Can you recommend any tools that will help me stay motivated to stay on my eating plan? Are there any long-term effects associated with taking ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) medications? If so, what are they and what medications are implicated?

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition

A high-protein diet. Beans, cheese, eggs, meat, and nuts can be good sources of protein. Eat these kinds of foods in the morning and for after-school snacks. It may help improve concentration and possibly make ADHD medications work for longer. Fewer simple carbohydrates. Cut down on how many of these you eat: candy, corn syrup, honey, sugar, products made from white flour, white rice, and potatoes without the skins. More complex carbohydrates. These are the good guys. Load up on vegetables and some fruits, including oranges, tangerines, pears, grapefruit, apples, and kiwi. Eat this type of food in the evening and it may help you sleep. More omega-3 fatty acids. You can find these in tuna, salmon, and other cold-water white fish. Walnuts, Brazil nuts, and olive and canola oil are other foods with these in them. You could also take an omega-3 fatty acid supplement.

My son nine month old pl give information about rota virus vaccines.

MBBS, P.G.C.C. Pediatric
Pediatrician,
My son nine month old pl give information about rota virus vaccines.
Rotavirus disease is highly contagious. The germ is present in the stool of an infected person and can remain viable for a long time on contaminated surfaces, including people's hands. Children catch it by touching something that's contaminated and then putting their hands in their mouth. There are two brands of the rotavirus vaccine -- rotateq (rv5) and rotarix (rv1). Both vaccines are given orally, not as a shot. The only difference is the number of doses that need to be given. With rotateq, three doses are required. They should be given at ages 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months. Rotarix only requires two doses -- at 2 months and 4 months. The vaccine may be given at the same time as other vaccines, and the american academy of pediatrics recommends that the rotavirus vaccine be included as part of the routine immunizations given to infants.

Expired enterolife should not be causing diarrhoea and your kids diarrhoea appears to be unrelated to the same. Most of the diarrhoea respond to who-ors and zinc. However, specific medicines might be needed depending on the cause of diarrhoea. I would advise you to visit your paediatrician.

Why kids vomiting after breastfeeding?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician,
It's normal to have vomiting in small babies soon after feeding as the lower esophageal sphincter is underdeveloped and also as the babies swallow lot of air during feeding.

Hi, it seems that your child is passing developmental milestones almost as well as the other babies. This is a good sign, and means that your child can probably go to regular school and be like other children. Get a developmental assessment done at around 2 years by your pediatrician/ a psychologist specializing in down's syndrome, warm regards.

Usually nothing happens if child is playful and doesn't lose conciousness. But you should be aware of symptoms of internal injury, like vomiting, altered sensorium and convulsions. In that case you must visit paediatrician.

My Baby is going to be 4 months on 2nd may. He's experiencing motion several times a day, like 7 to 8 times. He does green watery motions. He's suffering this since last 1 week, before that it was normal yellowish once a day. Can you please tell us if it's normal for babies or should I consult to a pediatrician.

Stool colour is rarely important, unless it represents blood. Breast fed 4 month old baby can pass 7-8 motions in a day. However, as you have said that stool frequency has increased only recently, I would suggest you to get your baby evaluated by a paediatrician. Any change in food, introduction of new food item or a new medicine could lead to diarrhoea. Try to offer exclusive breast feeds till your baby is 6 months of age.

A six month old baby is ready for starting food other than formula milk. You can start by giving the baby some fresh fruit juice, mashed banana and thin moong dal khichri. You can give Narial pani, vegetable soup (stained). Remember that salt and sugar should be used sparingly. Start one thing at a time, see how the baby likes it. You can use full cream packaged milk, undiluted after boiling and removing the malai, with katori and spoon. Do not use bottles. Bottle feeding causes diarrhoea.

Why Your Baby's Diet Must Not Miss Papaya

Why Your Baby's Diet Must Not Miss Papaya
Health benefits of papaya for babies

When babies graduate from liquids to semi-solids, their diet needs to be tasty as well as healthy. This is the time where immunities are built and how well they eat now will largely decide how fit they will be in the years to come. Selecting their diet is crucial. Papaya is one item which is highly recommended in a baby's diet. Here are the reasons why:

1)Eyesight - Papayas are good for eyesight as they have vitamin A. At a stage when your baby is developing his eyesight, a little help from what he eats will do wonders.
2)Blood Generation - Papayas are known to increase blood count.
3)Digestion - Papayas improve digestion. Since babies are mostly in sedentary position, digestion needs assistance. Mashed papayas are a good idea for this.
4)Skin Problems - Papayas control skin ulcers.
5)Brain - Papayas facilitate brain development which is very important for babies.
6)Bones - Papayas are good for bones. Apart from the oil massages and milk intake, this would also add to the benefit.
7)Muscles - Papayas strengthen the muscles as well.
8)Immunity Building - Papayas are a good source of vitamin C and folate. It strengthens your child’s immune system.
9)Intestinal Worms - Infants at times suffer with the problem of parasitic worms in their intestines. Small amounts of dried papaya seeds with honey can be useful in controlling these intestinal worms.

G6PD deficiency is an inherited condition in which the body doesn't have enough of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, or G6PD, which helps red blood cells (RBCs) function normally. This deficiency can cause hemolytic anemia, usually after exposure to certain medications, foods, or even infections. A normal—or no G6PDD—result for adults is 5.5 to 20.5 units/gram of hemoglobin. Less than 10% of normal means that you have severe deficiency and chronic hemolytic anemia.
