Which is the best tooth paste to make my teeth white and clean. I don't drink tea and other beverage.
for external staining, go for scaling and polishing of teeth. this will make you teeth clean n will give it a shine. but if you want further whiteness, go for bleaching.

My teeth was turned into yellow color, how can I get white teeth. Please tell me some advise.
Colour of the teeth change to yellow because of deposits getting laid over surface of teeth. consult a dentist and go for scaling and polishing done for your teeth. . maintain this by brushing twice a day.

Do whitening toothpastes whiten teeth more than regular toothpastes, and how we whiten are teeth regularly?

BDS
Dentist, Kolar
Do whitening toothpastes whiten teeth more than regular toothpastes, and how we whiten are teeth regularly?
Regular toothpastes remove plaque n makes your teeth clean whereas whitening toothpastes contain certain tooth whitening agents which whiten your teeth slowly over a period of 2 wks to 2 months. These whitening agents may cause sensitivity in few individuals n wen unbearable it is advised to discontinue. Whitening toothpastes donot give pearly white teeth for everybody but only lightens one's teeth by 1-2 shade only.

Food or drinks acidic in nature should be consumed as little as possible. Consuming them in a large quantity can cause cavities as they soften the tooth material that further leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel.

All About Dry Mouth

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
All About Dry Mouth

Dry mouth or Xerostomia is characterized by the drying of the mouth as a result of reduced saliva secretion. Secretion of an adequate amount of saliva helps in chewing & swallowing of food which in turn creates a healthy oral cavity. A recent study showed that women have more chances of getting a dry mouth as compared to men. If not diagnosed on time, dry mouth might lead to mouth infections, severe damage to the teeth enamel and gingivitis.

The symptoms of dry mouth include, but are not limited to:

  • Craving for water in regular intervals.
  • Swollen tongue.
  • Dry eye.
  • Significant trouble while swallowing, speaking or chewing along with disturbing bad breath.
  • Severe headaches and formations of ulcers in the mouth

Causes:
1. This condition might occur as a side effect of:
a. Other serious conditions such as GERD, Alzheimer's disease, HIV/AIDS etc.
b. Side effects of medical treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy; this might result in significant damage to the salivary glands.
c. Side effects of drugs prescribed for diarrhea, nausea, asthma, obesity, depression, Parkinson's disease etc.

2. Abnormal consumption of marijuana, crystal methamphetamine and tobacco might cause dry mouth.

3. It can occur during pregnancy and breastfeeding, dry mouth can be a common occurrence because of acute dehydration.

4. Sleep apnea, snoring and breathing through your mouth instead of the nose on a daily basis might induce dry mouth.

5. Severe damage to the nerves might result in dry mouth conditions.

Treatment:

  1. A healthy amount of water consumption, about 3 liters every day, will help to keep the mouth wet.
  2. Application of toothpaste and mouthwashes containing fluoride twice a day will help to keep the mouth moist.
  3. You should change the dosages of medicines after consulting your doctor if Xerostomia is primarily occurring as a result of side effect of the drugs.
  4. Prescribed dosage of medicines such as "Pilocarpine" might induce increased saliva secretion.
  5. Try breathing through the nose instead of your mouth to avoid Xerostomia.

Clove oil will not be helpful for cavities. First of all it has to be cleared that whether black lining is due to decay or stains. If its due to decay then it may need filling and if its due to staining then scaling (professional cleaning) polishing and stain removing will suffice.

5 Reasons to go for Dental Implant

MDS - Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
5 Reasons to go for Dental Implant

Implants should be fitted within one year of losing a tooth since the jaw bone surrounding a tooth starts to shrink in size and gradually becomes so small that it fails to support an implant.

Dental implants are generally identified as substitutes for tooth roots. Besides, replacing damaged or decayed teeth, implants also provide a strong foundation for both permanent as well as removable replacement teeth.

  1. To protect your jawbone: Not filling up empty spaces in your mouth can severely affect your jawbone. It begins to lose its firmness and strength as a consequence of no longer being able to support a natural tooth. Dental implants help in stimulating bone growth while preventing bone loss.
  2. To eat properly: Eating becomes comparatively easier with implants rather than sliding dentures, because they function like your own teeth.
  3. They do not move or shift but remain in place: Dental implants resemble your own natural teeth as they fuse with the bone permanently. Moreover, being fixed in one place due to the fusion, you can expect the replacement teeth to not move or shift.
  4. To keep your face from sagging: Missing teeth can cause your face to sink and sag, giving you a very sad and aged appearance. Dental implants provide you with the chance to retain the natural shape of not only your face but your smile too.
  5. To gain healthy and natural looking teeth without affecting surrounding teeth: Nearby, teeth are not altered to support the implant, so your natural teeth remain intact. They help in preventing healthy teeth nearby from shifting, which is very common if there's an empty space next to a healthy tooth for a long period of time. The procedure sees a replacement tooth being positioned in place of the lost tooth so that it not only looks but feels like a natural tooth.

I have mouth ulcers since last year what should I do?

BDS
Dentist,
I have mouth ulcers since last year what should I do?
There are a lot of reasons for mouth ulcers. Is there any stomach distress, constipation etc, firstly rule this possibility and get this problem treated. Ulcers will subside by themselves. The other reason is stress. It has a direct relation to mouth ulcers. Any changes in diet pattern. Hot or spicy foods get your oral hygiene checked, any broken fillings, deposits on teeth and underneath gums, loose illfiting dentures. Then there are other systemic problems like diabetes mellitus, vitmain b complex deficiencies etc. So you need to consult the dentist immediately because one year is a long time for recurrence of ulcers. For symptomatic relief you can apply turmeric powder (haldi) on your ulcers.

Dear lybrate user, good to know that you've quit the habit. Add a pich of salt to a glass of lukewarm water and rinse your mouth three times daily. Brush gently twice daily with a soft toothbrush to maintain good oral hygiene. Get yourself monitored regularly. Avoid eating heavily fried, extremely hot and spicy food. Consume lots of fluids, water and fruits. Establish a healthy routine by taking out time to exercise and try to stay stress-free. Too much workload is harmful.

Dentist,
Hello, Thank you for your query. Usually, bad smell is due to heavy deposit of tartar; or chronic gum infection (known as gingivitis); or due to excessive gum bleeding. Please let us know about your general health as well. Stomach acidity can also be a major cause for bad smell in the mouth. Please get a check up once to know the exact cause and manage the problem. The hollowness you can see is the extraction socket.(in my opinion) after tooth extration it may take 30-45 days for new bone formation. Please continue with the medication and do regular followups for further treatment. You can replace the extracted tooth after complete healing with ceramic bridge or implant as suggested by your dentist.
