It could be a febrile seizure. Where you have to be watchful for fever as it has a tendency to recur. However no treatment is needed for first seizure but detail evaluation should be done.

6 to 7 attacks are very common per year. As they have less immunity. Avoid antibiotics in simple common cold. Not to worry about common cold and cough.

Can I give junior horlics to my baby, who is one year old? What kinds of food he should have in this age?

DM - Pediatric Neurology, MD-Pediatrics
Neurologist, Ludhiana
These are of no benefit other than changing the taste. Give whatever you eat in a form which he can eat easily. Vegetables, pulses, rice, egg etc. Soups good. Juices do not benefit much. Reduce milk.

How can we increase the weight of 7 days old baby boy at the time of delivery he is 2.5 kg but due to some fever and jaundice his weight reduced to 2 kg then how will we increase his weight.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Wait, breast-feeding will regain and start putting on weight. If treating pediatrician is confident, you need not worry. All babies lose weight initially, though your child seems to have lost more weight than expected. Follow your pediatrician, don't worry.

Hello, your baby is too young to give more medicines but you can give him Homoeopathic medicines as these are safe and work without side effects. Give him Kindigest (Schwabe), 4 pills thrice daily, this will improve his digestion.Revert after 7 days. For the wired sound you are talking , needs to examine physically, so consult a good paediatrician in chennai.

My daughter is 14 years but her completion is dark. How to make her skin fair with home remedies. She uses Vaseline Aloe Vera lotion.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Everyone has a favourite face cream or treatment, but beautiful skin starts with nourishment from within. Older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones and a steady supply of micronutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Eat the correct balance of foods and you'll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, supple and blemish-free. Eat your five-a-day Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are caused by smoking, pollution and sunlight and can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Betacarotene, found in pumpkin, carrots and sweet potatoes, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are potent antioxidants, important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone. Vitamin C Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant. It is needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin and helps blemishes heal properly. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. They all help to produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin. Cut out crash diets Repeatedly losing and regaining weight can take its toll on your skin, causing sagging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Crash diets are often short in essential vitamins too. Over long periods of time this type of dieting will reflect on your skin. Stock up on selenium Selenium is a powerful antioxidant. It works alongside other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C and is essential for the immune system. Studies suggest that a selenium-rich diet can help to protect against skin cancer, sun damage and age spots. One way to boost your intake is to eat Brazil nuts. Just four nuts will provide the recommended daily amount (RDA). Mix Brazil nuts with other seeds rich in vitamin E as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other good sources are fish, shellfish, eggs, wheatgerm, tomatoes and broccoli. Vitamin E Vitamin E protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage and supports healthy skin growth. Foods high in vitamin E include almonds, avocado, hazelnuts, pine nuts and sunflower and corn oils. Drink up Skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired and slightly grey. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day - all fluids count towards your daily allowance, but water is the best. If you work in an office, keep a large bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Herbal, caffeine-free teas are good too. Try to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, both can age the skin.

Pls help me My 19 days old baby is on breast feed, he feeds 2 hrs but still hungry then I have to give him bottle 80 ml water n 3 spoon of Farex. What should I do? How much milk is needed for him?

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Babies crying is not always for feed. In the first 3 months crying is more in some babies. It can be due to wet napkins and need for urinating. You have to give other feeds with s spoon and not bottle.

Dear lybrate-user, hope you are breast feeding your baby. As it will protect the immune system of your baby. For cold, use nasal saline drops in each nostrils 2 to 3 times. Let him lie in a head elevated position. Use yashti madhu churnam + honey, make into paste and let him leak it in small dose 2 to 3 times. Or sitopaladi churnam with honey. Heat til oil with small quantity of saindhava lavana (available in ayurveda shop. And apply on chest, lukewarm. Cover him fully when taking out. Don't lie him straight under the fan or switch off ac. Avoid head bath for 3 days. Bath him with warm water. If fever is present, show immediately to your nearest paediatrician.

Adenoids do not exist in nose. your problem is blocked n running nose. Saline nasal drop in each nostrils 3 to 4 times in a day may be helpful. Avoid dusting of powder n fibrous clothing or like, if using.
