Hi, I am diabetic since 2 yrs. My age is 28 yrs. Before attacked by diabetes my weight was about 73 kgs but after getting diabetes my weight got reduced to 63 kgs. How to gain the weight again and how to build the muscles? For the first one year my blood sugar levels was in good control (on medications) but after one year my sugar levels are going out of control like fasting 190 and post lunch 250 like that. (Still using tablets). Unfortunately my job style is like sitting 8 to 9 hrs in front of system. I am planning for children me and my spouse consulted gynecologist for children than Dr. said to take insulin to get the sugar levels in control but my endocrinologist suggested only tablets. If I start taking insulin does it impacts on my body in any other manner? Or it is good to have insulin? Please suggest me the best choice.
Hi, I am 46 years old and I have hypothyroid which is well managed. I take 50 mg eltroxin for that daily. I regularly walk and do some light exercises. I am tensed as I am not getting my menses this month though I am experiencing severe pain in the legs and stomach. I have put on weight during the period of this delay in the menses about 3 to 4 kgs. People who suffer from diabetes follow a strict diet and engage in strenuous exercises to stay healthy. However, most people tend to neglect a serious problem that may arise from diabetes. A condition known as diabetes foot may afflict your feet if proper care is not taken once diabetes is diagnosed. In fact, in severe cases, amputation may be the only way to treat diabetes foot.
How you can prevent diabetes foot
Here are some of the preventive measures you should adopt if you are suffering from diabetes and you want to avoid diabetes foot.
- Check your feet daily to see whether any crack or lesion has appeared. Check the sole of your foot too and around the ankles as well.
- Always keep your feet clean and free of dirt. The best way to do this is by using a soap and warm water. Apply a moisturizer once you are done cleaning them.
- Make sure that your shoes and footwear are appropriate. This means that they should not be too tight and neither should they be too loose. Ensure that your toes are not crammed into the shoe and that you can move them freely.
- Avoid smoking because cigarette smoke reduces blood circulation in the body. If the blood does not circulate properly, it may cause diabetes foot.
- Now that you know the preventative measures for the condition, you should also be aware of the treatment for the same.
Treatment for diabetes foot
Treatment for foot diabetes ulcers should be started as soon as the first symptoms appear or as soon as a qualified physician diagnoses the same. If left untreated, the disease can lead to further complication or even amputation of the limb. Here is a look at the viable ways of treating foot ulcers.
- Keep the ulcer region dry and covered at all times, in order to minimize the infection.
- Blood glucose levels must be regulated so that healing occurs naturally.
- Doctors may suggest topical ointments which must be applied daily to the wound.
- Soft and loose-fitting shoes should be worn, in case you are suffering from foot diabetes ulcers. This will prevent the wound from getting damaged.
- Patients are also advised to avoid walking too much before the ulcer has healed completely.
Consult a physician immediately if you feel some damage in your feet and you think that you may be afflicted with the ulcer in the feet. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
Health benefits of pineapple
1. An anti-inflammatory agent
Pineapple hails from the bromeliaceae family, after which one of its most important health promoting compounds, the enzyme bromelain, was named. The complex mixture of its substances can act as a pain reliever, blood thinner and anti-coagulant, as well as an anti-inflammatory agent. Long story in short, it is nature's aspirin.
2. Cure for constipation
This miraculous fruit aids in the natural digestion process. The high quantity of fiber helps in the formation of stool and its quick movement though the tract, while the enzyme bromelain is known to help in the breakdown of protein. Pineapple juice, in particular, serves as a great laxative that cures constipation.
3. Helps in burning fat
even though it contains sugar (extremely beneficial for growing kids), the amount is not so overwhelming. Plus, the amount of fat is negligible as well, making it a go-to-snack for the ones trying to shed kilos. The soluble fiber content contributes to a delayed digestive process, which helps to control hunger pangs and indirectly accounts for a boost in metabolism and calorie burn" says bangalore-based nutritionist. Dr. Anju sood.
4.Good for the eyes
Pineapple is a rich source of vitamin c, anti-oxidants and minerals like manganese and potassium. It helps fight against cell damage and reduces the risk of macular degeneration, an eye disease that affects older people. It is also a good source of beta carotene, essential for eye health.
5. Regulates blood pressure and hypertension
Medical studies have established that a cup of pineapple contains (low amount) 1 mg of sodium and (high amount) 195 mg of potassium, which is vital for bringing down the blood pressure to a state of normalcy. Potassium is an essential mineral which helps in regulating blood pressure in the body.
6. Counters infertility
If you are a woman struggling to conceive, pineapple can help. The presence of a considerable amount of folic acid makes this possible.
7. Vitamin powerhouse
Pineapples pack a tremendous nutritional punch, containing vitamins a, c, e, and k, minerals like potassium and calcium, electrolytes and phyto-nutrients like carotene. They are a rich source of anti-oxidants, which fight against free radicals in the body, preventing cell damage. These anti-oxidants can protect you from diseases like atherosclerosis, heart diseases, arthritis and various cancers. Vitamin a and vitamin c are a boon for the skin as well" we usually recommend two servings of any fruit a day, and pineapple can certainly be one of them on a daily basis. 100 gm of the fruit is sufficient, provided it is consumed during the first half of the day" adds Dr. Sood
