Lybrate-user, your concern about developing t2 dm is quite right. Because this is a disease which does show familial trait. If both parents have diabetes then 75 % chance of children getting it. (3 out of 4 children may get). However, one thing good about t2dm is that it is a preventable disease. So if you do following things: 1) maintain normal weight, (height in cms - 100 = kgs), by regular exercise for more than 1 hour a day. 2) take a balanced diet that provides exact amount of calories needed based on ideal body weight and extent of daily exercise. 3) avoid excess sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Also avoid sweetened aerated drinks and fructose corn syrup containing products, high fat cheese, ghee and butter. 4) refrain from alcohol and smoking. 5) consume good deal of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Also take a good deal of fiber containing foods mainly whole grain foods. If you stick these things then you can delay the onset of t2 dm or be free from it. All the best.

Kidney stones treatment depends on the types and size of stone, most kidney stones won't require invasive treatment. You may be able to pass a small stone by: drinking water. Drinking as much as 2 to 3 quarts (1.9 to 2.8 liters) a day may help flush out your urinary system. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, drink enough fluid mostly water to produce clear or nearly clear urine. Pain relievers. Passing a small stone can cause some discomfort. To relieve mild pain, according to your medical history I may prescribe pain relievers such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen or naproxen sodium. Medical therapy. I am a doctor and renal (kidney) dietitian who will aslo prescribe a customized diet plan and medications to help pass your kidney stone quickly and with less pain. Do reply back for private consultation for a detailed treatment plan including dietary therapy.

Gradual weight gain is always advisable. An increase in 500 kcal per day can result in increasing the body weight by 0.5 kgs per week. Objective should be to restore a desirable weight/ ideal body weight according to one's age, gender and height. To rebuild body tissues, to maintain a good nutritional status and to maintain ideal body weight are a few reasons why healthy weight gain is important.

Hi lybrate-user Under GA you will completely loose consciousness. Under IV sedation your pain sensation is reduced by 50-70% based on the medications given. IUI is a fairly painless procedure. 85% of the women don't require any sedation. So not to worry.

Can honey b taken by the blood sugar patient whose blood sugar often remains neat 150 mg?

Can honey b taken by the blood sugar patient whose blood sugar often remains neat 150 mg?
Mr. Lybrate-user singh, please explain the level mentioned 150 mg is it fasting sugar or pp or random. What is the hba1c%? because honey is another form of sugar, as it contains 50% fructose and 50 % glucose, like sucrose (sugar). Like sugar it also increases blood glucose level and fairly rapidly. A little bit of honey may be taken if blood sugar is in full control, with fasting around 100 mg and pp 150 to 160 mg, hba1c% <7. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. First thing is his blood glucose levels have to be maintained close to the desired limits. Like FBG < 100 mg, PP 160 to 180 mg & HbA1c%<7. Plus you can use moisturising creams plus white petroleum jelly application, every day, first wash the feet. Do this over many days. Always make him use footwear at home & outside. If need be do consult a skin specialist. Thanks.

Hypothyroidism is a condition which can only be treated by taking tab thyroxine (thyronorm), to begin with start on 50 mcg daily, to be taken early morning on empty stomach and after that for 2 h nothing to be taken. Since you are pregnant medication has to be started right away and to be continued with out break. After 3 - 4 weeks check tsh, t3 & t4 levels.

Sirji, I have thyroid (TSH) 8.28 plU/mL my age is 23yrs, height is 5ft 6 inches & weight is 55kg, kindly tell me what...
Thyroid is a butterfly shaped organ which is located in the neck region and produces thyroid hormones. Thyroid hormones have far implicating effects on our body and regulate our bmr ie basal metabolic rate. It is simply stated as the energy required to carry on the basal or basic functioning of the body. For eg our body requires energy for digestion and for digestion our intestines have to undergo peristalsis which is the movement of intestines to absorb nutrients from intestines. This energy is regulated by thyroid. So an important symptom of thyriod dysfuction is related to this basal function. If your thyroid underperforms ie hypo thyroidism then you are constipated but if it overperforms ie hyper thyroid then you get frequent loose stools. This explains the effect on only one aspect of body functions but thyroid has multiple effects in multitude of ways on our body. The trick is to just keep it right. Neither hyper nor hypo. Your reports points you are hypothyroid. But you need another test called anti tpo to confirm this. Your hair fall is linked to hypothyroidism. Hope this helps.
