My child is 3.5 months old and the colour of his stool is green and watery. We gave him walmycin antibiotic and zinc but there is no effect. Kindly suggest best medicine. Can we give him 1/4 sachet of sporlac for clearing bacteria? Please suggest us the best as we are worried about our son.

MBBS MD DCH FRCP (LONDON), Dch
Pediatrician, Muzaffarpur
If your baby is on exclusive mothers milk then colour consistency and frequency of stool does not matter as long as your baby is alert active taking feed and gaining weight. No medicine is required. This is also known as breast milk diarrhoea.

Hi, I would like to know about 8 months old baby having fever and mouth ulcer can I give coconut water to him.
Give lots of fluids to relieve him from ulcers. Fluids diet and water as well. Fever is the sign of inflammatory reaction. Start giving him homoepathic treatment for long term benefits.

My daughter is 10 years old from past 8 months three times she got chest pain and shortness of breath and both shoulder pain elbow pain and palm pain severe. Night and morning she gets more.

Hi, your baby is suffering with respiratory problem that's why she has pain in chest so we have to rule out whether it's a normal problem orelse bronchitis or asthma or Tuberculosis of lungs. Palm elbow shoulder pain is due to weak bones due to vitamin deficiencies like calcium magnesium & lower immune response. So once consult a doctor he can advise some investigations according to your reports he can advise medication.

Make sure to make your baby burp several times after every feeding.

My 20 months old baby sometimes stools green colour for last few days. However he didn't take any green coloured food. But he take calcium, vitamin and iron syrup prescribed by a doctor. He behaves normally and is active. Is there any reason to worry? please suggest.

No usually because of dentition and all the baby sometimes suffers from this complaint. You may give him homoeopathic medicine Chamomilla 200 1 dose.

What Are The Causes And Symptoms Of Epilepsy?

MBBS Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, MD - General Medicine, DM - Neurology

What Are The Causes And Symptoms Of Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a neurological disease which is characterised by recurring epileptic seizures. These seizures can be brief or can persist for prolonged periods. Vigorous episodes which last long can result in physical injuries such as broken bones. Mention that 6th February is International epilepsy day.

Causes of Epilepsy
The cause of this condition isn’t very evident; however, most medical practitioners attribute epileptic seizures to brain injury, tumours, infections in the brain or birth defects. Some doctors believe that epilepsy is caused due to genetic mutations and is an outcome of abnormal activity of cells in the brain. Other causes for this condition can be alcohol or narcotics withdrawal and electrolyte problems.

Symptoms

  1. Repeated seizures
  2. Impaired memory
  3. Bouts of fainting
  4. Short spans of blackout
  5. Sudden bouts of blinking and chewing
  6. Panic
  7. Inappropriate repetitive movements

Types of Seizures
A seizure, also known as fit, is usually a brief episode characterised by uncontrollable jerking movement and loss of awareness due to abnormal neuronal activity in your brain. A collective occurrence of these seizures causes epilepsy.

There are three types of seizures an epileptic person usually encounters.

  1. Idiopathic: This kind of seizure has no apparent cause
  2. Cryptogenic: The doctors believe that there is a cause for the seizure but cannot detect it
  3. Symptomatic: These seizures occur due to a reason.

Treatments

  1. Medication: Medication is the most common treatment in case of epilepsy. Drugs taken on a regular basis can stop the seizure partially. But in very severe cases, they seem to have no effect at all.
  2. Surgery: For symptomatic seizures which are caused due to abnormal brain function, surgery can be a way to get rid of seizures. In some minor cases, nerve stimulation in the brain and special diets can be prescribed to control the epileptic seizures.

Five facts about epilepsy you need to know:

  • Epilepsy is not psychosis or madness and can be treated easily
  • Popular celebraties with epilepsy include Aristotle, Alfred Nobel, Alexander the great, Sir Isaacs Newton, Martin Luther and Julius Caesar etc.
  • Woman with epilepsy can have a normal pregnancy
  • Newer medicines for epilepsy are effective and very safe
  • Surgery can cure epilepsy in some patients.

I can understand the problem as myself face this concern day in day out as i'm a regular swimmer. This is tanning due to sun exposure while swimming. With added effect of chlorine. First of all, no matter what you do or apply, you will definitely turn a shade darker with chlorine water. However, you can avoid getting 2-3 shades darker. Apply sunscreen with spf (50) 30 min before you enter the pool. Apply sesame oil 5 min before entering the pool. This oil doesn't wash off easily (bear the smell but) wash off the chlorine from your skin by taking shower and apply a moisturiser and thereafter a sunscreen (spf 30), again. Make sure your son doesn't come out of pool frequently once gone in the water to avoid tanning. Once finished swimming. Rinse off chlorine properly with shower.
