Hello, Is there any history of injury or hurt to the area? Any underlying medical condition? Medication: Meantime, take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. And wrap crepe bandage over it. Get back to me thereafter.

Hello, first of all you should know what is backache and by which factors it caused and aggravated. The usual cause of low back pain is the sedentary lifestyle that we lead these days. There is hardly any movement. walking, running and cycling like activities are also not a part of our daily routine. To add to it, our diet consists more and more of junk food. Fresh fruits, vegetables and high fibre foods are consumed less and less. These daily practices lead to obesity. The increased body weight puts lot of pressure on the spine which has to bear all the extra unwanted weight. The back muscles which are already weak due to lack of exercise and wrong posture are unable to cope with this increased load. This causes pain in the back muscles. Management for Back Pain:-Along with medicines for relieving pain, one needs to identify the cause and correct it. This may require some medicines or some correction in your posture or reducing weight or improving your lifestyle. At the same time, there is a need to work on the local muscle strengthening. Back muscles need to be strengthened so that they can bear the weight of the upper body. For this exercises of the back muscles are very helpful. Regular walking is also very helpful as it is a wholesome exercise of the body, improves blood circulation and helps lose weight. Most importantly if you are overweight then losing weight is an important part of the whole treatment plan .Long term use of painkillers for low back pain is harmful Treatment for back pain:- Homeopathic medicines are very helpful. They not only treat the acute stages but are also used for the treatment of chronic back pain.Selection of the exact remedy depends upon the individual symptoms of the person.So share the complete symptom picture for the proper treatment. Dear lybrate-user, Do as follows: 1. Hadjod capsule (Himalaya company)- 1 capsule twice daily 30 minutes after food with lukewarm milk. 2. Ksheer bala 101 oil softgel capsule (Kottakal ayurveda company) - 1 capsule twice daily with lukewarm water 30 minutes before food. 3. Ostranil oil (Salveo Company) - massage twice daily on painful joint followed with hot water fomentation with towel. Avoid long time standing and folding of knees. Thanks

Hi.My problem " my tale bone is dislocated as iwas fallen on the floor 3yrs before. I had shown an orthopedic . And i had done xray and some blood test(related to vitamin d) he advised me . To use cushion whenever sit on floor. And give some vitamins tab. And fish oil tab. But thr is nothing difference on my pain. Still having severe pain on sitting position .I m married and having 2kids. Plz help me out for my problem. Thank you

Hello Dr. I had asked you twice for precautions of my symptoms. But eventually I got an answer for x-rays or doctors consult. I had wrote for my back pain ,what it was about and what I should done for it. On first reply I got to know my situation was about lumber disc prolapse ,then again I asked after a week than Dr. Suggested me for x-ray of my lower part .But when I went to Dr. In real for checkup he gave me few medicines of reducing pain of my lower back and told me if pain doesn't go than go for MRI for more specific queries of pain. His medicine worked for few days I was less in pain but after few days once again I felt waist jammed or sticked and my legs and arms are soon going to numb. What is the problem now? Why it happening in every 4-5 days after I feel good it starts happening./.should I go for MRI? Is there anything serious im my symptoms? What should I say to Dr. In my next check up? I am just confused I do not understand what I am going thru sometimes im fine sometimes I am agn in pain./

I am 39 years female with slip disc at l4-l5. Also having radiating pain downwards right leg.

This could be due to lumbar spondylosis with nerve root compression. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take paracetamol 250mg od & sos you will need other supportive medicines also. Do back (spine) exercises make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take you may have to use lumbosacral support for some time. Avoid painful act/activities. Take medicines as prescribed it may have to be further investigated. Do reply back for private consultation and detailed treatment plan.

I am 24 years old ,had sustained a fall on an outstretched hand day before yesterday, x-ray features are suggestive of volar barton fracture of right distal end of radius ,doctors are suggesting for ORIF WITH BUTTRESS PLATE, for how long I have to immobilize the hand after surgery sir.

Quadriceps strengthening exercises- Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, Hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight Leg Raise: Lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

if u r already taking physiotherapy than your Physio will suggest you after seeing your physical condition and flexibility of knee. you do can climb stairs. but not for many times a day. apply knee cap than climb up.

I have slipped discs at l4-l5 n l5-s1 and tend to get a bit of acute pain at times when they get aggravated which gets better with rest and exercise. I had also been diagnosed with spondilolysthisis about 8 yrs back. For last few months I have developed a pain in my left knee. Earlier pain used to be mainly radicular pain. Could knee pain be related to slipped disc or would it be something different. I also have vit d deficiency. Any suggestions for dealing with knee pain?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. Your query mainly focuses on knee pain, if it is localised knee pain, then it should not be related to spine, and this may be a different issue. But if there is no swelling and signs of inflammation and h/o any injury present I would advise you to start with intensive physical therapy for knee mainly focusing on building up your quadriceps and hamstring muscles, hot fomentation 3-4 times in a day, take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body' s suitability and as you stated please supplement your calcium and vitamin d adequately. I have sever neck pain and my Ortho surgeon informs me that at my age of 77, except physio therapy nothing can be done. He informs me that I can try steroid. Is it advisable to take steroid at this age in my neck? Regards. KK Moorthy.

Hello , no do not take Steriods and opt Homoeopathic treatment along with Physiotherapy. Take Lachnanthes 200 ch , 5 drops , single dose. Gelsemium 30 ch , 3 drops twice daily. Revert me after 7 days.

Surely you need proper nutrition and back strengthening exercises with local hot water bag application, dashmularishtham with kshirbala 101 cap twice a day. Sos matra basti and vajikaran therapy will best for you.

DEAR U FOLLOW THIS EXERCISE. LUMBAR EXTENSION STRETCHES Generally these are good for individuals who may have a disc herniation. They should be performed with caution for anyone who has spinal stenosis or any known fractures in their vertebrae. Prone Press Up: Begin by lying on your stomach with your elbows bent underneath you and palms flat on the surface. Keeping your hips and pelvis in contact with the surface, lift your upper torso off the mat with your arms, keeping your back muscles relaxed. Only go as high as you are comfortable. Perform 10 repetitions holding each one for 10 seconds each, working your way to 30 seconds Generally, the flexion based stretches are good for those with spinal stenosis or tightness through the lower lumbar musculature. Single Knee to Chest: Begin by lying on your back with both knees bent. Bring one knee up towards your chest. Perform 2-3 repetitions, holding each one for 15-30 seconds. You may feel a stretch along the lower back or buttocks area. You may also perform this with both legs up towards your chest if it is comfortable Prayer Stretch or Child’s Pose: This stretch is for the lower back muscles along the spine and is a very common yoga pose. On your hands and knees, sit back so your buttocks is resting on your heels. Reach your hands forward to lengthen your spine and feel a stretch in your middle back. You can reach your hands to either side to focus the stretch on the opposite side of your spine. Hold for 10-30 seconds and perform 2-3 repetitions. Angry Cat Stretch: This stretch can incorporate both an extension and a flexion component. You may perform either way or just one way if that is more comfortable for you. On your hands and knees, let your belly sag towards the table to increase extension through your spine (lumbar extension picture). To increase flexion through your spine, arch your back upwards, bringing your spine away from the table (lumbar flexion picture). You may hold each position for 5-20 seconds and repeat several times NERVE STRETCHES Just as you can stretch a muscle, you can stretch a nerve. Nerve stretches are very important to perform if you have any radiating pain from your lower back into your buttocks or legs. Nerve stretches are also very important to perform after lumbar surgery to ensure that there is no scar tissue adhering the nerve to any internal structures. Sciatic Nerve Stretch: This stretch should be performed if the majority of the radiating pain into the legs is felt in the buttocks, back of the leg, and/or through the calf and foot. This follows the pathway of the sciatic nerve. By stretching the nerve, it can help to desensitize it so that it will not cause as much pain. Perform this stretch by lying on your back with your hand behind one knee, preferable the leg with the sciatic pain. Straighten your knee then alternate flexing your ankle back and forth. Only hold your ankle in each position for a few seconds. Perform 10 repetitions on each side. As with beginning any new exercise, start off slowly with a very gentle stretch. Stop if you have any increase in lower back pain or sciatic pain down your leg. If unsure whether you should perform these stretches, consult your doctor or physical therapist.
