Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There could be a lot of reasons for knee pain. It can be degeneration, inflammation, infection etc which may result in pain in the knee joint. Can you tell me your age, duration of symptoms, any previous history of injury etc? also are there any s/s of inflammation like swelling, skin redness or local warmth etc? can you kindly send me your latest knee x ray and blood tests which you may have done for evaluation so that I can see and advise accordingly. . Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

it is due to dependent oedema because of veinous insufficiency causing blood to accumulate in the leg resulting in swelling when somebody sits for a long time. It could also be due to diseases of heart, liver, kidney precaution a) don't sit for a prolonged period at one place, stand up and walk around in between b)wear compressed stockings c) .Keep the foot end elevated while sleeping d) Restrict salt intake e)Investigate to rule out diseases affecting Kidney/ hear/ Liver after consulting doctor

I am 20 years old. I have a disease "fibromyalgia" I am suffering from this for 4 years. I took many medicines in past. I was hospitalised for 5 days. But I could now get relief. I feel strong pain in my muscles when I wake up in morning. I can not walk very fast. Can not run. Can not move heavy things. I can not bend down to take any thing. I am very worried. You have not mentioned which medicines you have taken for fibromyalgia. I would suggest you to consult a pain specialist in your city. Don't worry, fibromyalgia may not be cured but can be controlled by appropriate medicines and lifestyle changes. Apart from medicines you will also get relief from therapies like: 1. Swimming. 2. Sitting or exercising in warm water (known as hydrotherapy or balneotherapy) 3. Daily exercises including yoga and aerobics under professional guidance
