I am 44 years old and the doctor advised me to start calcium tablets. However, calcium, iron does not agree with me. Natural intake of calcium like curd, milk in breakfast also causes me gas trouble. I experience pain in stomach. I have a desk job but even with conscious efforts to do some walking in office doesn't help. I cannot have anything made of refined flour, besan, sprouts. It causes me bloating and heaviness in my stomach. I also have low digestion capacity. I am largely a vegetarian and have fish very rarely may be once in 3 months. Kindly advise.

Hi lybrate-user Healthy choice of food, proper workout routine can lead to a better you. Starting and following the steps as planned towards the beginning can be hard, but everything gets accustomed with time. Don’t ever overdo with any exercise and do as far as the body permits. Individual predisposition, natural abilities and genes should always be taken into account while implementing an exercise program. A slim person would normally have high metabolism than a not so slim person and can achieve better results working out only 3-4 times a week, 5- 6 times for the latter. We lose water via sweating, urinating and breathing, etc. Thus we lose more water during hot weather, even if you aren’t sweating. Don’t let your body get dehydrated, supply yourself with water and required fluids whenever the body demands. Do not ever skip breakfast as not eating well at the starting of the day can result in being hungry later on. Choose your food well. Snacking by sitting in front of the TV is the easiest way to hamper your diet. Thus, watch out what you eat. Burn up a particular amount of calorie to maintain the balance of your health. Settle for several mini meals than one huge meal during the day, as you tend to over eat while you are very hungry. Protein is the ultimate fill me up food as it’s both satisfying and healthier than carbohydrates or fats. Have more vegetables and fruits. Fill your stomach with more amounts of vegetables than carbohydrates. Include more fiber in your diet which would also help you lower your cholesterol. If previously you used to have one cup of pasta, try replacing it with one cup of vegetable and lesser pasta for consumption. If you are determined to lose weight, take time lose it, drastic reduction in anything is not a healthy option. Get quality sleep. Getting enough sleep may make you feel rested and full and keep you away from unnecessary snacking. Get to know portion sizes. Try to right-size your diet by using a kitchen scale or measuring cups to measure your meals for a week or two. Use smaller plates and glasses to downsize your portion and get satisfied with whatever is available in the plate. Switch your food habits if you understand it’s not quite healthy and nutritious for your body. Opt for salads tossed with pepper and lemon to add flavors to it. Try skipping alcohols and nicotine. As alcohols contain empty calories it gets converted into direct body fat. Celebrate but not with food. If success comes your way then celebration is mandatory. Do celebrate but treat yourself with assets or shopping and not with an enormous pizza or a chocolate sundae. Fill your house with healthy snack Exercise regularly and maintain the consistency. Workout with a companion. Keep a diary of your progress and check your weight at regular intervals.

Suitable fluids to drink when you have diarrhoea include oral rehydration fluids, water, clear soups and broths and diluted juices. If you have nausea, try taking small sips of fluid often. Dehydration may be treated with oral fluids or, if severe, with intravenous fluids.

Your stomach upset is definitely related to the anxiety attacks you are experiencing. You may be troubling yourself unnecessarily and too caught up with excessive thinking. You must now act on these problems and only then will a solution appear. Anxiety has all to do with fear and your inability (or so you would tend to think) to handle the same. Fear is based on looking too much into the future and imagining things that usually do not tend to happen (usually 90% of your fears will not happen). You need to change your perception of the fearful stimulus then you can change your response to the fear. The first one is the best and will preempt the need for the second. If you are already far gone into the reaction mode, then you need both responses to counter the attack. The way we see things in life (like half empty or half full glass) is very dependent on our attitude. Attitude may have developed over many years but fortunately can change in a matter of sustained choices made and acted up on now. Accordingly you choose to see things as either threatening or as an opportunity. The opportunist will be positive and work with the situation to make good out of it. The individual who sees it as threatening, will, out of fear, try to avoid/run away from the situation or react with anxiety. Yes, self-belief does impact it too, but you can see that prior to that, perception will tarnish the belief system too. Here, you can see that all the resolution lies in just changing your perception/attitude, even if it is against odds. Changing your response, despite the perception, is building up of your reserves and resources to handle any contingency that life throws up at you. And life throws up situations quite regularly and heavily. For this you need to develop a fit mind and body: The former, by meditation and mind exercises; and the later, by exercises and proper diet. You need good sleep too. Included in the development of the mind is the handling of emotions, in your case, fear. These changes will give you a handle on life and your perceptions and responses. Prayer is really powerful, if you are a spiritual person. Repeat some personally framed affirmations that are geared to calming you down and building confidence. Do a personality course too. Anything that develops you personally will be of great assistance in building resilience.

Eat small meals. Instead of 3 big meals, have 5 small meals every 3-4 hours. Eat slowly. Don’t sleep on a full stomach. Try to have an early dinner. Make sure there is a gap of 3 hours between your last meal and bed time. Wear loose-fitting clothes. Avoid certain known foods which cause acidity like, coffee, tea, colas, and citrus fruits, oily and spicy food. If your weight is high – losing a few kilos will reduce acidity too. Keep a gap of 2 hours between exercise and meals. Drink at least 3 litres of water every day. Try meditation and yoga to minimise daily stress.

Thanks for the query. If you remain awake at night for long hours, keep on munching something after every two hours to avoid excess acid formation. Also you can take bio combination no 25, two tablets two times a day plus 1 spoon of caprofa syrup before meals for a month. Revert after a month.

Homoeopathic treatment is safe and effective way to provide permanent cure in fatty liver grade 2 disease. If you're willing to take a homoeopathic treatment just let me know through private conversation in Lybrate. Fatty Liver Grade 2 Unhealthy lifestyle habits along with poor health maintenance usually give rise to various health problems.  In such a situation it is normally the gastrointestinal tract that gets affected initially, with the liver taking a major brunt of it all.  Fatty liver disease has progressed to be the most common ailment of the liver suffered by most at the present time. Causes – In some, genetics may be the causative factor for this disease condition.  But most often it is either due to abnormal conditions of the body systems like diabetes, high blood cholesterol or triglyceride levels, or excess body weight.  Over use of certain medications are also known to interfere with the proper functions of the liver and cause fatty liver disease to set in.  Heavy alcohol drinking is also linked to this liver condition. Treatment – Effective treatment depends on identifying the exact cause behind this disease development.  Now, fatty liver is classified into two – alcoholic and non-alcoholic type.  Hence, if an individual is diagnosed with the alcoholic type, then refraining from drinking alcohol, even in moderate amounts, will help in reversing this liver disease. For the non-alcoholic fatty liver type sufferers though the treatment involves a change in diet and lifestyle habits. Foods to Be Avoided – Refined carbohydrates like white rice, white bread, noodles, and pasta to be removed from the person’s diet. Processed junk foods contain excess greasy fats and thus needs to be removed.  Breakfast cereals are also processed highly and should be avoided.  Likewise, baked goods like cakes, cookies, scones, puff pastry, etc. Require excess fats for baking purposes and needs to be eliminated by the sufferer. Deep fried sweet and savories also to be avoided by the person.  Meat, especially red meats like lamb, pork and beef, and meat products that contain animal fats needs to be avoided. Dairy rich products like cheese, butter, margarine, mayonnaise, ice-creams and fruit yogurt also to be avoided. Artificial sweeteners to be avoided for breakdown of these additives will exert the liver. Foods to Promote Healthy Liver – Whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat, rye, and oats to be made part of the person’s regular diet.  Organic fruits and vegetables that are rich in fiber will benefit a fatty liver sufferer. If meat cannot be avoided, the person will need to switch to fat-trimmed meats and chicken.  Seafood like prawn, mackerel, salmon, sardine, tuna, etc. Which are rich in essential fatty acids may also be consumed by the sufferer. For regular cooking, oils that contain omega-3 fatty acids are recommended for the sufferer.  The best choice would be cold-pressed olive oil. Exercise – Reduction ofugh abdominal fat with exercise is recommended for fatty liver sufferers.  A regular exercise routine will also keep overall body weight at desired levels, which is essential to keep all disease conditions at bay.
