I am 40 years old. I am suffering from urine retention during nights. What should I do? Even it is little painful.

Diploma in Anesthesia, MBBS

I am 40 years old. I am suffering from urine retention during nights. What should I do? Even it is little painful.
By urine retention you mean you are not able to pass urine? If its so take plenty of water during the day time atleast 2.5 to 3 litres in a day. Take timely meals and avoid excessive spices etc. Any operations for delivary, which can change the tone of the muscles in the area. If the pain is present since the time of urine retention, it could be due to urinary infection. Any associated fever or passing redcoloured urine then you need a course of medicines after getting the urine cultre test done. If need more guidance comeback with details for further guidance. Good luck.

You are having egfr of 39-40, which means ckd stage 3. You should take 40-45 gms of proteins daily. So no need to avoid any veg protein like pulses. Among Non veg, avoid mutton and chicken. You can take fish and eggs occationaly, like 10-15 days.

Whether aged persons should restrict the water intake to the minimum required level to reduce the load to the kidney?

Felllow in Endourology, MCh Urology, MRCS, MS, MBBS
Urologist,
Whether aged persons should restrict the water intake to the minimum required level to reduce the load to the kidney?
Water intake should be decided by your thirst level. Brain knows how much water it needs. There are mechanisms to detect how much is the water level (osmolality) in the blood and indicate you by means of thirst. Unless you are taking some drugs that can impair this ability, any kidney disease, heart problems, or brain disorders, you can take a normal 2 to 3 liters of fluid per day. You can reduce fluid intake in evening and night to prevent unnecessary sleep disturbance.
