Two doctors told different %block in left ventricle need opinion for angioplasty.

MBBS, MD-General Medicine, DM - Cardiology
Cardiologist, Secunderabad
Two doctors told different %block in left ventricle need opinion for angioplasty.
Dear Amrita, it seems you mean blockage on leftside arteries of heart. Its true that percentage of block assesed by visual inspection will vary if you show to different doctors. Its not exact. But whether its signoficant blockage or not can be told. For example 80% or 90% both will require angioplasty. If the block is in 50 to 70% range, or what we call as intermediate lesion, then we do a test called FFR, which will determine if a block needs angioplasty or can be managed medically. I hope your doctors might have explained in details. Thank you.

What is the treatment for erectile dysfunction? I am not able to achieve hard erection. There is no problem in my penis.

MBBS, Diploma In Dermatology & Venerology & Leprosy (DDVL)
Dermatologist, Raigarh
What is the treatment for erectile dysfunction? I am not able to achieve hard erection. There is no problem in my penis.
Ed mostly medicines used to treat this problem aim at increasing blood flow towards penis but there may be some potentially serious side effects of these medicines. The patient may experience nasal congestion, dizziness, sleeplessness, headache, backache, and hot and cold flashes. Those who are already diagnosed with high or low bp, diabetes, or uncontrolled hepatitis should not take medicines recommended for erectile dysfunction. Other methods to treat the condition include erection inducing injections and testosterone implants but there are many side effects associated with these methods of treating the disease. These injections may cause painful acne, swollen gums, pain in penis, or breast enlargement. Mainly injections are known as intracavernous drugs and suppositories are called intraurethral medicines. Drugs prescribed for this purpose are usually taken a few minutes before intercourse and one is not allowed to use the drug more than once per day although the dosage depends on the type of the drug, if you.

Sir. Is ethanol is alcohol ?and in which wine presence of ethanol is most. May I have it. Now I'm 21-years.

Sir. Is ethanol is alcohol ?and in which wine presence of ethanol is most. May I have it. Now I'm 21-years.
Hi lybrate-user! Ethanol is ethyl alcohol. The ethanol or alcohol content is high in Vodka definitely. There are disadvantages and health risks in consuming alcohol in the long run such as addiction, liver damage, withdrawal symptoms, mood swings, lack of confidence and many more. Therefore it is advisable to avoid alcohol intake completely, but if you cannot resist taking alcohol it should be very rare and not often with less consumption in the form of wine. Think twice before you consume and strictly control your desire to a rare schedule and not to addiction.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. There are some benefits claimed regarding blood glucose control with black grapes. It is supposed to stimulate insulin secretion and reduces insulin resistance This is said to be due to presence of resveritrol in them. However, there are no authentic clinical studies to support these claims. Most fruits contain antioxidants and flavonoids, which offer multiple benefits. But grapes are generally very sweet, so it is always good if one consumes a very limited quantity. Thanks.

The Pyramid Diet Plan

MSc.PhD Nutrition & Diete, Jr. Research Fellowship for PhD, M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition - Dept. of Post Graduate Studies
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
The Pyramid Diet Plan

The pyramid diet was conceptualised in 1992 and it emphasises the best amount of servings to be consumed daily from the basic food groups (dairy, fruits and vegetables, grains, beans and legumes, meat, oils and fats).

The pyramid is divided into four levels. The very first level is comprised of grains, beans and legumes; the level above it is made up of fruits and vegetable; the third level from the top is composed of meat and dairy products and the very last one on top contains fats, sugars and oils.

The diet aims to divide the food groups in the above mentioned fashion to make you understand just how much to consume from each food group. Here is a breakdown of servings from each food group:

  • Grains- 5 to 7 servings
  • Fruits and vegetables- 2 servings of each
  • Milk and dairy- 3 servings of which 1/2 serving should be dairy products
  • Oils, sugar and fats- 6 teaspoons for oils and minimal servings for fats and sugars

This seems relatively easy to follow, but most people do not understand portion control. The amount or serving of food is called portion control and it is important if you want your diet to work. Here is a guideline that you can follow:

  1. When you are consuming one serving of grains in one sitting, you can choose to eat one cup of cereals or one slice of whole-wheat bread.
  2. When you are eating vegetable or fruits with your breakfast or lunch, choose one and a half cup of chopped vegetables, or one piece of orange, banana or apple.
  3. If you are drinking milk, then one cup of milk in one serving. And, if you are eating meat, choose one ounce of cooked fish or chicken.
  4. Lastly, do not go beyond one teaspoon of vegetable oil and try to keep your sugar intake to the minimum throughout the day.

The pyramid is an excellent guide to lose some weight. You just need some concentration and a ton of commitment to stick to the guide. Along with the diet, don't forget to get some exercise. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.
