Menstrual cycle can be disturbed if you have an imbalance of the hormones oestrogen and progesterone. It's not unusual to have a hormone imbalance for a few years after puberty and before the menopause. This can cause your menstrual cycle to become longer or shorter. Your periods may also become lighter or heavier. Lifestyle The following lifestyle factors can also upset your balance of hormones and cause irregular bleeding: • extreme weight loss or weight gain • excessive exercise • stress Polycystic ovary syndrome Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) occurs when very small cysts (small, fluid-filled sacs) develop in the ovaries. The usual symptoms of PCOS are irregular or light periods or no periods at all. This is because, in women with PCOS, ovulation (the release of an egg) may not take place as often as normal. The production of hormones may also be unbalanced, and you could have higher levels of testosterone than normal. Testosterone is a male hormone that women usually have a small amount of. Thyroid disorders A thyroid disorder is another possible, but rare, cause of irregular periods. The thyroid gland, found in the neck, produces hormones that maintain the body's metabolism (the chemical processes your body uses to turn food into energy). Your Doctor may test for a thyroid problem by taking a blood test to check levels of thyroid hormones in your blood. Anaemia Iron deficiency due to improper diet intake can ometimes lead to irregular periods. So a thorough phyical examination is required regarding the weight History,Menstrual history,Dietary habits and any life tyle change that tookplace in her life.Only then we can reach to a diagnosis and can start a treatment for that particular problem

Its not entirely same except when u already have scanty menses. The implantation bleeding is not heavy, and the colour of implantation bleeding is also little brownish or pinkish and not deep red like menstrual blood. Also implantation bleeding can be in form of just spotting

The popularity of ayurveda as an alternative form of medicine has been on the rise for sometime as it is effective, holistic and without side effects. One of the forms of ayurvedic treatment which has been practiced for ages and has resurged in popularity over the past few decades is the panchakarma therapy. Let's take a look at this form of alternative healing.

What exactly is panchakarma therapy?
Panchakarma therapy, which literally translates into five therapies, is the primary form of detoxification and purification of the body in ayurveda. The functions of panchakarma are to remove stress and toxins which may cause illnesses as well as the re-balancing of energies or the doshas that govern all of the biological functions within the body.

Individual parts of the therapy
1. Vamana - this is a medicated and controlled form of regurgitation or vomiting which is used to loosen the toxins within the body and then flushing them out of the system and to balance kapha doshas. It is also used to clear the respiratory tract. It is extremely beneficial in case the patient has chronic allergies, hyperacidity, congestion, bronchial asthma, obesity among other disorders.

2. Basti or the irrigation of the colon - although this treatment is used as a rejuvenating treatment, the main purpose of basti is to flush out the toxins with the body through the use of an enema and to clear the colon of toxins. This is often considered the mother of all panchakarma treatments as it clears out toxins from all three doshas, namely kapha, pitta and vata.

3. Virechana or purgation of the toxins through the gastrointestinal tract - this therapy is meant to purge the entire toxins from the body via the gastrointestinal tract. Its primary targets are to detoxify the liver and the gallbladder. If you suffer from asthma, digestive disorders, constipation, hyperacidity, headaches, chronic fever or diabetes, this treatment can be of immense help.

4. Nose cleaning or nasya - the main aim of this treatment is to clean the toxins of the head and neck area. This is achieved by administering of special medicated oils through the nose and then cleaning the kapha toxins that have accumulated over time.

5. Raktamokshana - this is a rare procedure but performed in extreme cases and involves blood letting in a very controlled manner and minute quantities to detoxify the body.

Importance of the panchakarma diet
This is one of the most important parts of the panchakarma therapy as none of the treatments mentioned above will be effective if you don't follow this proper diet. Treatments can be individual or a combination of multiple parts mentioned above and has been known to be very effective in curing a variety of disorders if followed properly with the diet.

Although NT appears near the higher side of normal, the risk of problem is less, unless associated with absent nasal bone and other anomalies. You should go for simultaneous blood tests like PAPP-A and hcg for confirmation and also repeat the scan at another centre better trained in fetal scanning within 14 weeks.

Take green vegetables like spinach, methi, cabbage, bhindi, carrots. Take milk or dahi twice daily-. Include dal, chana, rajma that are rich sources of proteins in your diet. Also take fruits as evening or afternoon snacks- bananas, apples, pears, guavas. Also I would recommend a health drink like proteinex once daily.

Abdominoplasty - An Overview

MCh - Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Ask Free Question
Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is a frequently performed cosmetic procedure which is meant to improve the looks or appearance of your abdominal region. The primary goal of this procedure is to remove excess skin or fat from the abdominal region and then reconnect the tissues with sutures to get a more toned and flat look.

The requirement for abdominoplasty
The tummy tuck surgery is for someone who has folds of fat or skin on their abdominal region that results in an unsightly appearance and causes body image issues. These problems may be caused by multiple factors, some of which are mentioned below:

1. Significant weight loss: Men or women who have lost a lot of weight tend to have excess loose skin on their bodies as a result of the skin being stretched over a long period of time.

2. Pregnancy: Many women who have gone through multiple pregnancies also have similar problems as the skin in their abdominal region tends to stretch over multiple times which may result in the skin becoming flabby.

3. You have a weak lower abdominal wall: Some patients tend to generally have a weak lower abdominal wall which over the years tends to protrude and hang. This results in a misshapen body which they want to correct for body image issues.

4. To correct scarring from C section: Many women who give birth via C-section tend to have a scar on their body and some abdominal contouring can change the shape and size of the scar, which in turn not only tightens the tummy but also hides the scars.

Considerations before abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty isn't recommended if you fall under any of the following categories:
1. Still have to lose weight: If you have to lose a lot of weight, then it is advised that you wait till your goal weight is reached and only then consider this procedure. Abdominoplasty isn't meant to reduce weight, but to take out excess skin and flab that remains after weight loss

2. Plan on becoming pregnant again: If you are planning to become pregnant again, then the muscles and tissues in your abdomen might loosen and cause a flabby belly again.

3. If you have heart disease or other conditions: If you have heart related conditions or are diabetic, then abdominoplasty won't be considered as it might put you at high risk of complications after surgery.
