Hi lybrate-user tips for weight loss eat fresh vegetables daily. Avoid having sugar completely. Eat whole wheat bread instead of white bread; avoid everything made from white flour and make whole wheat bread, chapattis and brown rice a way of life. Do not skip a meal and eat three meals a day. Drink plenty of water to eliminate the toxins from the system. Limit your fat intake to 2-3 teaspoons a day. Increase the fiber intake as it provides a sense of fullness and also prevents hunger pangs. Take antioxidants for protecting the body against the toxins released during weight loss. Exercise catalyzes your efforts to lose weight and even regular walking for thirty minutes can give you the benefits of an aerobics exercise. To improve the metabolism, try increasing the duration, frequency, intensity of your daily workout. Remember that maintaining the ideal weight is a lifetime commitment and not a short-term affair. Firmly believe that the pleasure of being trim and healthy is far better than the pleasure of eating unwisely.

I have sever neck pain and my Ortho surgeon informs me that at my age of 77, except physio therapy nothing can be done. He informs me that I can try steroid. Is it advisable to take steroid at this age in my neck? Regards. KK Moorthy.

Hello, Dr. I am a 21 year old male. I have back pain from 7-8 months in my back bone. I have done a x-ray and the Dr. said it is normal. And the pain didn't reduce its coming back after 2 or 3 days again. I have tried to jogging and swimming but still no effects. I have try ashwagandha power if I continue eating that then pain will be less if I stop it the pain is back. From past 2 days the pain is very much. Backache in young age is commonly due to 1. Muscle strain resulting from improper posture. 2. Intervertebral disc bulge or prolapse. X ray cannot diagnose soft tissue or muscle causes of back pain. MRI of lumbo sacral spine is needed for diagnosis. Follow these to get relief. 1. Take anti inflammatory drugs like Diclofenac or Etoricoxub with muscle relaxant combination round the clock for 7 days 2.Take rest for 3 days but avoid total bed rest. 4. Do back strengthening and stretching exercises daily once pain is relieved. 7.Apply analgesic cream over back followed by warm fomentation. 6. Keep pillow behind your knees at bedtime. While sleeping on sides keep pillow between knees. 7. Do not bend and lift weights. To lift anything from floor bend your knees and pick up. 8. If back pain is accompanied with radiating leg pain or tingling, numbness or weakness, consult immediately. Many cases of back pain do not repond to conservative treatment and require intervention like sacro iliac joint injection or epidural steroid injections to relieve pain. Treatment decision can be done only after detailed evaluation. Consult an interventional pain specialist in your city. For further queries consult again.

In childhood, a patient with vitamin d deficiency can be treated with vitamin supplements. Now if he is adult, a whole limb scannogram (x-ray of the whole lower limb) can be taken and then surgery will be the only remedy available.

I suggest you follow the below for your condition: Rest. Ceasing activity for a few days allows injured tissue and even nerve roots to begin to heal, which in turn will help relieve lower back pain. However, more than a few days of rest can lead to a weakening of the muscles, and weak muscles have to struggle to adequately support the spine. Patients who do not regularly exercise to build strength and flexibility are more likely to experience recurrent or prolonged lower back pain. Heat and Ice Packs. Heat and/or cold therapy helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation. Often patients use ice, but some prefer heat. Both may be used alternately.

I am 74 years old lady. I am advised for knee surgery. I am in pain at my knee joints since last 4 months but still am able to walk erect with managable discomfort. Xray shows complete cartilage loss at knee joint. Do you suggest surgery now or should I wait for pain to become unbearable? I have been started on dolo-650 & calcim pouch. I am a patient of high bp and diabetes too. Do advice. Should I wait or just go ahead with surgery.

My aunty us 40years old she is suffering from sever back pain and leg pain what to do.
Most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. Leg pain can also be caused by blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation. To relieve mild pain: stay off your leg as much as possible apply an ice pack or bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day elevate your leg whenever you sit or lie down please go to a physiotherapist if: you have pain during or after walking you have swelling in both legs your pain gets worse your symptoms don't improve after a few days of home treatment you have painful varicose veins if you feel the pain is from muscle cramp then you need to drink a lot of water because poor fluid intake (dehydration) may predispose to cramps also low blood levels of either calcium or magnesium directly cause cramps. Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -stop normal physical activity for the first few days. This will help relieve your symptoms and reduce any swelling in the area of the pain. -apply heat or ice to the painful area. One good method is to use ice for the first 48 to 72 hours, and then use heat. Take pain relievers medicine. --while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain begins. -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. But, starting these exercises too soon after an injury can make your pain worse. -some physiotherapy treatment like ift current can give you some relief. -a full history of your problem should be taken and your movements assessed by a physiotherapist. Please consult a physiotherapist for the same.

I am 40 years female, I am getting pain regularly on my right hand from shoulder joint. Pain will be there in the night and in early morning for 1 hour after wake-up. Once I start my work, it will not be there. Again it starts in the night. This pain is there from 15-20 years. Previously I have to lift my right hand with the help of left hand in the morning. Hello, Follow advises given below for neck pain 1. Avoid using computers continuously, take rest for 5 min after working for half an hour 2. In pain free interval do neck exercise (kindly learn exercise by registered Trainer) 3. you can use thin pillow while sleeping so that normal posture of neck can be maintained 4.Maintain proper posture of body while watching TV/ studying Kindly go for cervical X ray AP and lateral and review with reports

Massage daily with warm til oil. Take one spoon ajwain, boil it in 1 cup water, filter and drink on an empty stomach in morning. You wont feel stiffed knees.

Knee pains have nothing to do with the oral sex you had 2 years back. Both are unrelated to each other. Knee pains can be due to inflammation of joints. Or infections or deficiencies of essential nutrients.

What is sciatica? Please give the suggestion about sciatica and which are the symptoms of it. And how to be healthy from it? And how to prevent it?

Sciatica is pain in leg due to impingement of sciatic nerve in the lower back. Some time pain reaches to severe over the entire nerve root of sciatic nerve which is your lower back that causes buttock, thigh, lower leg and even foot numbness, pain, and sometimes even weakness. After looking to your pain I am recommending you something: Precautions: 1. Avoid forward bending, if required then bend your knees first and then bend forward. 2. Avoid weight lifting. 3. Sit in chairs or car seats with proper back support. 4. Place pillow under your legs while sleeping or can opt sidelying position for sleep. 5. Get enough vit d from sun as vit d keep bones strong including spine and other bones. 6. Drink plenty of water to enhance the intervertebral disks. 7. Avoid prolonged standing. 8. Change your sitting position every 15 minutes so that it does not pain. If possible visit some neuro-physio who can give you several modalities like SWD, IFT, traction etc to cure the pain. Along with it we have a special program designed in case of sciatica that is Butler’s mobilisation and Mckenzie exercises which a physio gives with the proper technique to get cure from disease. I understand your pain so I am suggesting you the following treatment that you can take at home and can get some relief from pain and discomfort. Treatment: 1. Use of Cold packs- Sometimes piriformis muscle gets tight which cause impingement of sciatic nerve leading to tingling and numbness sensation down into the leg. So ice massage can be given over the area of piriformis muscle or the entire back for 15 min. Once done with cold therapy take rest for 2-3 min to relax the muscles. 2. Since the pain is radiating you can do some below mentioned exercises which will give you immediate relief from pain if done correctly. A) Lie on bed on your stomach gently push up with your arms, resting on your forearms. Hold for 5 secs. Now slightly stretch your back muscles and count till 10 and relax. You might feel a slight pain initially but do not worry. Repeat it 15 times. B) Now that pain must have gone. And now you can push up onto your hands fully. Slowly lower down back to floor. Perform this atleast 15 times. Again a slight pain will be there initially. Once you will complete this exercise program your pain will be relieved right away. If pain is severe while doing the exercise then stop doing the exercise and immediately consult some physio to take care further. Other exercises that can be done in sciatica pain are: 1. Straight leg raising 2. Knee to chest. 3. Hamstring stretch. 4. Back extensors stretches and strengthening. 5. Gluteal stretch. All the above can be done for 10-15 times with the hold (stretch) time of 5 -6 secs Make sure to perform the exercises correctly which will give you relief from your pain and strengthen your muscles.
