Hi lybrate-user, Gradual weight gain is always advisable and an increase in 500 kcal per day can result in a 0.5 kg per week increase in one’s body weight. For healthy weight gain, you need to add more muscle rather than fat to your frame and that can only come from wholesome foods. Keep the following basic principles in mind if you wish to gain weight in a healthy way: •Increase your appetite by eating more to gain weight. But do it step-by-step and not by stuffing yourself too much at one go. Add one extra chapatti or more rice than you normally consume, or you even start with fruits by eating an extra one every day. •Carbs are needed to gain weight but include healthier options like banana, potato, mango, whole grains, rice, etc. Instead of sugar-rich foods, chocolates, and other junk foods. •In order to increase your muscle mass, it is essential to do weight training 4-5 times a week for an hour. Consume protein-rich foods after you workout to increase muscle mass and eat good fats like nuts and seeds in your diet. •DIET CHART: •Breakfast: 10 almonds, Banana milkshake, Cheese grilled sandwich in multigrain bread or stuffed parantha. •Midmorning: Fruit, Glass of sweet lassi. •Lunch: 3 chapatis, Dal, Mixed vegetable containing potatoes, Paneer or Non-veg (Chicken, Curd, Fruit. •Glass of Milk with bournvita or Whey protein and vegetable sandwich •Dinner: Same as lunch. Add a dessert like fruit custard or Kheer. •

I am a 42-year old male with height 5'5" and suffering from Ankylosing Spondylitis (HLA-B27 positive) for the last 19 years. I'm soon going to have a total/partial hip replacement but before that I'm buying a new car for myself. Please recommend the type of car (hatchback/sedan/SUV) which will be suited for someone with replaced hips. Is the height of the seat from the ground level important for a replaced hipped person and will it be safe to drive after the replacement? Thank you.

Hello lybrate-user, Whatever car you buy, it is more important to know the trunk, hip knee and ankle angulation to sit after hip replacement. Avoid driving a car immediately after surgery. Your trunk should be straight with lumbar lordosis maintained properly with a back support. Hip should be in 90 degree, knee in 110 degrees and foot resting well over the break and accelerator. Do not hang the ankle joint if your height is small.

I am girl of 21 years of age weighing 68 kg having 5. 5 ft height. I perform one hour exercise daily in the park. 30 min walking, 10 min stretching and 10 min skipping & balance time as rest. I came back my home at 8 am. After studying for 2 hours & taking a bath I take a nap of 2 hours. Please provide me the suggestion regarding the nap I take at 10: 30 to 12: 30. Is taking nap ruins my all efforts made in the morning. Please guide me regarding the same. Thanks!
