Child of diabetic mother may suffer from serious complications like macrosomia. Iugr. Neural tube defects etc. As a father avoid excessive alcohol smoking etc which may affect sperm count. I am 44 year old. I am suffering with pain in limb knee and waist due to uric acid

MD , MBBS
General Physician, Aligarh
Well. No need to worry. Just a little dietary modifications and medicines will cure the problem. The main culprit uric acid is the result of break down of protiens and so avoiding food rich in protiens will make your body produce less uric acid. So avoid foods as soyabean, pulses except arhar and moong. Vegetables as spinach and cauliflower. Take febuxtat tab one daily for 30 days and do uric acid acid estimation and den revert back. Insha allah v will improve. For pain take hifinac od for a week and then when needed.

I am having thyroid and I was asked by the doctor to take thyronorm 50 mg. On the 3 rd day of starting the medicines I noticed that. Every morning I wake up n spit. I see blood in it. Is that because of the medicines?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr Chandan, Thyroxine tablets do not cause such effect at all. Do you have any cough or throat infection? There may be some different reason for blood that may have been noticed.

Hello sir, My daughter is 17 years old suffering from hypothyroidism and gaining weight about 80 kgs now. She is taking Thyronorm 150 since a year but no improvement. Please advise how to control this disorder and reduce weight?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
give your wife diet for hypothyroidism:- high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, Avoid few foods in hypothroidism i.e. caffeine products tea, coffee, tabcco, alcohol / wine , kale, broccoli, spinach, mustard green, cabbage, turnip, millet, cassava, linseeds, pine nuts, soy products as soy milk, tofu, soybeans, soy souce, also avoid stress. Take Some Relax during work. Proper follow up you can feel better and reduce weight also.

Hi My mother is 63 years og age. She is overweight 100+. Also she is diabetic, hypertensive also having problems in breathing. The main problem is that she is having severe Osteoarthritis of knees. Mostly all Orthopaedic Doctors have advice knee replacement but have also told us that this would be a bit difficult in her case as she is having many other problems. Is there any other treatment rather than knee replacement so that she can live her rest of life without any pain and difficulty.

Post Graduate Program In Diabetologist, MBBS
Diabetologist, Mumbai
She needs to lose weight and get her hypertension, diabetes under control. With weight loss of atleast 10% of her body weight, her parameters will come under normal range and with weight loss, poressure on knees will decrease. She maynot require surgery if her mobulity increases.

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear lybrateuser, - You can add sugar anyway, when you add it after making the tea mix it well - limit your sugar intake to 1-2 teaspoons a day as extra sugar adds to empty calories & raises the blood sugar level.

Hello doctor Happy independence day I want to know which is better cycling or brisk walking for a diabetic. Please tell me.

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
Walking tends to cause more strain on the knees every time you step forward, while cycling keeps the knee intact and works only on movement. You could also try some strength training exercises along with the above.

General Physician,
He needs insulin. CONTROLLING BLOOD SUGAR Diabetes affects all organs in the body – Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. The common symptoms are :-Both types of diabetes have some of the same tell-tale warning signs. Hunger and fatigue. Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to bring the glucose in. If your body doesn't make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. Urinating more often and being thirstier. The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Dry mouth and itchy skin. Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. Blurred vision. Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. In blood test report result _thyroglobulin (CLIA) H >300 NG/ML 0.2-70 how to control.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
A thyroglobulin test may sometimes be ordered when a person has symptoms of hyperthyroidism and/or an enlarged thyroid gland and the healthcare practitioner suspects that the person may have a thyroid disorder such as Graves disease or thyroiditis. It may be ordered at intervals when someone is being treated with anti-thyroid medications (for conditions such as Graves disease) to determine the effectiveness of treatment. Rarely, it may be ordered when an infant has symptoms associated with hypothyroidism. YOur details need to be known to advise.

I have not tried for IVF till then but now before proceeding towards it, I need proper guidance.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

lybrate-user, Arre you on treatment with thyroxine tablets? Because Anti TPO antibodies, indicate there is Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. In this situation TSH can be normal, but there is hypothyroidism. That affects menstrual cycles. So getting conceived is difficult. Since you have not mentioned anything about thyroxine treatment, I asked this question. Thanks.
