Hi lybrate user. I think there is something wrong in your report. The fasting sugar should be less and pp should be more. After all the sugar content of your blood is bound to go up after you have taken your meal. I suggest you check up with your lab again and clear this confusion or go in for a test again. Fasting sugar below 100 is ok. 100-126 is considered pre-diabetic and over 126 is considered a case of diabetes. Since there seems to be some confusion in your report please clear it and then you can consult through private questions.

Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. With 500 mg blood glucose you have very severe diabetes. This needs immediate treatment. First thing we have to check whether you have T1 or T2 diabetes. Because if it is T1 then only Insulin is the treatment. So please get a C- Peptide test done to see if there is any insulin secretion present. Whatever it is you need to start on Insulin injections urgently for achieving early good glucose control. Further, the treatment is for lifetime. There is NO CURE. It can only be controlled with proper treatment.

How to keep diabetes controlled, diabetes fluctuates always, sometime high, sometimes low. Please help.
For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

I am a Diabetic so instead of sugar consuming Jaggery is alternative or I have to be away from Jagerry also.
Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I am sure you are aware that sugar and jaggery both are made from the sugar cane juice. If so then what can be the difference? Only advantage of jaggery is that it has some more vitamins and a few anti-oxidants. But both get converted to glucose, Both are only sucrose, so they get rapidly converted to glucose. Thanks.
