Hi, thanks for writing in. Pain in right side of abdomen can be in upper or lower abdomen. If it subsided with medicines and re appeared after a day then it is important to get an ultrasound scan of abdomen done. If pain is in upper right abdomen then liver and gall bladder problems are to be thought of. Pain in right lower abdomen is likely due to bowel causes and appendicitis or mild infection is to be ruled out. Regards.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Your problem could be due to stress & anxiety - relieve stress by doing regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, playing a game for 30-40 min, do yoga, meditation & deep breathing for 10-15 min daily morning - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & vegetables as sometimes a deficiency causes such problems.

This happens because of erosion of superficial layer of the intestine, classified as peptic Ulcer disease. this is the beginning of the disorder and you can control it with the help of medicines, change in lifestyle and change is eating habits. when ever you will be hungry discomfort will appear and after eating gradually it will subside. Some causes are: 1. Prolonged periods of starvation, people who often skip meals like breakfast and have heavy meals afterwards. 2. States of hyper acidity 3. Prolonged stress or upset mood 4. having too much oily and spicy food 5. Lack of exercise with consumption of rich meals. A few ways of management are: 1. Avoid fried, spicy and fat rich food. 2. Start running/jogging /cycling etc on regular basis. 3. Do not eat to your full capacity, eat small meals at short intervals. 4. DO not have too much of sweet food items, bakery items. 5. Have lots of salads and fruits. 6. Avoid sour things in eating. 7. Learn to relax, world is not going to end so do not panic, with patience and perseverance you can control any situation, just believe in yourself and maintain your confidence. 8. See a doctor and start the treatment. 9. Always keep basic antacids like gelusil/ digeine with you when you start developing pain sensation have them. 10. Dear lybrate-user. For social anxiety disorder, hand shaking is enough. There may not be any other symptoms like nervousness or fear. Social anxiety disorder treatment consists of cognitive behavioral therapy, life style changes, relaxation therapy and meditation. Once you learn how to manage your anxiety yourself with the help of the above treatment methods, you will be cured. The process could take some time according to the depth of the problem and the circumstances at which the patient lives. Take care.

My uncle is a smoker and he's now facing breathing problems and chest pain. Is their a way to help him quit smoking.
Hi. This is a really very good approach. Appreciate it. Quit smoking is of utmost importance for your uncle. But at the same time, breathing difficulty and chest pain in a patient with chronic smoking habit also requires cardiologist (hear doctor) consultation. So kindly consider doing ecg, 2d echo and other tests as your town cardiologist feels necessary. Nicotine chewing gums are good to help quit smoking. Take care.

I am having sneezing problem during waking up and after taking bath. I sneezes for about 8 to 10 times. How to cure this?

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
Possibly you have allergic rhinitis. Check with ent. If it is allergic rhinitis without any associated problem, may use (1) fluticasone nasal spray - 1 puff in each nostril twice daily for at least 3 months. Then you need to tail off. (2) cetirizine 10 mg - 1 tab daily at 8 pm or after coming back home in the evening for about 10 days then 5 mg daily for another 10 days then stop.

Dear lybrate user, your son might be having some health issues. There can be many reasons for not having solid food. If he is having any difficulty in digesting the food, then he will not be hungry also. Please do not force him to eat. Kindly take him to a doctor. If there is no physical problem, then you might have to look into his emotional needs. Talk to him about himself, school, his friends, his games, hobbies etc. If he is not happy about something, he will be able to share that with you, which ultimately will lift up his mood and make him more active and energetic and then he might start having food on his own. Pursuade him to play physical (not computer games) games of his choice.

Hi lybrate-user It's summer time so the body gets drained off essential salts through sweat. It can also happen when you're stressed. You should keep yourself hydrated by have plenty of fluids and having fresh fruits. If problem persists, get yourself examined by the physician.

Make your thought of skipping your breakfast take a backseat as some fiber taken in the morning time always means lesser hunger in the late afternoon, when you are most likely to binge on sugars due to tiredness. Morning breakfast always augments your metabolism for the whole day. Don?t-miss-breakfast people are comparatively thinner than those who just rush towards the door early morning without pampering their tummy.

Here are some key points about the average penis size. While 85% of women were satisfied with the size and proportion of their partner's penis men were less sure of themselves.1  45% of men believe they have a small penis.  It has been concluded that flaccid lengths range around 7 to 10 centimetres (2.8-3.9 inches).  Flaccid circumferences range around 9 to 10 centimetres (3.5 to 3.9 inches).  Erect lengths range around 12 to 16 centimetres (4.7 to 6.3 inches).  Erect circumference is around 12 centimetres (4.7 inches).  A higher BMI and older age appear to be weakly associated with a shorter erect penis length.  Male concern about whether penile size lives up to the desires of females seems to be Largely misplaced.. One study suggested that while the majority of women, some 85%, were satisfied with the size and proportion of their partner's penis, men were less sure of themselves.1 Almost half of men in the study (45%) believed they had a small penis - yet the researchers reported that small penis size was actually rare. The average penis size to be as follows: Average length for an erect penis is 14.2 cm (5.6 inches) Average circumference of an erect penis is 12.2 cm (4.8 inches). Men who want surgery to increase the length of their penis should try non-invasive methods like penile traction devices or extenders first, and in some cases, even try therapy to make them feel more confident about their bodies. There is no proven scientific method to increase size, girth or grip of penis although many false claims have been propagated by advertisements. The size is determined by an individual’s genetic build and length actually has no relation with sexual pleasure or satisfaction as many wrongly believe. Be happy with your individual qualities nature has bestowed on you.

Hives - 6 Causes Behind It!

Hives - 6 Causes Behind It!

Hives, also known as ‘urticuria’ is a skin disorder that is characterized by formation of white or red welts on the surface of the skin. The sizes of the welts may vary and can last for up to six weeks or more. The disease is not life threatening but the general discomfort associated with it can interfere with your daily activities. The symptoms of hives are treated by taking anti-histamines and anti-itching medications.

Let’s take a look at the symptoms:
1. Development of red or white welts, especially on torso, arms and the face
2. The welts may cause severe itching
3. Painful swelling on various parts of the body such as cheeks, lips and the insides of the throat
4. You may experience tightness in the chest and feel dizzy

What might be the causes?
Hives occur when certain cells are triggered into releasing histamine (an organic nitrogenous compound). The various factors that trigger this condition are:
1. Insects bites or parasite bites
2. Continuous scratching at the same spot
3. Various pain medications
4. Prolonged exposure to sunlight
5. High levels of stress
6. Excessive consumption of alcohol

This disease can lead to severe complications which have been listed below:
1. Severe allergic reaction: Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction that causes the bronchial tubes to narrow down thus, obstructing normal breathing. It is a condition that may, in certain cases, lead to death as well. Hence, you need prompt medical attention if you suffer from this complication.

2. Breathing complications: Swelling on the inner parts of the throat may obstruct normal breathing and cause you to pass out. It can also increase the risk of certain immune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and celiac disease (a disorder caused by eating gluten rich foods in excess).

Treatment
The treatment for this disorder includes taking anti-histamine medications that help in blocking histamine (organic compounds which help to regulate physiological functioning) in the body. You may also be administered anti-inflammation medications to reduce inflammation. Wear loose clothing and stop scratching away at the affected regions of the body to make sure you do not aggravate the condition. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.
