A person having weight below the range that is considered normal as per his/her height and age is believed to be underweight. Many persons may be underweight simply because of their genetic makeup. Others may be underweight because of other factors such as eating less or taking a diet insufficient in nutrients. There are a few medical conditions that make a person lose weight and fall in the underweight category. These medical conditions include IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), tuberculosis, crohn’s disease, and liver problems. A person who is stressed or depressed may also lose weight. Homeopathic medicines are extremely helpful for persons looking to gain weight. Homeopathy offers a wide range of medicines that can help underweight persons gain weight in a healthy way. The selection of Homeopathic medicines for gaining weight is based on individual case presentation. The medicines help gain weight while at the same time building immunity. In fact, Homeopathic medicines work by correcting the underlying medical condition that has caused the weight loss in the first place, thereby improving the overall health condition of the person concerned. In the homeopathic literature, there are more than a hundred homeopathic remedies which were found to have cured kidney stones. This has been confirmed in the medicinal provings on healthy subjects as well as in clinical trials on patients suffering from renal calculi You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

My anus is paining mainly when going to toilet only outside that too. If I keep finger at the opening surface, I feel high pain. Its like keeping hand on a open wound. This is created mainly when toilet goes very tight and hard. I drink 3litres water per day.

It is likely to be anal fissure. Anal fissure improves with general measures but may require surgery. The general measures I would suggest are 1. Take lot of vegetables & fruits in your diet 2. Avoid chillies & spices 3. Take lot of fluids 4. Avoid constipation 5 periodically do anal exercises (alternately contracting & relaxing the buttocks, anal area & upper thighs) 6. Take sitz bath 3-4 times a day. This means sitting in a tub of warm water & doing anal exercises 7. Atleast once get it examined by a general surgeon.

Is tongue fissures can be healed? Will tongue become normal again? Is fissured tongue is a disease or symptom of another disease? Is fissured tongue a matter of concern?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
It’s called fissured tongue. It is s a benign condition characterized by deep grooves (fissures) in the dorsum of the tongue. Although these grooves may look unsettling, the condition is usually painless. Clean the surface of the tongue with a tongue cleaner to prevent any bacterial or fungal infection.

Acute Renal Failure

MBBS, MD - Medicine, DM - Nephrology

Acute Renal Failure

Acute Renal Failure- What it is?

Acute renal failure is a condition that develops when the kidneys lose their ability to filter out wastes, excess fluids and salts from the blood stream. Eliminating these wastes forms the basic core of the kidney’s functioning. When this happens, the bodily fluids start to accumulate and may exceed alarming levels. As a result of this condition, the body’s electrolyte levels can go awry, thus posing a potential life threatening situation for the patient.

Also called ‘acute kidney injury’, this condition mostly affects patients who have been admitted in hospitals and nursing homes since an extended period of time. It might take several weeks or even months for this condition to manifest. However, in a few cases, acute kidney failure can also happen over a matter of a few hours.

Critically ill patients or people who require intensive critical care are at the maximum risk of developing this condition.

The good part is that this condition is certainly reversible. However, it usually requires intensive treatment.

How is Acute Renal Failure Caused?

  1. Acute kidney failure can occur for many reasons. Among the most common reasons are:
    • acute tubular necrosis (ATN)
    • severe or sudden dehydration
    • toxic kidney injury from poisons or certain medications
    • autoimmune kidney diseases, such as acute nephritic syndrome and interstitial nephritis
    • urinary tract obstruction
  2. Reduced blood flow can damage your kidneys. The following conditions can lead to decreased blood flow to your kidneys:
  3. Certain disorders can cause clotting within your kidney’s blood vessels, and this can lead to acute kidney failure. These conditions include:
    • hemolytic uremic syndrome
    • idiopathic thrombocytopenic thrombotic purpura (ITTP)
    • malignant hypertension
    • transfusion reaction
    • scleroderma
  4. Some infections, such as septicemia and acute pyelonephritis, can directly injure your kidneys.
  5. Pregnancy can also cause complications that harm the kidneys, including placenta previa and placenta abruption.

What are the risk factors?

Age is definitely the primary risk factor in case of acute renal failure. Other risk factors include:

  1. Liver diseases
  2. Kidney diseases
  3. Uncontrolled diabetes
  4. High BP count
  5. Morbid obesity
  6. Heart failure

Often times, susceptibility increases with the time one has spent in the ICU of a nursing home. Bone marrow transplant and surgeries of the heart and/or the abdomen can drastically up the risks.

What are the common symptoms?

The common symptoms include:

  1. Bloody stools
  2. Foul odor in breath
  3. Sluggish and slow movements
  4. Tremors of the hands
  5. Easy bruising
  6. Fluid accumulation and retention
  7. Hip pain and pain between the ribs
  8. Vomiting
  9. Fatigue and nausea
  10. High BP count
  11. Seizures
  12. Reduced appetite
  13. Reduced sensation, especially in the hands and the extremities

How To Prevent Renal Failure?

To prevent renal failure, you can follow the given steps.

  1. Exercise: Exercise regularly. Exercise will bring a positive effect to your body. You can do a light exercise such as jogging or cycling 1-2 hours each week.
  2. Stop Smoking: Smoking will give a bad impact to your body. Nicotine in the smoke in the future will damage your vital organs of your body, such as lungs, skin, heart, or renal.
  3. Reduce the Intake of Fatty Food: Fatty food can stimulate the level of cholesterol in your body increase.
  4. The Weight of your Body: You have to take care of your body so that you will not get obesity.
  5. Take Fresh Water: Take enough fresh water. Do not take any medicine without the recipe of the doctor.
  6. Get General Check up: You can prevent yourself from this disease by regularly getting a general medical check up done, including your urine and blood.

All during night i feel thirsty ,consume water , my mouth goes dry to the extreme , to avoid i have to get up & keep sipping water. Also urination is there about 3-4times at night. As per the blood tests my sugar fasting & post are normal as per the specification.

MD - General Medicine, MBBS
General Physician,
One condition whoch can cause similar complaints is diabetes insipidis. But it is quite rare. You might be having certain problems in the mouth which might be causing dryness of mouth which in turn might make you thirsty and cause more urination.

Mr. lybrate-user, If you have diabetes then it is not advisable to have honey as it is mainly sucrose. It is really not much different from sugar, but does contain some additional substances like antioxidents and a few vitamins. Taking it in larger quantity is going to affect blood glucose. Thanks.

Dear sir, flu is common cold, presenting as running nose, cough, sneezing, watery discharge from eyes, fever, muscle pain, weakness etc. Prostatic cancer in early stages can either be operated or receive radiation therapy.
