Hi i'm 28 years old and I would like to know about thyroid. please give your suggestion
Now a days hypothyroidism where thyroid function is not adequate (lack of thyroxine hormone), has become a fairly common condition in young ladies. It leads to a variety of problems like increase in weight, lethargy, frequent tired feeling, swelling of legs, feet and face and neck, hair loss, intolerance to cold etc. All these can be well controlled by replacing thyroxine regularly. Females have to particularly be careful in pregnancy as deficiency affects the fetus.

I have been taking since past 30 months. Now my HB1AC level is 9.10 (Avg 214 Blood Sugar). What could be the reason? I am on proper diet and exercise too.

My mother is 62 years old & suffering from diabetes & blood pressure. She mainly suffers due to unbalance of sugar level. Can you suggest what precautions (i. E food chart.) shroud we take to control sugar level?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for more than 2-3 hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Fruits should be had as a mid meal. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

Masturbate Masturbation is a common activity. It’s a natural and safe way to explore your body, feel pleasure, and release built-up sexual tension. It occurs among people of all backgrounds, genders, and races. Despite the myths, there are actually no physically harmful side effects of masturbation. However, excessive masturbation can negatively impact your relationships and everyday life. Other than that, masturbation is a fun, normal, and healthy act. Keep reading to learn more about the side effects and potential health benefits of masturbation. Side effects of masturbation Masturbation doesn’t have any harmful side effects, though some people may feel guilty about masturbating or have issues with chronic masturbation. Masturbation and guilt Some people may feel guilty about masturbating because of cultural, spiritual, or religious beliefs. Masturbation is neither wrong nor immoral, but you may still hear messages that self-pleasure is “dirty” and “shameful.” If you feel guilty over masturbating, speak with someone you trust about why you feel this way and how you can move past that guilt. There are also therapists that specialize in sexual health and may be a good resource. Addiction to masturbation Some people can and do become addicted to masturbating. You may be spending too much time masturbating if masturbation causes you to: skip your chores or daily activities miss work or school cancel plans with friends or family miss important social events Being addicted to masturbation can have a negative impact on your relationships and other parts of your life. Masturbating too much may interrupt your work or studies, which can lower productivity. It may also hurt your relationships and friendships because you don’t spend as much time with your loved ones as you used to, or don’t pay attention to their needs. If you’re worried you may be addicted to masturbation, speak with your doctor or a counselor about ways to cut down on masturbating. Talk therapy can help you manage your addiction. You could also cut down by replacing masturbation with other activities. Next time you have an urge to masturbate, try: going for a run writing in a journal spending time with friends going for a walk Does masturbation cause a decrease in sexual sensitivity? For women who have sexual dysfunction, enhanced stimulation, including masturbation, can help increase sexual desire and sensitivity. In fact, two 2009 studies found that vibrator use among women and men has been linked to an increase in desire, arousal, and overall sexual function. Women also reported an increase in lubrication, while men reported better erectile function, according to the studies. Masturbation can affect sensitivity during sex for men because of their technique. Research has shown that too tight of a grip on a penis during masturbation can decrease sensation. Sexual health experts recommend changing your technique during masturbation to restore sensitivity levels during sex. Benefits of masturbation Masturbation is a healthy sexual activity that has many benefits for your physical and mental health. There are limited studies on the benefits of masturbation, but studies on sexual intercourse and anecdotal reports suggest that sexual stimulation, including stimulation through masturbation, may help you: relieve built-up stress sleep better boost your mood relax feel pleasure relieve cramps release sexual tension have better sex better understand your wants and needs Couples may also mutually masturbate to explore different desires, as well as avoid pregnancy. Self-pleasuring also helps you prevent sexually transmitted infection. Masturbation is a healthy, natural, and safe way to practice self-love and improve your health. Masturbating may have many benefits for your mind and body. Despite the possibility of addiction, there are no harmful side effects. You should feel free to enjoy self-pleasure without guilt or shame. Speak with a therapist or someone you trust about any negative feelings you have.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your thyroid test results are absolutely normal. TSH range is 0.3 to 5.5 mU/L. In some labs it is shown as 0.4 to 4.5 mu/L. Therefore 1.47 mU/L is within the normal range. There is no reason to worry. Thanks.

Lybrate-userji, for a patient with diabetes, it ideal to maintain blood sugar - fasting around 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c% <7. To achieve this following steps need to be taken: 1) take prescribed medications regularly without missinga singel dose, 2) take balanced but restricted diet based on ideal body weight, extent of daily physical activity and sugar levels. 3) to exercise daily for about 1 hour, so as to maintain normal weight, increase glucose utilisation and reduce insulin resistance. 4) to consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads, also permitted fruits (100 g a day). 5) refrain from alcohol and smoking, 6) avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries and sweetened aerated drinks (colas), highly processed foods, bakery items and high fat milk products. Thaks for the question.

Respected doctors kind please advise me ki agar thyroid ho to calcium supplement lene chaheye ki nhi? Kya calcium supplement lene se thyroid badta hai? Kyu ki mera thyroid 4 month phele 9.3 ml tha or main thyroix25 tablets le rhe hu but fir bhi mera thyroid ab bad ki 13. 2ho gya hai. Is ke ilawa main ashokarist or ashwaghandharist bhi daily do time lete hu. Kindly advise me ki in me se kise dwai ka koi role to nhi thyroid ko increase karne me.

There are 2 issues here. Either your Thyroid tablet dose is inadequate or if you are taking your Thyroid & calcium tablets together then it will reduce the effect of your Thyroid tablet. Make sure that your calcium is taken in the afternoon or evening so that it does not interfere with your Thyroid tablet absorption. This is also the case with iron. So make sure that all these tablets are taken at different times to avoid any interference in absorption.

If sweet fruit or extra sugar does not increase the blood sugar then why sugar is given to a hypoglycemic patient to raise immediately his/her blood glucose.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Please let me know where did you get this information that sweet fruits or etra sugar does not increase blood glucose? In a normal person with presence of adequate insulin, extra glucose that comes in to blood is immediately removed from the blood, moved to muscles or various cells like tissue cells or liver. But is a diabetic person lack of insulin leads to abnnormal increase in blood glucose due to lack of insulin. When drugs are given to control high blood glucose, some drugs (sulphonylureas), insulin etc can rapidly reduce the blood glucose leading to hypoglycemia. In such a situation either glucose or sweets or sugar are given to rapidly incrase blood glucose. Low blood glucose (<50 mg/100 ml) is harmful to various tssues and brain. Thanks.

I am 27 years & faceing the high uric acid problem. Pls advice the treatment of plantar fasciitis.

MD - Pathology
General Physician, Amritsar
For high uric acid take tablet zyloric 100 daily and after a week taper off painkillers and continue zyloric till your uric acid comes in normal range. Avoid non vegetarian food totally. Limit intake of milk and milk products, take small quantities of pulses. Avoid beans. Plantar fascitis takes its own time to heal. Give as much rest to foot as possible. Take painkillers regularly for few days and then only when needed. It can take few months to heal. If there is some problem in knee get it treated as it puts more pressure on foot.
