My tooth are properly aligned. Should I go for tooth clip? How far mouth/tooth cleaning is good?

My tooth are properly aligned. Should I go for tooth clip? How far mouth/tooth cleaning is good?
No need for braces then. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

I am 34 years old. In Last two months I am experiencing a lot of discomfort in my throat, such as Cold, Cough, Infection, Mouth Ulcer, Slight Swelling below my chin, Slight hitching in the mouth. I have been smoking for the past 15 years. No weight loss ever. I don't think there is any Tumor. The slight swelling below my chin goes off when I apply eucalyptus oil. I am worried about me being a victim of cancer. And very scared to go to doctor. Please Advise.

Most probably you have a cavity in that tooth. Just consult a dentist. U might have to go for root canal treatment.

Hi shashwat As u mentioned its a small hole and hasn't gone deep enough. Then rush to your dentist and get it filled. It might not require root canal at this point. Any way your dentist wud be the best person to make a decision. Good luck and God bless Dr supreeth s m

Extraction Is It the End or Beginning of a Dental Problems?

Extraction Is It the End or Beginning of a Dental Problems?

Removal of teeth is gradually not the first option for a lot of dental issues. However, a large number of dental infections and other causes end in extraction. The front teeth, because of their visibility, are more likely to be replaced. The back teeth often go un-replaced, though they play a higher role in terms of food digestion and function. In many patients, reasons for impaired bite and crooked tooth are traced back to failure to replace a removed tooth. (Learn more to maintain healthy teeth)

Let us look at the some of the issues as a result of not replacing a missing tooth:

  1. Reduced chewing/digestive efficiency: The back teeth play a significant role in chewing the food and contributing to the initial stage of digestion. The salivary enzymes play a significant role in digestion when the food is chewed and removal of back teeth tends to make people swallow food faster than if good amount of chewing were to happen. Studies show that loss of each posterior tooth (molars especially) reduces tooth efficiency by 10%.
  2. Malocclusion: A malocclusion happens due to the empty space created, into which 3 teeth are trying to move. The tooth before and after the empty space tend to slowly tilt towards the empty space in between. Also, the opposing upper or lower tooth supra erupts into this space.  Each tooth plays a critical role in maintaining the adjacent and opposing tooth in place, which is lost when a tooth is not replaced after removal.
  3. Bone loss: The tooth also is essential for maintaining healthy bone, and if not replaced, it can lead to accelerated loss of alveolar bone.  Good bone support is very essential for construction of dentures, especially in old age, when complete dentures which are almost always removable need to be done. This is true especially in the lower teeth, where denture retention is a big challenge.
  4. Extra pressure on other teeth: Not replacing a tooth puts additional pressure on the remaining teeth, leading to accelerated bone loss and wearing off of the enamel.
  5. Esthetics: There will be a sinking in of the face when back teeth are not replaced, leading to a puckering.

So, the next time, tooth loss is inevitable, ensure you plan how to replace it in the earliest possible time period. The more it is delayed, the more difficult it is to replace it and the more expensive it will turn out for the patient. Fixed dentures or removable dentures can be the options, depending on age, food habits, finances, etc. Implants also could be another option, which is the new-age solution for replacing teeth.  A detailed discussion with your dentist, ahead of removal will help you plan better. Tips to Maintain Healthy Teeth

If chewing food and retaining a sparkling smile is not enough for you, avoiding toothaches and a visit to the dentist could be reason enough to maintain healthy teeth. Ignoring your tooth health can lead to many problems. Answer yourself the following question. Would you like your teeth inside your mouth or in a glass tumbler beside your bed at nighttime?

If you opted for the former, then going through the following tips and advices will go a long way in helping you sustain healthy teeth. They are:

  1. Brush and floss twice a day: Brushing and flossing twice a day, on a regular basis will help you maintain healthy teeth and gums in the long run. The ideal time to brush your teeth is 20 minutes after a meal. Opting for a toothbrush with a small head and soft bristles gives you better access to even the deeper portions of your mouth, thus providing comprehensive cleansing to your teeth. Moreover, softer bristles are generous on your gums as well.
  2. Nutrition: Whatever you eat, either protects you or makes you more susceptible to diseases and disorders. This stands true for your oral health as well. As such, choosing the right foods early in your life is of vital importance. Foods such as cold drinks, cakes, candies and other such sugary substances facilitate the growth of germ and bacteria in your mouth, resulting in plaque and cavities. Choosing foods that are low in starch and sugar will reduce the development of germs and help eradicate cavities or plaque in the long run.
  3. Smoking: Even the pack of smoke that you buy endorses smoking is injurious to your general health. Smoking causes reduced flow of blood to the mouth, which resultantly leads to increased chances of periodontal disease and mouth cancer. Smoking, moreover causes a decline in the ability of the bones and tissues to revascularize (self-heal). All else apart, just stop smoking.
  4. Chewing gums: Chewing gums are highly beneficial especially after a meal. They not only increase the flow of saliva in your mouth, but also improves the flow of blood to your brain, thus enhancing your alertness by close to 10%. In addition, chewing gums help neutralize the acid in your mouth, thus helping you cleanse your mouth.

I have a lot of cavity and needs a lot of scaling. Is there any possibility to clean the teeth thoroughly without losing the enamel and fill the cavities. Please note that I am 59 years old.

One of the side effect of your medicine is dry mouth, hence you are having high carious risk. The latest treatment trend in dentistry is minimal invasive techniques, so only the area that is having cavity is treated.

Limit acidic drinks like soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices. Food acids soften tooth material and dissolve the minerals in tooth enamel, causing holes (cavities or caries). In severe cases, teeth may be ?eaten? right down to the gum.
