Running vs Walking

While walking can provide many of the same health benefits associated with running, a growing body of research suggests running may be best for weight loss. Perhaps unsurprisingly, people expend 2.5 times more energy running than walking, whether that's on the track or treadmill. Translation: For a 160-pound person, running 8 mph would burn over 800 calories per hour, compared to about 300 calories walking at 3.5 mph.

And when equal amounts of energy were expended (meaning walkers spent more time exercising), one study found runners still lost more weight. In this study, not only did the runners begin with lower weights than the walkers; they also had a better chance of maintaining their BMI and waist circumference.

Plus, running may regulate appetite hormones better than walking. In another study, after running or walking, participants were invited to a buffet, where walkers consumed about 50 calories more than they had burned and runners ate almost 200 calories fewer than they'd burned.Researchers think this may have to do with runners' increased levels of the hormone peptide YY, which may suppress appetite.

But aside from weight loss, walking has definite pros.Researchers looked at data from the National Runners Health Study and the National Walkers.Health Study and found that people who expended the same amount of calories saw many of the same health benefits. Regardless of whether they were walking or running, individuals saw a reduced risk of hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, and improved better cardiovascular health.

And running does have downsides: It puts more stress on the body and increases the risk for injuries, like runner's knee, hamstring strains,shin splits (which plague even the most consistent runners).

I am a boy, 26 years old, 5'7" my weight is 73 kg. I am slightly over weight. I go to gym daily .and after gym I go for swimming. I want to make a good physic slightly bigger in size then the normal lean body shape which athlete have. My diet plan is like this:- morning wakes up @8 am drinks 1 glass water, toilet,then bath, then breakfast. Breakfast include Half bowl milk with some kellogs muesli and two chapati with some veggi. 11-12 pm -500-600 ml water intake 1-2 pm - lunch (Two chapati and a veggi) 4 pm - coffee 6 pm - glass of water 6: 30-8 - Gym 8-9 pm- 2 boiled eggs 9-9: 45 - swimming 10-11 pm dinner (two chapati and a veggi) I want to know whether my diet is okay or not? Secondly what all should I do to lose fats and develop a good physic as stated above. Can Taking Muscle tech Nitro tech performance series protein will help me or it is not good to use it?

Your weight is controlled by 4 major factors (1) refined sugar consumption (2) exercise and hydration (3) posture and sitting (4) how many times do you indulge yourself - alcohol, binge eating at parties, overeating etc. Step 01: refined sugar 1. Avoid all snacks and commercial products with sugar in them - biscuits, cakes, bournvita, horlicks, coke, pepsi, energy drinks, sweetened yogurt etc. 2. Cut down on your daily intake of tea/coffee and maintain it at 3-4 cups a day. 3. Try to add little sugar to any beverage (coffee, tea, milk, lemon water etc.) that you have and ideally you should refrain from adding any sugar altogether. Step 02: get exercise and proper hydration 1. Try to work out for 20 minutes each day. You do not necessarily have to go to the gym. You can incorporate some pretty powerful exercises in your daily routine like - squats, skipping, surya namaskar and core exercises. 2. Drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday but remember that tea/coffee are not substitutes for pure water. Step 03: improve posture and sitting habits if you have a sitting job then ensure that you do not sit for more than 30 minutes at one stretch. Get up and move a little after every 30 minutes. Step 04: stop indulging and eat more of raw natural stuff 1. No more than 60 ml of hard liqour or 2 glasses of beer per day. 2. Try to eliminate the urge to overeat but if you do overeat try to limit the incidents to two times per week. 3. Eat 4 servings of fruits per day. 4. Each of your meal should contain 50% of raw vegetables. Once you incorporate the above points in your routine you will see a dramatic difference in your weight, physical shape and energy levels. You will find that there are a lot of companies out there that are trying to sell expensive products to naive consumers in the name of weight loss. These products may not necessarily be good for you. Losing and maintaining weight is something which is totally in your hands, it is easy and it is free of cost if you follow the above mentioned points.

Start eating triphla chooran in morning empty stomach with water, secondly try out alternative fasting diet, means, eat fruits only every alternative days, and the other alternative days normal routine diet (do for 60 days). Start doing surya namaskar in morning to have amazing results.

You follow 7 days diet plan in which you can loss 3-5 kg in week. 1st day - in morning 1 glass of lukeworm water with 1 spoon alsi powder or 1/2 spoon methidana powder then walk for 45 minutes. Cup boiled rice n 6 red tomato only 6 day take 1 cup boiled rice n vegetables (boiled / raw) 7 days all foods can you take. N drink lots of water.

Sadique, Losing weight with thyroid disorder and taking contraceptive pills is real challenge. The dietary advise, which does not take into account these factors will surely not work for you. Eating a low calorie food or low fat food will surely be not very effective for you. What you need to do is consult someone who can help you holitically - proper nutrition, right kind of exercise (just few min a day), stress management and sleep improvement. Making changes in all 4 aspect, will help bring the underlying hormonal disturbances under proper control and you will be able to find more energy, and more excitement into your life... weight loss will be just the byproduct! best wishes.

The breasts are predominately a fatty tissue located directly over top of the pectoral muscles. One of the best ways to lift your breasts is to strengthen the muscles underneath your breasts as they help to support them. When these muscles are weak, they allow the breast tissue to sag. But if you develop these muscles, your breasts will get a nice lift. Sit up straight on a chair and make sure that your back is straight and your stomach is tensed. Hold a medicine ball at chest level and squeeze the ball to contract the chest. While squeezing the ball, slowly straighten the arms, taking the ball straight out in front of you until the arms are straight. Keep a steady pressure on the ball throughout the movement. Bring the ball back towards the chest and repeat for 1-3 sets of 10 reps. Abdomen toning exercises fro abdomen.

Hi obesity can't be reduced overnight, it requires perseverance and an achievable target needs to be set. Losing 1/2- 1 kg per week is scientifically correct weight loss. Dear to decrease ur weight you have to do work out daily...Try the remedies below they can help u. 1. Mix three teaspoons of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper powder in one glass of water. 2. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. 3. Do this daily for at least three months. 4. Drink mint tea or make a paste of green mint with some simple spices and eat during meals. 5. Eat vegetables such as bitter gourd and drumsticks to control obesity. 6. Do Bhujang asana , Dhanurasana ,Naukasana, Kumbhakasana , Pavanamukthasana daily 10 min per asana. 7. Best way to reduce fat is exercise and diet control....take pranacharya medohar rasayn twice a day....medohar guggul 2-2 twice a day....and pranacharya slim capsule 1-1 twice a day...avoid junk food...oily food...fermented food..alcohol consumption..sugar....milk products and sweets....take oats and cereals more..and do pranayama early in the morning and walk for atleast 45 minutes a day...and do exercises....dont sleep immediately after taking meal...you can take my 'obesity treatment package' which is available on lybrate in health packages

You need to have a diet and exercise plan based on your bmi, age & weight and sex, presence of any diseases. Comprehensive exercise& diet plan based on whether vegetarian /non vegetarian can be given if you ask privately. May also need to do some tests. In brief, weight reduction can be achieved only by reducing the intake of food 1/3 of what you take now. And by appropriate exercise plans for each part like belly, thighs, legs etc. To burn off fat. Some tips 1) drink three or four cups of water whenever you feel hungry and just before eating food 2) take boiled or raw vegetable like cucumber, carrot etc. As half of your diet. Then take 1/4 of your total diet as sprouted pulses / proteinaceous food like roti, cooked pulses and remaining with rice or other carbohydrates. Oil or ghee etc. Should be just bare minimum. The most important is to burn off the energy intake by exercises. There is no short cut or medicines without exercise. The food we eat is utilised for our energy needs and the remaining will be stored as fat which leads to obesity.

Hello, It's good to reduce weight at right time as many problems are directly related to overweight! Remember, there's no magic bullet for weight loss. The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume. Choose a variety of healthy foods — such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein — and include physical activity in your daily routine. Go through the following general guidelines and implement them in your routine: Management: 1: Drink plenty of water (at least 2-3 l/d) or other calorie-free beverages. 2: Be choosy about nighttime snacks. 3: Enjoy your favorite foods. 4: Have 6 meals per day - 3 main courses and 3 snack meals (snack meals should be healthy). 5: Do regular exercises daily (start with light and later may be little vigorous) . Exercise decreases the stress hormone in your body, burns calories and also increases the blood circulation. Preferably brisk walking, swimming, cycling, skipping. 6: Eat seasonal fruits. Fruit helps to satisfy your sweet tooth thanks to its natural sugars, while fresh vegetables help you fill up more quickly. Fruits and vegetables contain fiber to help you feel full quickly. 7: Eat more whole grains and cut simple carbs. Whole wheat bread, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, and brown rice are all excellent sources of energy and sources of nutrition. 8: Choose lean proteins instead of fatty ones. 9: Cut the salt from your diet. Eating more sodium causes your body to retain water, which can cause you to feel bloated and gain more weight. 10: Don't skip meals.When you skip meals, your body stops breaking down fat and starts breaking down muscle tissue. Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than other tissues, so you're actually working against your goals 11: Eat at home. Going out to eat makes it too easy to cheat. Food sold at restaurants is commonly much higher in fat, sodium, and other weight-loss killers. 12: Give yourself a treat now and then. If you're attending a party or going out for a special occasion, allow yourself an indulgence. Just make sure that these indulgences don't become daily habits. 13: Go for a health walk. Gear up yourself daily for a health walk which not only shed off your extra calorie, but also reduces the stress levels. 14: Take small frequent breaks for a quick walk in between as sitting for long hours together encourages the accumulation of fat in the body! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe's Phytolacca Berry tablets/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before the meals for 3 months. Thereafter revert me back for further guidance. (Slow and steady weight loss is good. Hi Mr. Lybrate-user, first of all I would like to tell you that if you are skipping your meal, it is more dangerous for you so its not the matter of amount you are taking its the matter of quality what you are taking. Take sufficient amount of fiber in your diet with the help of lots of fruits & vegetables. Take 2 major meals (breakfast & lunch) & 2-3 small meal/ snacks. At least 4-5 meal of fruits & vegetables you should take in a day. Do regular walk/ exercise/ skipping/ jogging/ running/ skipping/ yoga etc whatever you like.
