What You Need To Know About Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures?

What You Need To Know About Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures?

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are non-invasive procedures that make the skin look smoother and unblemished. These include dental cosmetic procedures as well, which are carried out to make your teeth look whiter and properly aligned.

Since surgical procedures are complicated with certain risk factors involved, they may not always be the preferred choice. This is when non-surgical procedures come in. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures can reduce wrinkles, alter the appearance of the lips, remove blemishes, moles and thread veins and even smooth the surface of the skin.

What are the types of non-surgical treatments you can opt for?

There are several types of non-surgical treatments. The commonly-used ones include:

Muscle paralysis by injecting botox into the muscles

Botox or botunilaum toxin type a is treatment used for removing skin blemishes. It is injected into a particular part of the face to reduce fine lines and wrinkles that usually appear at middle age. It is very popular as people consider it as an effective and relatively safer procedure compared to other invasive procedures.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are injections that are used to fill in wrinkles and creases on the skin surface. They also play a part in increasing the volume and size of the lips.

Chemical peels

Chemical peels are specifically designed liquids that remove dead skin cells on the surface of the skin and accelerate the growth of new cells. They improve the general appearance of the skin, reduce uneven pigmentation and eliminate acne. There are three types of chemical peels - superficial, medium and deep.

Non-surgical laser treatments

These forms of treatment are usually used to remove unwanted hair on the face and body, and to remove tattoos from the skin surface. In laser hair removal treatment, a laser beam is used to heat the small cavities in the skin from which the hair grow out. This process damages the follicles and reduces the growth of hair.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a procedure in which fine crystals and vacuum are used to remove dead cells from the skin surface. It successfully eliminates wrinkles and skin blemishes.

What are the risks?

Non-surgical procedures are less harmful than surgical procedures. However, over correction can be difficult to treat, as well as asymmetrical placement of fillers and allergic reactions to the procedures. You should discuss the allergies and other potential complications of the procedure with the doctor. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Cosmetic/Plastic Surgeon.

I have black spots as well as pimples on my face. I used screen shine cream for 5 months but did not see any changes. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath,
I have black spots as well as pimples on my face. I used screen shine cream for 5 months but did not see any changes....
Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. In order to stop the formation of pimples the aforesaid four causes should be terminated. Now the bitter truth is neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you whenever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifolium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.

I am suffering from chronic hair loss. Can you suggest an effective and fast remedy?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Hyderabad
I am suffering from chronic hair loss. Can you suggest an effective and fast remedy?
Taking care of your hair *take nutritious healthy food *have regular vigorous physical exercise so that blood circulation reaches hair follicles and nourishes the hair. *avoid mental stress and smoking and such unhealthy habits. * have adequate rest and timely sleep. You may have limitations because of your profession, but stick to it as far as possible. *use warm or cold water for bath and not very hot water. * hard water is harmful. Boiling will reduce hardness. * when the hair is wet, it is weaker and don't rub too much with towel. * use wide toothed comb so that there is no pulling pressure on the hair. *your usual hair dye has large doses of ammonia, which changes hair texture, dries out the scalp and almost leads to hair fall. Hair growth is dependent on several factors. We have good treatment in homoeopathy without causing adverse effects. These medicines are given internally and they improve the system to promote healthy growth of hair and prevent hair fall. If you are interested, please let me know- *what is your age, height, weight, profession and whether it is a touring job? *since how long you have this problem? * do you have dry skin? *do you have dandruff? * have you history of any serious illness. * do you have anaemia? can be checked from report of blood test. * is it hereditary in your family? I can prescribe medicines which will be available in homoeopathic shops.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease characterised by well defined erythematous scaly plaques with silvery white or candle wax type of scaling. Chronic plaque psoriasis is the most common type. It can affect sites like scalp, arms, and legs, (specifically elbows and knees), palms and soles etc. Other types of psoriasis are: Erythrodermic psoriasis, Pustular psoriasis (generalised and localised), Nail psoriasis and Scalp psoriasis. There are various precipitating factors for psoriasis: Infections (sore throat, dental infections etc), drugs (b-blockers used for hypertension), pregnancy, winters (psoriasis becomes worse in winters), stress, alcohol intake and cigarette smoking, topical irritants like coal tar, salicylic acid and withdrawal of oral/ topical steroids etc. The disease has a chronic course and there topical creams/ointments/gels/lotions etc as well as oral and injectable medicines which can treat psoriasis but there is no permanent cure for psoriasis. For limited disease involving < 20% of BSA, Topical treatment alone suffices: -Moisturisers specially those which contain hygroscopic (attract water from the atmosphere and lock it into the skin) and keratoloytic agents like Ammonium lactate (Amylac cream), Urea, Lactic acid etc are especially useful in dry scaly conditions like psoriasis. -For the patches you could use a steroid+salicylic acid ointment, twice daily (clobetasol+3% OR 6% salicylic acid in an ointment base e.g propysalic NF Ointment) over and above the moisturiser for 4 weeks. -Other treatment modalities which can be used for localized plaque psoriasis are: Vitamin D analogues like calcipotriol, calcipotriene alone or in combination with steroid. For extensive psoriasis (involving more than 20% of BSA) oral as well as topical treatment is combined together: -Once weekly oral methotrexate is another option in case of plaque psoriasis but it should always be taken under the supervision of a dermatologist since it can rarely cause serious side effects like bone marrow suppression. -Oral cyclosporine is given for extensive psoriasis involving more than 20% of the body surface area. It is rapidly effective but it requires monitoring of kidney functions and BP. Other commonly used oral treatment modalities are: -Oral Psoralens e.g 8-methoxypsoralen and UV A phototherapy (PUVA) -Narrow-Band phototharapy (NB-UVB) -Biologics response modifiers (Etanercept, Infliximab, Adalimumab etc) To summarize, in limited psoriasis only topical agents are used, whereas if the disease involves >20% body surface area, it is better to combine both topical and oral therapies. I would suggest that you see a dermatologist and have a fair discussion regarding the most appropriate treatment modalities for you.
