assumption that these are anyways temporary and a new set will be in place later.

  1. Eating: One of the primary functions of the milk teeth is to aid in chewing or mastication and digestion. Though not as strong as their permanent counterpart, they do play a great role in chewing and digesting the food. Children with malfunctioning teeth, especially molars, (missing or decayed) can result into poor nutrition.
  2. Speech development: The milk teeth play a critical role in the speech development, and speech abnormalities can be seen in people,  who do not have an effective set of milk teeth. It is common to see children in whom the front teeth in the milk set are not properly positioned, there could be speech problems like lisping.
  3. Aesthetics: Needless to say, a good set of white, pearly teeth adds to the beauty of a child's smile. This plays a major role in boosting the child's social behavior including acceptance and confidence levels.
  4. Space Maintenance: The milk teeth maintain and preserve the space required for their successors. In case where a lost tooth is not replaced, the space may not be sufficient for the permanent one to erupt, and this may even stop the permanent one from erupting. The result could be a blank space where the milk tooth is lost without the successor erupting into the mouth due to lack of space.

Given the above reasons, it is very important to take good care of the primary or milk or deciduous teeth. Some simple things to do would be:

  1. Enforce a regular oral hygiene routine including rinsing after each meal or snack, brushing twice a day, flossing and use of mouthwash
  2. A biannual visit to the dentist for oral prophylaxis regular cleaning followed by fluoride paste application if required; this will also reduce the onset of dental caries. Early caries can be identified during these visits   and treated before onset of pain.
  3. Chemical sealants may be used if the pits on the teeth are deep and can get decayed easily.

Visit your dentist regularly to know more and to maintain these pearls.

My father is aged 58 and is diabetic. He recently got a dental checkup n the doctor advised him for implants after looking at the x-ray. I am still doubtful if the procedure is beneficial in case of a diabetic patient. Please help.

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Jamshedpur
Dental implant can be placed in a patient with diabetes but with utmost care and precautions. The patient must be under medication and the glucose level should not exceed the upper limit. Also post implant placement care such as oral hygiene should be maintained.
