Hi, my husband is 35. He dont brush teeth regularly and now he has black thick material on gums. Is brushing teeth daily will cure this problem? he,s afraid of surgery. Please advise.

Hello brushing teeth regularly two times daily is very important to avoid any tooth problems. The black thing is plaque deposited in teeth. Go for professional cleaning and bleaching.

Over-the-counter antihistamines and decongestants are one way to do this. Decongestants cause the blood vessels in the lining of the nose to narrow, reducing blood flow to the area, so you're less congested and you produce less mucus. Decongestants are fine for when you can't breathe due to a cold, but they're not so good for thick mucus in general" the reason is the decongestants dry you up and they make the mucus thick, and often the opposite effect happens because you feel like you have thick mucus" johns explains. So you take more decongestants and get into a vicious mucus-producing cycle. Decongestants also have side effects, which include dizziness, nervousness, and high blood pressure. Antihistamines block or limit the action of histamines, those substances triggered by allergic reactions that cause the tissue in the nose to swell up and release more, thinner mucus (a runny nose). The main side effect of older antihistamines is drowsiness. They also can cause dry mouth, dizziness, and headache. You can also thin out the mucus with guaifenesin, a type of medicine called an expectorant. Thinner mucus is easier to get out of the body. Possible side effects of guaifenesin are dizziness, headache, nausea, and vomiting. Neti pot option if you want to go a more natural route, an alternative for removing mucus is with nasal irrigation. The neti pot, a little teapot-shaped device, is one form of nasal irrigation. Others include the bulb syringe or squeeze bottle.

Root canal teeth are also more brittle, and generally rct-treated teeth need a crown after a root canal so the tooth will not break.

I do brush regularly. But my teeth have got black scaling in the root of teeth. What is the solution.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
All individuals requires scaling (cleaning) to be done atleast once in 6 months to maintain our oral hygiene clean. Our toothbrush is not much finely designed to clean all the plaque and calculi in the interdental areas of the teeth, which is the area where most of the calculus accumulate much and has to be removed regularly using scalers by the dentist.

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks.

Dear Doctor, My daughter is having protruding and irregular teeth. She is 21. Also there is tooth crowding. Can she use braces to rectify the irregularities. Would like to rectify it with invisible braces. Is it possible without extractions? Thanks.

MDS - Orthodontics
Dentist, Faridabad
Braces /Orthodontic treatment would help correct the problem quite effectively In cases of protruding teeth, teeth extraction is inevitable. For invisible braces, she can choose either Lingual braces or Ceramic braces.

I had my wisdom root removed how to know if I have a infection what are the symptoms.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
As with any procedure, removing your wisdom teeth carries some risks. However, these risks are usually small. Risks can include: Dry socket – where a blood clot fails to develop in the tooth socket, or if the blood clot becomes dislodged nerve injury –this can cause temporary or permanent problems, such as pain and numbness infection – signs include a high temperature, yellow or white discharge from the extraction site, and persistent pain and swelling Bleeding You should see your dentist if you have signs of infection after the procedure, or if you're bleeding heavily from the extraction site.

hi...according to me when sugar kevel is controlled and if teeth can't be restored then get them extracted under antibiotic coverage and teeth which can be restored( means teeth which are paining but not mobile ) can go for Root canal treatment followed by crowns...
