My daughter suffered by epilepsy. Only two times one year before. Dr. prescribed to take, 500 mg levipil twice per day. morning 500 mg eve 500mg. Since one year seizure had not come. She is studying CA. CAN WE STOP TO TAKE MEDICINE. GANESH.

M.Sc - Psychology, MBA (Healthcare)
General Physician, Kangra
Sir you should not stop medicine. She should take the medicine ideally for one more year then the medicine will be tapered off and stopped. If she stops now she has a great chance of having recurrence of seizure then she will hv to start again that too for another two yrs. Its good dat she is seizure free for one years and try not to miss a single dose for one more year.

Here are some tips to prevent a migraine attack: 1. Identify and avoid migraine triggers. You can keep track of your headache patterns and identify headache triggers by using a headache diary. 2. Recall what was eaten prior to an attack to help you identify chemical triggers. 3. Manage stress to prevent or reduce the severity of the migraine attacks. 4. Follow a regular daily routine and get adequate rest. 5. Exercise (in moderation) regularly.

Now Say-Go Migraine (Migraine -Ayurvedic View) Migraine headache is usually associated with one sided throbbing headache, with nausea (tendency of vomiting), vomiting and sensitivity to light. In migraine there is excessive stimulation (constriction and sudden dilatation) of brain and blood vessels. CAUSES-: -Improper metabolism, Suppression of natural urges, anger, jealousy, grief, poor elimination, intake of dry, pungent and salty food, intake of polluted food, mental and physical stress, viewing of TV for long periods, reading with insufficient light, sleeplessness etc. -Origin of migraine headache; Due to the causative factors, Pitta Dosha obstructs the flow of Vata dosha in brain, causing throbbing pain. MANAGEMENT-: Sneha nasya – Instillation of medicated oils can be carried to the nostrils. Shadbindu tailam or Anu tailam yield significant benefits in this condition. Apply a paste of freshly ground clay or freshly ground sandalwood to the forehead, let dry, rub off by hand and wash. Sugar powder 16 parts, Vamshalochana 8 parts, Pippali (long pepper) 4 parts, Ela (Cardamom) 2 parts, Cinnamon – 1 part. Make fine powder and mix it, keep in tight moisture free container. Take half teaspoon thrice daily with honey. Mix ¼ teaspoon of clove powder with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon oil. Apply this paste on the affected area for 20-30 minutes. Add chamomile powder to 1 cup of boiling water. Transfer the liquid to a cup. Drink when hot. It gives fast relief from migraine. Grind 10-12 grains of black pepper and 10-12 grains of rice with water to make it a paste. Apply this paste on affected area of the head for 15-20 minutes. Take ½ glass of carrot juice. Add ½ glass of spinach juice. Mix well. Drink this juice to cure migraine. Practicing meditation is highly recommended. DIET-: -Apple, mango, papaya, cheeku, guava. -Salad 1hr before lunch, 1hr before dinner. -Buttermilk, boiled rice sauted with cinnamon, cumin seeds and garlic or asafetida are good in the daytime. -Have warm and easily digestible foods, boiled and steamed vegetables, soups, vegetable juices, porridge, brown rice and whole-wheat flour. -Avoid yogurt, especially at night. -Avoid working for long hours continuously; take short breaks. In case of epilepsy since you are on meds for 3 years, if the seizures are completely controlled and eeg is normal, a trial of gradual taper of medicines can be given. But always taper medicines after consulting your neurologist. And there is always a chance of recurrence so that risk has to be borne in mind.

Dementia - 5 Ways Physiotherapy Helps Manage It!

Dementia is a general classification of a brain disease that causes a long haul and frequently steady abatement in the capacity to think and recall that is sufficiently incredible to influence a man's everyday  functioning. Other normal manifestations incorporate passionate issues, issues with dialect, and a lessening in motivation. An individual's awareness is not influenced. The most common example of dementia is the Alzheimer's disease.

Physiotherapy for Dementia:
A patient with dementia can benefit from physiotherapy regardless of the possibility that the patient can't perceive their own family. Physiotherapy, notwithstanding, can be of good advantage to the individual who has dementia and also their family and parental figures at different stages. The principle explanation behind this is that recovery administrations can help the dementia patient to be as utilitarian as would be prudent for whatever length of time that is conceivable. Here are 5 ways physiotherapy benefits an Alzheimer's patient:

  1. Physiotherapy can keep up the Alzheimer's patient's freedom and mobility as much as one could expect reasonably. A physiotherapist can outline a home activity program and work intimately with relatives to administer to the Alzheimer's patient.
  2. Physiotherapists, as independent experts, embrace much detailed, separately custom-made appraisals of the disorders, action confinements and restrictions imposed upon individuals with dementia.
  3. The caretakers of individuals with dementia regularly show weakness when contrasted with their same aged companions. Physiotherapy helps with diminishing the weight of consideration by instructing caregivers to provide encouragement and upliftment to individuals with dementia.
  4. Patients with dementia are always at a risk of falling down and hurting themselves. Poor balance accounts for the danger of falls. This can be worked upon and improved by physiotherapy driven exercises. Exercise can have a huge and positive effect on behavioral and mental indications of dementia, enhancing psychological capacity and mindset, which can decrease the doses of strong medicines. Special exercise routines are assigned to the patients which help improve their body balance while walking.
  5. Physiotherapy has crucial influence in advancing and keeping up portability of individuals with dementia. It assumes a basic part in the end of life consideration by overseeing situations, seating and complicated muscle contracture. Individuals with dementia regularly experience issues in communicating pain. Pain influences cognizance, inspiration and reaction to any intervention. Physiotherapists are specialists in recognizing and treating pain in dementia patients and give training to care home staff and caregivers of the patients.

Physiotherapy is very important for dementia patients. Regular physiotherapy sessions are beneficial for patients for improvement in condition. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a physiotherapist.

You need continuous sittings with a psychologist to go to the root cause of your" depression" first, get it diagnosed if you are suffering from depression or depression like symptoms. If depression is confirmed on psychological testing done by a psychologist you will require medicines from a psychiatrist, if only depression like symptoms are found on psychological testing, then you will require psychotherapy from a psychologist. Psychologist is an expert in psychological testing and psychotherapy while psychiatrist is an expert for mental illness treatment with medicines only. They have no training in psychotherapy.

Periodic "virechana" (purgation or cleansing the stomach) with appropriate Pittahara medicines (Example: Avipathi Churnam) will be effective in controlling SheetaPittam (Urticaria). De-worming once in six months also may be required. Note the allergic food or other material and try to avoid them consuming or from contact.

BHMS

There can be many causes of a headache such as physiological changes in the head, constriction of blood vessels, abnormal neuron activity, genetic causes, excessive smoking, excessive drinking, lack of water in the body, oversleeping, overuse of pain killers, eye strain, neck strain, and others. Ginger ginger can help reduce inflammation of the blood vessels in the head, thus providing relief from a headache. Mix equal parts of ginger juice and lemon juice. Consume it once or twice a day. Another option is to apply a paste of one teaspoon of dry ginger powder, also called sonth, and two tablespoons of water on the forehead for a few minutes. You can also boil ginger powder or raw ginger in water, and inhale the vapor. Chew one or two pieces of crystallized ginger candy.

Dear Lybrate User, *Hold an ice-pack to your forehead or temples to reduce your pain. *Lie down in a quiet, dark room. *You could try keeping a migraine diary. Writing down information about your headaches and what you were doing when they happened can help you find out what triggers your headaches. Then you can avoid those triggers. *Take the juice of Tinospora cordifolia (giloy), in doses of 10 ml with honey. *Apply a paste made of black pepper and rice with the juice of bhringaraaja to the forehead. Alternately, you can apply the paste of sandalwood also. *Drop some ghee, medicated with saffron flowers (kesar) into each nostril and inhale deeply.

Now some days he is very violent because of the above reason Waiting for your feedback.

Der Dileep, Sorry to hear your father, Maths teacher, has dementia. The behavioral problems are not tolerated by the family members. If you start attending the family members' group, you will understand why your father gets angry and leaves home. If the family understands his present level of memory and accepts it as such, behaviour of your father will change. If you people point out accusingly or treat him as though he does it purposely, it will worsen. Donepezil is helpful in reducing behavioural problems. None of the antipsychotics are approved in dementia because it can cause falls and medical problems become worse. You have to decide which is worse and use Quetiapine whenever necessary.
