Hello, if symptoms are sneezing, running nose, blocked nose 1. Take proper rest/ lot of fluids 2. Take proper home made diet. 3. Steam inhalation carefully by steam inhaler twice a day for 2-3 days continuous cold may be because of many reasons like: 1. Any ENT problem like DNS, polyp, sinusitis 2. Low immunity 3. Allergic condition like Allergic Rhinitis so you need to consult ENT doctor for proper examination and further management.

Sinus generally do not cause neck pain and the headaches caused by it are frontal. Giddiness could be due to bppv (benign paroxysmal postural vertigo) which occurs when the neck moves or tilts in a particular direction and position. If the side on which this occurs can be known then the treatment becomes a little simple. Your neck pain may be due to cervical spondylosis. Avoid using pillows. Do not keep your neck bent on forward for long. Do extension exercises for neck. The special exercise for treating giddiness can be asked as a private question on lybrate.

Hi. I understand your concerns. You will need to get a chest x ray done. It could be bronchitis or lung infection. If x ray is normal no need to worry about lung infection. Get a pulmonary function test done based on which treatment can be done. You will benefit from inhalers. For gerd take antacids and take small frequent meals. Also avoid spicy food. Walk for 15-20 mins everyday. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

I am 50 years of age. On 26th aug I had taken x ray of chest and some blood test found pulmonary t. B. As per doctor I had started with medicine AKT4. Once again I had checked my blood test of sputum as negative but my white cell of 8900 is reduced to 6400. Now I increased my weight approximately 8kg in 20 days is there any progress in my health please guide me.

DNB(Respiratory Diseases), MBBS
Pulmonologist, Jabalpur
As per your history, if your diagnosis of tb was only based upon only chest x ray, it can be called inadequate proof of disease, because chest x ray is not a specific test to detect tb, if sputum test for tb was also done at start of treatment and it was positive for bacteria, then you had a confirm diagnosis. Any ways you have gained good weight after starting medicine, but if your symptoms also have started improving, like decrease in cough & sputum quantity, no fever now, then all these are positive points, anyways white cell count of 8900 as well as 6400 are both in normal range and should not be a cause of worry.

When to go for a Tonsil Surgery?

MS - ENT, DNB (ENT)
ENT Specialist, Delhi
When to go for a Tonsil Surgery?

Tonsillitis is an affliction that plagues a fair share of people. Located at the back of your throat, tonsils are essentially two small glands, which contain white blood cells to defend your body against infection. However, on account of germ attacks, sometimes the tonsils get infected and this results in the swelling of the tonsil glands, which in turn causes sore throat and aligned maladies.

Tonsillitis may be cured through surgical procedures. However, an isolated case of the inflammation of the tonsils need not warrant a surgery. Tonsillectomy or the surgical method of curing tonsillitis is only recommended for extreme cases of tonsillitis. Only the frequent sufferers of tonsillitis take recourse to tonsillectomy for a durable and effective solution. Surgeries are only done on those who have had at least seven bouts of strep throats within a span of a year.

Tonsillectomies essentially involve surgical removal of the tonsils either using a scalpel or burning the tissues in the tonsils with the use of ultrasound vibrations. Usually performed under anesthesia, it is a fairly painless and a non-hazardous procedure. Tonsillectomies generally last for about an hour. However, the recovery period sometimes entail a few physical discomforts. Sore throat, difficulty in swallowing, pain in the jaws and ears are common symptoms of post tonsillectomy conditions. While there are palliative medicines available in the markets, adequate rest and proper diet speeds up the recovery.

Tonsillectomy generally leaves no side effects and the success rate of this surgery is quite heartening. Tonsillectomy has also known to cure several other associated health problems in the likes of breathing troubles, sleep apnea, bleeding of the tonsil glands or cancerous developments in the tonsil glands. That aside, tonsillectomy is only performed on acute cases of tonsillitis and often regarded as the lender of last resort when medicines stop according any relief to the patient.
