I feel pain in my legs every night. I mostly do work while sitting. What could be the reason for this pain?
Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Advice... Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold). Ankle Stretch Calves Get a custom made insole. Hams Stretching. Sports Taping. Hot Fomentation.

Hi Satish I will not suggest any medicine for this as of now. Hot fomentations will be sufficient for you. Try the following Take warm water in a bucket or tub and add two spoons of common salt into it; sit on a stool or chair and dip your feet in that water and pour the same water on your calf muscles with a mug. Do this for fifteen minutes and twice a day and let me know in one week. I will suggest medicine if you are not better.

Hi lybrate-user do you have any tender point. Pain in any specific movement of elbow or wrist I would advise you to abstain from sports for a few days. Fo hot water fomentation around elbow and review with me after 3 days.

My age is 42 and working as back office employee in private company. I have vegetarian and normal physique. I diet is irregular timings and some times skipping the diet due to work load. From recent 3 months I am having bp of 140/100. My left hand from shoulder to bottom (wrist) is getting pain (an inner nerve) frequently. What will be the reason and what should I do and what is the remedy for it. Please suggest me.

U have facing with painful syndrome in whole side because nerve compression in that area, go to the physiotherapist take a traction +tens + us for 2 weeks you will be able to come back to you normal activity.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Insert your feet and leg in hot water and wrap a hot towel over your knees and wherever it hurts. Keep this going for 15 minutes and replace it with a cold compression. If you want to reduce your joint pain after viral fever, try out these two methods. First, massage your joints with olive oil and apple cider vinegar for 15 minutes. After 10 minutes, drink half a glass of lemon and vinegar solution, it is a natural pain killer for joint pain. Hi I can understand your problem 1) avoid activities that make your symptoms worse 2) apply ice packs 3) start physiotherapy treatment as electrotherapy will reduce pain and inflammation 4) exercise and manual therapy will help in pain free movement. My sister is spondylitis patient unka spinal cord ka operation v ho chuka h 2 sal phle, operation successful v rh but unko hmesha headache and body pain, joint pain hota h. Dear, aapki sister ka vitamin level bahut kum hai market main vit. Ki bahut taranjeet ki preparation available hai. Capsules/injection etc. Vitamin d ko jyada matra mai dene se iski toxicity ho jati hai. Is liye iska use Dr. Ke anusar kare.

I am 72 yrs old, & having knee pains on both legs. Occasinally I experience nerve cramping near feet. Please advise. I am diabetic for 12 years, &has undergone valve replacement operation before 8yrs.

As told earlier many a times it could be due to vitamin d deficiency in growing children. You can get her tested or just ask your doctor to give her empirical vitamins d supplements, which are pretty safe. Hope that helps. Regards.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 1 wk, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Stiffness is there so tk heat fermentation twice a day and apply pain relief ointment and tk rest avoid toward bending long sitting if it work then ok otherwise tk physiotherapy treatment.

I am 37 years old and I have backache for last 2 years. It occurs when I bend for 5 minutes or longer OR when I stand for at least 15 minutes. I doubt that this is probably a slip disc problem. This is not a regular backache. What should I do?

When there is disc problem pain goes to legs, there is numbness and tingling. I doubt that you have slip disc problem. It seems your problem is associated with weakness of muscles. Do some back muscles strengthening exercises and learn to improve your posture while sitting.

Hi,pain may be due to soft tissue injury. For pain take cold water fomentation for 20 minutes thrice a day for 5 days. Do stretching and gentle massage of hand. If still you don't get relief then get it xray done and consult me via lybrate.

If u have difficulties moving elbow n taking wrist up, it could b tennis elbow! general pain reliving medicines, ice application n physiotherapy for 7 to 10 days may help you! tennis elbow belt may be helpful.

Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily.
