Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Main reason for blood glucose remaining very high is the medications given are mostly not appropriate or inadequate. Secondly there may be an issue with dietary intake as well as physical activity. When on treatment with correct drugs and dosage FBG should be <100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c%<6.8. The levels mentioned are too high. These can lead to more severe problems with all other systems as uncontrolled diabetes can hasten the long term complications. Hence, it is essential to achieve strict blood glucose control. Thanks.

Hi, you can follow basic thumb rules like having small frequent meals, eating 6 small meals in place of 3 major meals. Have a glass of milk or a fruit while going to bed, avoid simple carbohydrates such as bakery items, cold drink, sweets. Have more of protein and good fats such as nuts, roasted grams, etc. Have less oil, ghee, butter on daily basis.

I am having type 2 diabetes since last 14 years. My latest FBS is 124 and PP2 reading is 165. HBA1C is 7.4. The medication taken by me is Gemer 2 before breakfast and dinner, Tenglyn 20 before breakfast and Pioglit 15 before lunch. I also do 45 minutes of brisk walking and exercise daily. I also have a diet as recommended by a dietician. Please advise as to whether any change in the medication is required to get the target HBA1C of less than 7.0.

Mr. Lybrate-user, looking at the details provided, it is possible to reduce your hba1c% <7, by just increasing your daily exercise by a few minutes and also by adujusting daily intake marginally. There is no need to add any additional drug. You are really maintaining blood sugar levels quite well. Keep it up. With regards.

Hi Doc, If I turn vegan, from where do I get daily requirements of protein and minerals needed for healthy body. Isn't it better to have all types of food instead of adapting a vegan lifestyle and do some sort of physical exercise daily. What is real benefit of turning vegan besides improved cholesterol level and less risk of diabetes and other lifestyle diseases.

Mr. Lybrate-user, being a vegetarian is by ones own choice. Vegetarian diet also does provide all the necessary nutrients and proteins, when proper food selection is made. Whole grain foods, multiple grains usage, use of pulses in good quantity, use of soy beans and peanuts, chanas, etc. Does give good proteins. Milk and dahi, gives a good variety of proteins. Green leafy vegetables, multicloured vegetables, fruits and berries, dry fruits offer almost all needed nutrients. Vegetarian diet is good, advantageous but if you want to shift to other foods, there is no barrier. It always by choice. Thanks.

Donor Egg / Donor Embryo

DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MBBS

Donor Egg / Donor Embryo

Donor Egg/ Donor Embryo

If you’re over 40 or can no longer produce healthy eggs, donor eggs can help you carry and deliver a baby. This is also a good option if you’re at risk for passing a genetic disease such as Tay-Sachs disease or sickle cell anemia to your child.

Treatment: What to expect:

  • If you decide on an anonymous egg donor, you can find her through your fertility clinic. You’ll usually be able to choose based on her physical characteristics, ethnic background, educational record, and occupation. Most donors are between 21 and 29 years old and have undergone psychological, medical, and genetic screening. Ask how your clinic screens candidates ” some do less extensive tests and background checks than others. If you choose to use donor embryos, you can either pick unrelated egg and sperm donors or use a frozen embryo donated by a couple that had extras.

  • Once you pick a donor, both you and she will take birth control pills to get your reproductive cycles in sync ” she needs to ovulate when your uterine lining can support an embryo. She’ll also take a fertility drug to help her develop several mature eggs for fertilization, while you will receive estrogen and progesterone to prepare your uterus for pregnancy. Once her eggs are mature, your doctor will give her an anesthetic and remove her eggs from her ovaries by inserting a needle through her vaginal wall using an ultrasound for guidance.

  • From here on out, the procedure is just like that of in vitro fertilization (IVF). Your partner’s sperm or a donor’s sperm will be combined with your donor’s eggs in a dish in a laboratory. Two to five days later, each of the fertilized eggs will be a ball of cells called an embryo. Your doctor will insert two to four embryos into your uterus through your cervix using a thin catheter. Although it’s not a common practice, many experts say couples should consider transfer of a single embryo to avoid the risk of twins or triplets. Extra embryos, if there are any, may be frozen in case this cycle doesn’t succeed. If the treatment does succeed, an embryo will implant in your uterine wall and continue to grow into a baby. In about 40 percent of ART pregnancies using donor eggs, more than one embryo implants itself and women give birth to multiples

Goodafternoon doctor. I am a thyroid patient since 2 years. T3 is 3.84pmol//l, T4 14.50 TSH 4.37. I am 35 years old lady. Pl suggest me something to reduce weight gain. Regards.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

Pay close attention to your food choice. ·        Eat less carbohydrate food sources like chapatti, rice, noodles, pasta, bread etc as they help in gaining weight and storing fat. ·        While having lunch or dinner eat vegetables and dal to fill your stomach rather eating lots of chapattis or rice. ·        Have a healthy breakfast like poha, idli, upma, plain dosa, oats, dalia or khichdi with vegetables. ·        Eat a balance diet including good quality proteins like: fish, lean chicken and eggs. If you are a vegetarian then include skimmed milk, low fat paneer, butter milk, soy bean or soy milk in your diet. ·        Avoid ghee, butter or vanaspati. Prepare your diet with vegetable oil like sunflower, safflower soybean or olive oil. ·        Eat plenty of salads. ·        Eat fresh fruits including apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, sweet lime, berries, guava, watermelon, mask melon etc. ·        Avoid eating outside junk and fried foods like pizza, pasta, roll, burgers, cakes, chocolates and cookies. ·        Have an early dinner. The earlier the better, giving your system more time to digest the food. ·        Avoid cold drinks/alcohol as they add empty calories to your diet. ·        Avoid fat enriched milk products like cheese, sweets, full fat cream etc. ·        Drink 3 liters of water in a day. ·        Try to have less sugar in food and beverages. ·        Try to drink 2 cups of green tea in a day as green tea helps in weight loss by aiding digestion. ·        Avoid red meat like mutton, beef, lamb or pork. ·        Eat sprouts or roasted chana, whenever you feel hungry.

Homeopathy For Infertility

BHMS, Diploma in Diet and Nutrition
Homeopath, Lucknow
Homeopathy For Infertility

Most couples who get married intend to go the family route sooner or later. However, for those who have been trying sexual intercourse for more than 6 months without any contraceptive aids and still have not succeeded in having a baby, the underlying cause may be infertility in one or both partners. Infertility affects up to 15% of couples trying to conceive and have a baby.

Infertility, in medical terms, refers to a person’s biological inability to contribute to conception. There are many biological causes that may make this happen, some of which can be medically corrected.

The Homeopathic Approach to Treat Infertility:

The homeopathic approach towards the management of health problems is constitutional. The treatment takes into account the presenting complaints - the symptoms - along with the unique physical, mental and genetic make-up that individualizes a person. Homeopathic medicines act at the roots of all ailments. They can rectify deviations of the hormonal system and get them back to normalcy. The simple homeopathic procedure effectively and efficiently avoids complicated procedures that follow the common treatments of infertility. More specifically, the complete hormonal harmony greatly increases the chances of conception without the harmful and/or painful side effects of medications, devices and invasive procedures. The biggest advantage of homeopathic treatment is that even after the treatment, the high sperm count is maintained. The medicines involved are easy to take, since there are only sweet pills and drops.

The homeopath plans the medication separately for every individual, by understanding his or her physical, as well as emotional and mental or spiritual imbalances. That is why this system becomes an excellent option for those seeking help with this issue, as it addresses health on a deep holistic level. The homeopath carefully prescribes the medicine that works on the real cause of infertility, along with other symptoms like any type of pain, stress, etc.

There are no prerequisites to start a homeopathy treatment for infertility. Anyone who just came to know about their infertility problem or those who have tried other infertility treatments without any results can consult a homeopath. Homeopathy medicines can also be used with other treatment methods, but the homeopath should be informed about it to prevent any interfering actions.

Final Tips For Infertility Treatments Using Homeopathy:

Homeopathy therapy works on male and female infertility in following way:

  1. It regulates and balances the body’s hormones, menstrual cycle and enhances the ovulation process in females.
  2. In males, it helps to increase the sperm count, their mobility and also their morphology by naturally stimulating the body.
  3. It helps with emotional blockages, disturbances and ambiguous thought processes that may affect fertility.
  4. It helps with the stress, anxiety and depression problems for those who are trying to conceive.
  5. It also helps in curing the side-effects of various other fertility treatments.

The homeopathic treatment for infertility is strictly individualistic. Whatever the reason that the patient opts for homeopathy, the treatment should be supported by a healthy diet and proper lifestyle, like avoiding alcohol and smoking. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath and ask a free question.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if you have diabetes t2, then it is essential to have good control of blood sugar, for that fasting should be near 100 mg, pp shoud be 150 to 160 mg (as you have now) and hba1c% < 6.8. Diet for a person with diabetes has to be very individualised, so I need to know present dietary habits, fasting sugar levels and hba1c% plus daily exercise level. In the mean time avoid sweets, direct sugar and gur, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits. Also exercise regularly for at least 1 hour. Our is just about 20 kg/m2 which is in fact much lower than normal bmi of 23 kg/m2.
