Dental Treatment Under Sedation/General Anaesthesia

Dental Treatment Under Sedation/general Anaesthesia I

Providing the highest quality dental treatment for all patients is the motto of dental practitioners. In order to achieve the same, complete chair-side cooperation is an important requirement. There are various factors and situations where the same is not achieved either in part or full like:

a) very young age of child patient

b) physical or mental dis-ability of some kind preventing the same

c) phobic patients or patients with past bad, painful and traumatic experience

d) extensive treatments requiring high number of patients affecting the cooperation.

In these cases the dental treatment under sedation/general anaesthesia is a very effective, safe and valuable treatment alternative.

These treatment are general done by specially trained dental surgeons mainly pediatric dentists who with their team of doctors essentially anesthetists, pediatricians and pediatric dentists undertake such treatments in a safe and sound manner.

I can feel a lump on my left cheek when I move my tongue around my cheeks its not painful and not too big can it be a tumor of oral cancer cause I used to smoke and drink earlier and I am having a body pain in left side.

Take consultation with maxillofacial surgeon as it needs proper examination before making any diagnosis.

Keeping your teeth and gums healthy requires good nutrition and regular brushing and flossing.

Brush your teeth twice a day—in the morning and before bed—and floss once a day. This removes plaque, which can lead to damaged teeth, gums, and surrounding bone.
Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride, which helps prevent tooth decay and cavities. Ask your dentist if you need a mouthwash that contains fluoride or one with ingredients that fight plaque.
Avoid foods that contain a lot of sugar. Sugar helps plaque grow.
Avoid using tobacco products, which can cause gum disease and oral cancer. Exposure to tobacco smoke (secondhand smoke) also may cause gum disease as well as other health problems.
Practice tongue cleaning. You can use a tongue cleaner or a soft-bristle toothbrush, stroking in a back-to-front direction. Tongue cleaning is particularly important for people who smoke or whose tongues are coated or deeply grooved.
Schedule regular trips to the dentist based on how often you need exams and cleaning.

There is a lot of pain in my wisdom tooth, I thought wisdom tooth is coming now so I am getting pain but I am not sure. It is from last one week and becoz of that my ears are also paining, last 2 days I took pain killer but it will effect for only sometime.

Wisdom tooth erupts anytime after 21 years of age. Please take an Xray of the tooth to determine exact position of wisdom tooth. *Sometimes when erupting there can be food accumulation between tooth and gums giving rise to pain. *if the position of tooth is also crooked then pain can arise. Advise extraction please visit dentist for treatment.

denture
If you wear dentures, the general rule is: brush, soak, brush. Always clean your dentures over a bowl of water or a folded towel in case you drop them. Brush your dentures before soaking, to help remove any food debris. Using an effervescent (fizzy) denture cleaner will help remove stubborn stains and leave your denture feeling fresher.

Brush, floss n use mouthwash twice daily. Massage your gums with your finger tips after brushing. Keep your tongue clean. Rinse your mouth well after each meal. Hello Ms. Lybrate-user hope you doing well. Yellowish discoloration of the tooth can be extrinsic or intrinsic. Intrinsic means that since your childhood you have the same color of the teeth that is inside the tooth. Extrinsic discoloration is because of factors like excessive tea, coffee, smoking, some medications. Extrinsic stains go away by getting professional cleaning done and using some whitening toothpaste. In intrinsic stains you have options like bleaching, veneers, laminates.

I am unable to take breathe comfortably. Sometimes I am taking my breathe with my mouth. What is remedy for this?

Whenever there is mucous discharge from the nostrils I will suggest you to take one tablet of cetrizine at night and we have to rule out deviated nasal septum after clinical examination.

For the past 3 days I have had eye pain at the back of both my eyes. It also hurts when I move my eyes. It is in both my eyes but it appears to alternate. I also feel as though my eye muscles are very stiff and sore and limits my eye movement. I also feel as though my vision is zoning out, blurring my vision and making it difficult to focus. I feel as though I am constantly fighting to keep my eyes focused. Furthermore I have a heavy pressure feeling behind and around my eyes and in my head. It also feels around my nose. I have heavy brow ache and also tension type headache. In general my face, eyes and head feels tense and sore. I am also getting intermittent ear ache, my temples are tender, my cheek also feels slightly numb and I feel like I have toothache slightly. I do not have any nose congestion or cold symptoms so just wondering what this can be?

We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

For healthier teeth, flossing daily in a sawing motion is highly recommended. Take the floss to the point where the teeth meet the gums.

Well, best treatment option is to go for laminates/ veneers/ crowns in grossly destructed teeth. A famous tooth creme such as tooth mousse and clinpro have been beneficial too.
