Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. Diet and exercise are important parts of managing PCOS Avoid foods such as bread, pasta, rice, and cereal, most snack foods (such as chips, cookies, and candy), sugary drinks such as soda and juice, as insulin level in your blood goes up after you eat these foods, PCOS often have higher levels of insulin (a hormone) in their blood, and many have trouble maintaining a healthy weight. You can take: Fresh fruits or frozen/canned fruit without added sugar, or unsweetened applesauce Non–starchy fresh vegetables or frozen/canned vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, and carrots Whole grains such as whole wheat pasta, brown rice, oats, and whole wheat bread High fiber cereals such as Kashi, shredded wheat, (Look for cereals that have at least 5 grams of fiber per serving or sprinkle ½ cup of bran cereal or unprocessed bran on a low–fiber cereal to increase the fiber) Water or seltzer, flavored with fruit if desired, unsweetened iced tea High fiber baked goods made from whole wheat flour and oats Crackers and snacks with fiber such as Triscuits, Wasa, or popcorn. Also quit coffee. Start doing some workout daily, some yoga, gym, dancing, swimming etc. You will feel energetic and your cycle will also be regularized with this.

Mr. lybrate-user , Thanks for the query. At your age with given height, your ideal body weight should be 60.7 kgs. So I do not see the need to add any weight. With 65 kgs your BMI is 23.3 kgs/M2, which good. Thanks.

lybrate-userji, If blood glucose is at 300 mg (fasting or PP not mentioned) means it is too high. First that has to be controlled. One has to look at overall diet, weight and height before any suggestion can be made. However, a small piece of beef may not bad. Most important is total dietary intake and weight control. Thanks.

Role of Homeopathy in Treating Type II Diabetes

MD - Homeopathy, Doctor of Homeopathic Medicine (H.M.D., BHMS

Role of Homeopathy in Treating Type II Diabetes

Type II Diabetes is also known as Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (NIDDM) or Adult-onset Diabetes. Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome characterized by increased level of sugar (glucose) in the blood due to deficiency or inactivity of hormone 'Insulin' that is absolutely necessary to monitor glucose metabolism of body. This is a metabolic disorder that is primarily characterized by insulin resistance, relative insulin deficiency and consecutively hyperglycemia. Diabetes is prevalent worldwide and if not attended properly, it may lead to serious complications.

Causes of Type II Diabetes:

Diabetes basically occurs due to defective insulin secretion combined with defective responsiveness of the body to the insulin (also called Insulin resistance). Due to both these factors, hyperglycemia starts occurring in the body. It is strongly associated with obesity and with increasing age. A strong inheritance pattern has been noted in cases of type 2 diabetes. sedentary lifestyle, pregnancy, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, etc pose as risk factors for developing Diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes can begin at any age though it is not very common in childhood. It usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which the body does not use insulin properly. At first, the pancreas keeps up with the added demand by producing more insulin but later it loses the ability to secrete enough insulin in response to meals. This ultimately results in Hyperglycemia (high levels of glucose in circulation).

Homeopathic Treatment for Type II Diabetes:

Diabetes is a constitutional disorder as it is an offshoot of constitutional defects (genetic factors, altered immunity) having an impact on the entire constitution of an individual. Hence it calls for an in-depth constitutional approach for its management.

Homeopathy is based on the principle that disease is a total affliction of body. Moreover, homeopathy recognizes importance of the underlying causes such as genetic and inherited factors as the root of any ailment of the body. Homeopathic medicines prescribed on such criteria plays a crucial role in management of many deep-rooted, chronic, difficult diseases; one amongst them being Diabetes.

When we talk about diseases like diabetes, we talk in terms of management rather than cure. Homeopathic treatment along with intake of hypoglycemic drugs and/or insulin can prevent the progress and the complications associated with this condition. Moreover timely administered homeopathic medicines help in maintaining the levels of exogenous insulin and hypoglycemic drugs at minimum possible dosage and in preventing the further progress of the disease. However, it may be noted that there is no substitute to insulin in homeopathy. The role of a healthy diet and exercise cannot be underestimated along with all the above treatment measures. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath.

Type 2 diabetes has a strong hereditary basis and your child will have a risk of developing it. But that doesn't mean your child WILL become diabetic for sure. It can be prevented to a certain extent by very early adoption of helthy diet and life style changes.
