Don't get panic it is most probably either infection or benign breast disease. Is there any history of fever or trauma? you should go for ultrasound of breast and examination by a surgeon.

I am suffering by AVN (avascular necrosis) followed by excessive steroids-dexamethasone (in chemotherapy treatment for breast Cancer in my left breast) since last three years, taking homeopathic remedies such as Calcareous Hypophos, but still to much pain & my bone shape is changed. please suggest me better remedies.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Avascular necrosis (AVN), also called osteonecrosis, aseptic necrosis, or ischemic bone necrosis, is a condition that occurs when there is loss of blood to the bone. Because bone is living tissue that requires blood, an interruption to the blood supply causes bone to die. If not stopped, this process eventually causes the bone to collapse. Avascular necrosis most commonly occurs in the upper leg. Other common sites are the upper arm, knees, shoulder, and ankles. The goals of treatment for AVN are to improve or ensure function of the affected joint, stop the progression of bone damage, and reduce pain. The best treatment will depend on a number of factors, including: Your age Stage of the disease Location and amount of bone damage Cause of AVN If the cause of your avascular necrosis is identified, treatment will include efforts to manage the underlying condition. For example, if AVN is caused by blood clots, your doctor will prescribe medications to dissolve clots. If inflammation of the arteries is responsible, your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory medicines. While these nonsurgical treatments may slow the progression of avascular necrosis, most people with the condition eventually need surgery. Surgical options include: Bone grafts, which involve removing healthy bone from one part of the body and using it to replace the damaged bone Osteotomy, a procedure that involves cutting the bone and changing its alignment to relieve stress on the bone or joint Total joint replacement, which involves removing the damaged joint and replacing it with a synthetic joint Core decompression, a procedure that involves removing part of the inside of the bone to relieve pressure and allow new blood vessels to form Vascularized bone graft, a procedure that uses the patient's own tissue to rebuild diseased or damaged hip joints; the surgeon first removes the bone with the poor blood supply from the hip and then replaces it with the blood-vessel-rich bone from another site, such as the fibula, the smaller bone located in the lower leg.

See there are many antibiotics to control this kind of infection. But their effect depend upon type of bacteria which caused infection there. You should have to do urine culture and sensitivity testing. After that we can decide which antibiotic has to administer.

All cysts do not change to cancer but if its reducing after some time then no need to worry. If it persists then do a fnac test to confirm. Cyst in fallopian tube can lead to problem in pregnacy but need to observe closely by usg. And if required can rescect in out before planning for pregnancy.

What are the symptoms of cancer and what to troubleshoot measures can be adopted?

Fellow Breast Surgery (MUHS), DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
Oncologist, Aurangabad
Hello lybrate-user. Your question is important but a lil vague. I would see to it tht I help you as much as possible through my answer. Cancer can cause symptoms because of two things. Either due the under functioning of an organ where the cancer has started (local) or due to under functioning of an organ where the cancer has spread (distant) or some generalized complaints. Local complaints depend on organ involved. For the organs which are beneath skin it usually presents as lump. Like breast cancer, thyroid cancer, cancers of soft tissue, etc. When the organ is deep seated it mainly interferes with its primary functions and hence the symptoms. For example, stomach cancer will cause indigestion, heaviness in upper abdomen, bloody vomitus or black stools. Cancer of intestine will cause change in bowel habits or bleeding in stools. Liver cancer may cause jaundice. Brain tumor can cause vomiting, fits. Headaches, etc. A complete picture is quite big and out of scope for this communication. Distant spread usually causes problems based on organ involved, similar to local. But possibility of multiple sites involved at the same time remains high. Bone spread causes excess unressolving pains or fractures. Spread to lung can cause cough and blood in sputum. And so on. Some general complaints are, weight loss, loss of appetite, fatigue and looking pale. Most, if not all, oral cancers are caused by tobacco chewing. Cancer of cervix, a part of uterus is caused by infection with human papilloma virus, which spreads with unprotected sexual contact. These two are preventable cancers. Rest of the cancers are not preventable per se. But if detected early can be taught well. Early detection solely depends on being aware of cancers common to one's age group and respect any unusual change in body habit which persists for long. So. Eat healthy, drink loads of healthy liquids, breathe loads of fresh air with the help of pranayam, exercise well and regular. Which will help keeping cancer a little away and at the same time, if unfortunately this unpredictable guest makes an appearance, a good health is important to sustain the treatments, helping one to get disease free as fast and as long as possible. Thanks.

My friend's father is suffering from Mouth Cancer. Everyday he is suffering from pain. Please let us know what would be the best way to get rid from it.

MBBS, DNB ( Radiation Oncology)
Oncologist, Mumbai
He needs to be evaluated by an oncologist to examine the extent of disease. If it can be operated it should be removed surgically by an onco surgeon followed by adjuvant treatment after the histopathology report.

Dear mam, if you have found a lump in your breast, it should be evaluated by a clinician to ascertain the same and if indicated then ultrasound or mammography can be done and needle aspiration if required. Breast pain is usual if your periods are nearing due to inflammation or swelling of breast due to hormonal changes and you can do fomentation and take some pain killer for temporary period also vitamin e supplement some times help.

My dad is suffering from lung cancer he is going under chemotherapy but his haemoglobin level is not rising. What should we do?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, after cancer chemotherapy hemoglobin and blood count is likely to go down. If it is severely down then blood transfusion is indicated. I hope he must be already on blood forming and stimulating agents. If not they can be used on weekly or fortnightly or monthly basis. Your doctor will advise you. Secondly chemotherapy should be suspended till there is regeneration of hemoglobin. Truly,

Cancer is abnormal uncontrolled proliferation of cells leading to symptoms like palpable lump, ulceration, abnormal bleeding from anywhere, weight loss, difficulty in swallowing, change in voice, change in bowelor bladder habits etc depending on organ affected. Feeling lazy and sleepy is not any specific symptom of cancer, you should consult a neurologist to find out if it is pathological.

How do you remove the pesticides from broccoli which is very harmful and probably causes cancers?

B.E (Computer Sc. & Engg.), Advanced Strategic Management (APSM), Ayurveda (I) Cert., Doctor of Natural Medicine (N.D/ N.M.D), Integrative Oncology for Physicians (MSKCC, N.Y, USA), Clinically Relevant Herb-Drug Interactions (CME) (Cine-Med Inc. Alternative Medicine Specialist, Bhubaneswar
Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking guidance. Well, you can wash it thoroughly with cold water 2 to 3 times that shall remove maximum of the pesticide residues. Also, washing with 2% salt solution will help remove the pesticides. Residues remaining, if any, shall get removed during the process of cooking. The above-mentioned risk of pesticide contamination is averted significantly/ totally, if one goes for organically cultivated fruits, vegetables and foods etc all.

A PSA of 10may be seen in enlarged prostate of any reason. Get an ultrasound of pelvis done to check for nodules in the prostate. If any nodules are found a biopsy should be done. If it is a benign hypertrophy, follow it up with yearly PSA testing
