Dear kidney stones can be removed by herbal medicines...try the tips to prevent kidney stones:: 1. Avoid tea, coffee, alcohol, cold drinks, pickles, fish, poultry, meat, spinach, and chocolate. 2. Avoid sour, heavy, and dry food. 3. Increase intake of liquids like water, juice, soup, lime water lemon soda etc. 4. Be sure to drink enough water each day. Usually 1 to 2 liters of water per day is adequate. 5. Drink more if you are perspiring heavily, working outdoors, the weather is hot, etc. 6. Increase the use of barley, horse gram (a type of bean), ginger, and brown rice or parboiled rice. 7. Avoid suppressing urges to urinate and defecate. 9. Boil 10-12 basil leaves in 1 cup of water for 15 minutes. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey in it and take twice a day.

Definitely helps. In case of renal stones best thing is to drink 3-4 liters of water per day. Decrease salt and non veg. Repeat scan after 3 months. Depending on size next time treatment is based.

My father is diabetic since last 30 years & high blood pressure issue since last 20 years. Now from last 3-4 months he is suffering from kidney infection s.creatinine not going below 2.60. Please advise what kind of treatment we should follow to control s.creatinine.

M.D. Internal Medicine
Endocrinologist, Mumbai
Usually when kidney gets affected one needs to find out the cause- whether it is due to diabetes ,or infection, kidney stone or drugs or any other cause. Detailed renal function with ultra sonography of abdomen and pelvis is recommended. Ophthalmic evaluation to rule out diabetic retinopathy will be helpful in diagnosing whether renal involvement is because of uncontrolled diabetes or not. If kidney infection is the cause of increasing S. Creatinine then kidney friendly antibiotics have to be given as per culture reports. It is always safer and better to control blood sugars with insulin therapy as many anti diabetic drugs can not be continued when S. Creatinine is above 1.5 mg.

A) Is it true that tomatoes can cause or increase a pre-existing Kidney stone? B) If a) is true then, is the tomato pulp, or tomato skin or tomato seeds cause Kidney stone? C) Should tomato be avoided if a person has a small Kidney stone?

Hi dear -tomatoes are not concerned with stones too much. - any how ;; stones occur bcz of high acidity and acidic wastes in blood, tomato is also acidic in nature, so better you avoid it in diet or decrese its use. - best way is you take stone dissolving pathrihar course--20-30 days and be happy/ tension free. -its package is availble.

You may have developed a fissure (a small cut in the anal skin). Take sitz bath at least twice a day. Avoid constipation. Take plenty of fluids, fibre and fruits. Avoid spices and fried food. If it doesn't help please consult a surgeon. Thanks.

.SIR, I AM 38. MY QUESTION IS RELATED WITH PROSTRATE. I HAVE A MILD ENLARGE PROSTRATE WITH RESUDIARY URINE 120. DURING URINE NO PAIN. I HARDLY WAKE AT NIGHT. M.Y URINE TEST AND URINE CULTURE ARE NORMAL. ON 8TH OCTOBER 2015 MY PSA IS 0.61.BUT AFTER EJACULATION OR INTERCOURSE I FEEL BURNING SENSATION. IS IT ANY DANGER/ I am very tensed. Please advice. Sometime my legs chew. Is it related with urinary track infection or prostrate?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear Lybrateuser, - If you can sleep well at night & daytime symptoms are not worrisome then you don't have to worry much - have more fluids & water in the daytime & restrict intake at night time - maintain hygiene of genital area also wash before & after intercourse, your partner should also do the same - your leg problem is not related to prostrate or urinary infection - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & vegetables, whole grains protein foods, avoid fried & fat containing foods - have 7-8 glasses of water for proper hydration & to avoid urinary tract infection as person with prostrate having large residual volume can develop UTI - also do regular exercise like walking, jogging, for 15-20 min in the morning - get ultrasonography of lower abdomen & pelvis done at least once a year to monitor the prostrate size - take medication if symptoms hamper your activities & sleep.

After laser operation (stone in my urine) Should I take fish, chicken and egg? What kind of food I avoid?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
General precautions for stones: 1. Drink lot of fluids (keep urine clolorless & urine volume per 24 hr > 1.5 to 2 liters) 2. Reduce salt intake 3. Reduce intake of animal proteins These three things are universal for any kidney stone. If you are taking calcium supplements for bone health, try taking calcium citrate preparation since citrate prevent stone formation. Take calcium supplements along with meals and not in empty stomach. Milk and milk containing products must also be taken along with meals to prevent excessive calcium absorption which can promote stones. However, regular milk/calcium supplement is required. Other things you should follow are: - Increase fruit intake (except grapes) - Decrease coffee, tea, soft drinks, nuts and chocolate
