Try to reduce weight first. Now all the reports of both of you are normal means there is good chance of success, if you try active treatment for fertility.

I was taking combination of fertomid and ovigyn dsr tablet on my doc prescription and now I got positive home pregnancy test after a missed period. Can I rely on test or it may be false ?

MBBS, DGO (cal)
General Physician,
If the strip was of quality there is no reason to disbelieve. Of course there are chances of false positive test, but it is rare. You do another test with your morning sample of urine to confirm. Get the strip from a good shop those maintaining medicine quality. If positive report to your doctor. Congratulation.

Hi. I'm 26 years old and having 8 months old baby. I was weighed 60 kg in my pre-pregnancy and now I'm 84 after my pregnancy. I just want to reduce my weight and be healthy. What should I do to reduce my weight and what diet should I take? Kindly suggest. Thanks.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Patience is the key. It took nine months for your tummy muscles to stretch to accommodate a full-term baby. So it makes sense that it can take that long, or longer, to tighten up again. The speed and degree of this tightening up depends on a few factors, including: • What shape and size you were before you conceived your baby. • How much weight you gained during pregnancy. • How active you are. • Something you can't do anything about: your genes. You may find it easier to shed the weight if: • You gained less than 13.6kg and exercised regularly during pregnancy. • You breastfeed. • This is your first baby. NOTE you shouldn't aim to be back to your pre-pregnancy weight until about six months after your baby's birth. How can you safely lose weight to help your belly look better? Breastfeeding may help, especially in the early months after giving birth. If you breastfeed, you'll burn extra calories to make milk – about 500 calories a day. You may lose your pregnancy weight more quickly than mums who bottle-feed their babies. Breastfeeding also triggers contractions that help to shrink your womb, making it a workout for your whole body. However, if you eat more than you burn off, you will put on weight, even if you breastfeed. It's fine to lose weight while you are breastfeeding. Your body is very efficient at making milk, and losing up to 1kg a week shouldn't affect the amount of milk you make. However, if you have a newborn to look after, you'll need plenty of energy. Trying to lose weight too soon after giving birth may delay your recovery and make you feel even more tired. It’s especially important not to attempt a very low-calorie diet. So try to wait until you've had your postnatal check before start trying to lose weight. Eating healthily, combined with gentle exercise, will help you to get in shape. The following general guidelines will help you to achieve and maintain a healthy weight: • Make time for breakfast. • Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. • Include plenty of fibre-rich foods, such as oats, beans, lentils, grains and seeds, in your diet. • Include a starchy food such as bread, rice, pasta (preferably wholegrain varieties for added fibre) or potatoes in each meal. • Go easy on high-fat and high-sugar foods, such as biscuits and cakes. • Watch your portions at mealtimes and the number and type of snacks you eat between meals. There's no right answer about how many calories a day you should have. The amount you need to eat depends on your weight and how active you are. What else can you do to help regain your pre-pregnancy belly? Exercise can help to tone stomach muscles and burn calories. If you exercised right up until the end of your pregnancy, you can do some light exercise and stretching from the start. If you stopped exercising during your pregnancy or are a newcomer to fitness, it is better to start exercising more slowly. Fitness aside, all new mums can begin pelvic floor exercises and work on gently toning up lower tummy muscles as soon as they feel ready. This may help you to get back to your pre-pregnancy shape and help to flatten your tummy. When you feel up to it, take your baby out for walks in his pushchair. Getting out and about will help to lift your mood and exercise your body gently. You may find there are pushchair workouts with other new mums in your local park.

How To Get Pregnant Even If A Woman Has PCOS?

MD - General Medicine

How To Get Pregnant Even If A Woman Has PCOS?

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a typical female endocrine issue and is one of the main reasons behind infertility. Regardless of the possibility that you have PCOS, you can get pregnant naturally after receiving proper treatment.

Females who have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome have a tendency to become obese and they stop ovulating (anovulation) as well. This can result in irregular or zero menstrual cycles. To determine the illness, a pelvic ultrasound is done that uncovers ovaries containing numerous small cysts.

No need to worry! Even if you're suffering from PCOS, a lot of things can be done to raise the possibility of conceiving naturally. Here are a few tips that can help you to pregnant easily.

Tip #1 - Get In Shape! Lose Excess Weight

If you're obese, then losing some weight should be first and foremost step. One research demonstrated that losing as meagre as 5% of your body weight can enhance your odds of conceiving without any need of medical supervision.

Tip #2 - Eat Cinnamon Regularly

Cinnamon spice has the power to enhance your insulin resistance. A recent study demonstrated that females with PCOS who ate a 1 gram of cinnamon a day fundamentally enhanced their insulin resistance power within two months. Different researches have demonstrated that regular utilization of cinnamon assisted in slow digestion, which would direct the increase of glucose levels after eating.

Tip #3 - Eat Some Millet

Many people have simply no idea what millet is. It is a whole grain that is wheat and gluten free and found in a store or marketplace near your home. It has often been termed as the 'fertility wonder grain'. Since it enables to adjust glucose and insulin levels, it can assist to keep your hormones in balance. However, you need to be extra careful before consuming it, since millet is known to contain a compound that meddles with the production of thyroid hormones. Therefore, if you've a thyroid condition, then you'll need to exchange millet with different other grains.

Tip #4 - Stay Away From Too Much Carbohydrate

Avoid carbohydrates such as white bread and other processed food items made of white flour and sugar since they trigger an insulin reaction. Rather, include complex carbohydrates, for example, whole grain items, beans or green vegetables in your diet. Consult renowned gynecologists and get a proper food chart of food items that you've to eat to stay healthy.

Tip #5 - Exercise Regularly

Increase your physical activity to at least 4 to 6 hours every week spread over various days. Studies have demonstrated that this level of activity alongside sensible eating can enhance the quality of hormone in females with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. This is credited to a reduction in the amount of fat around the stomach, which may enhance insulin sensitivity and thus re-establish natural menstrual cycle.

Good and Bad Cholestrol

MD - Internal Medicine, CCMD(Diabetology), PG Course in Diabetology
Diabetologist, Dehradun
Good and Bad Cholestrol
What are the “good” and “bad” cholesterols?
Because cholesterol can’t dissolve in the blood, which is made mostly of water, it is
transported by protein packages called lipoproteins. Low-density lipoproteincholesterol
(LDL-C) is “bad” because it carries cholesterol to artery walls and forms deposits,
also known as plaque. This can lead to a condition called atherosclerosis or “hardening” of
the artery walls. With time, plaque builds up and blood flow slows down or stops.
High-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) is “good” because it carries cholesterol from
artery walls back to the liver and can reduce or prevent plaque build up.

Complications and Treatment of Endometriosis

MS, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Noida
Complications and Treatment of Endometriosis

An often painful condition usually involving the bowel, ovaries or the tissue lining the pelvis, endometriosis is characterized by the abnormal growth of the endometrial tissue beyond the premises of your uterus or your pelvic region. The endometrium, in fact, functions perfectly normal with each menstrual cycle, but because of it being displaced, it cannot exit the body and consequently gets trapped.

Besides causing severe pain and distress, endometriosis can also adversely affect fertility. When the ovaries get involved, certain cysts known as endometriomas tend to develop which often result in the formation of scar tissues and adhesions.

Complications associated with it

  1. Infertility: Impaired fertility is the most common kind of complication arising from endometriosis, with approximately one-third to one-half women having problems with pregnancy. During endometriosis, the fallopian tube gets obstructed, thereby restricting the union of the egg and sperm.
  2. Ovarian cancer: Women with endometriosis are more likely to suffer from ovarian cancer. Moreover, they are also more susceptible to acquiring endometriosis related adenocarcinoma, which is another variant of cancer, but a comparatively rarer phenomenon.

How best to treat it?

Depending upon how severe your symptoms are, endometriosis can be treated via the use of medications or through the advent of surgery.

  1. Pain medications: Certain medications, including pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs, are particularly useful in providing relief to painful menstrual cramps.
  2. Hormone therapy: Undergoing hormonal therapy can help ward off or reduce the pain of endometriosis, but it should be kept in mind that it is only a temporary fix and that symptoms might reoccur. Hormonal therapies include:
    • Hormonal contraceptives
    • Medroxyprogesterone
    • Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH) agonists and antagonists
    • Danazol
  3. Conservative surgery: This can either be done through laparoscopy or, in more extensive cases, through traditional abdominal surgery.
  4. Assisted reproductive techniques: These include in-vitro fertilization, and are sometimes more preferable over conservative surgery.
  5. Hysterectomy: This is usually done in more severe cases of endometriosis whereby ovaries are also removed with uterus and cervix
