Good day. lybrate-user. The important complication of dengue is hemorrhage or bleeding both internal and external. Chest pain may be due to Gastritis caused by paracetamol you might have taken during the hospital admission or I fear it can be due to internal blood loss. Check for any rash or red patches on skin and any newly developed joint swelling and pain I suggest you to consult your physician immediately without delay. Please contact if still need further assistance.

I am 73 & taking Nitrosun 10 mg & restyl 0.5 mg one every night for sleep. Any alternative?
Avoid using medications.. 1. avoid caffeine found in coffee, tea , chocolate, cola, and some pain relievers.[four to six hours before bedtime.] 2. quiet, dark, and cool environment can help promote sound sleep. . [Use heavy curtains, or an eye mask to block light, and also keeping computers, TVs, and other work materials out of the room will help promote mental bonding between your bedroom and sleep] 3. Avoid stressful, stimulating activities like doing work, discussing emotional issues. Physically and psychologically stressful activities can cause the body to secrete the stress hormone cortisol, which is associated with increasing alertness.

Nephrotic Syndrome - 9 Surprising Causes Behind it

Advanced Short Course Training in Kidney Transplantation, DM - Nephrology, MD - Nephrology , MBBS
Nephrologist, Delhi
Nephrotic Syndrome - 9 Surprising Causes Behind it

Nephrotic syndrome is a type of kidney disorder wherein, the body passes out excess amount of proteins through urine, owing to the damage caused to the tiny clusters of blood vessels in the kidneys. The symptoms include putting on excessive weight as a result of fluid retention, foamy urine and severe swelling around the region of the feet, ankles and eyes.

Common causes behind it

  1. Minimal change disease (also known as nil disease) leads to the abnormal functioning of the kidneys
  2. Excess deposit of amyloid proteins in the organs, thus taking a toll on the filter mechanism of the kidneys.
  3. Diabetes affecting the glomeruli (capillaries present in the nephrons of the kidneys).
  4. Systemic lupus  erythematous causing chronic swelling of your kidney.
  5. Membranous nephropathy wherein the membranes in your glomeruli thicken.
  6. Infections such as malaria, hepatitis C, hepatitis B and HIV.
  7. Medications to combat infections and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Treatment Available

  1. Kidney Biopsy is an essential part of disease assessment.
  2. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors bring down blood pressure levels as well as the amount of protein discharged from the urine.
  3. Water pills help control sweating, thus, increasing the fluid flushed from the kidneys.
  4. Statins reduce cholesterol levels.
  5. Blood thinners such as anticoagulants lower the risk of blood clots.
  6. Corticosteroids regulate the immune system and ease the inflammation that results from kidney disorders.
  7. Incorporating certain lifestyle changes such as opting for lean proteins, cutting on the intake of fat in the diet and consuming lesser amounts of salt can treat inflammation and swelling. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I am doing masturbation daily. I don't want to do. But what I do. I can't leave tht habit.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
I am doing masturbation daily.
I don't want to do.
But what I do. I can't leave tht habit.
Masturbation is regarded as a normal, healthy sexual activity. In general, the medical community considers masturbation to be a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women. It does not cause any physical injury or harm to the body, and can be performed in moderation throughout a person's lifetime as a part of normal sexual behavior. It will not affect you or your ability to have children in the future. If you wish to reduce the frequency of masturbation: It originates from brain, due to thinking about sex. Hence: ·     Do not watch adult material. ·     Concentrate more on your studies or work. ·     Exercise regularly.

8 Steps to Heart by Healthy Eating

MBBS, MD-General Medicine, DM - Cardiology
Cardiologist, Secunderabad
8 Steps to Heart by Healthy Eating

Choose wisely
Be mindful about choosing heart healthy foods; for example:
- plant-based diets low in fat, salt and added sugars
- high fiber and whole grains
- lean protein
- foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (flaxseed, salmon and other fish, certain oils and nuts)

2. Read food labels
The labels on the side of food and beverage packaging provide a lot of useful information about the nutritional content, including calories, sodium, cholesterol, fat, sugars and key vitamins per serving.

3. Mind your portions
Many of us overeat without really knowing it. Portions at restaurants even the size of bagels, baked goods and other prepared items have steadily gotten bigger over the years. Know how much is too much, and which foods are better to load up on. Some people find it helpful to visually divide their plate and pre-portioning healthy foods for the week.

4. Learn how to cook healthy
How you prep your food is important; try to avoid frying food and substitute unhealthy fats when possible. It's also best to make snacks and meals from scratch and limit processed foods, which often contain hidden sodium and added sugars.

When you do eat out try to reduce your calories, fat and salt by asking for:
- no added butter or salt
- half of the portion to be boxed up before they plate it for you
- the dressing on the side

5. Limit alcohol
Experts advise limiting it to one drink a day for women and two for men.

12 fl oz of
Regular beer
8-9 fl oz of
Malt liquor (shown in a 12-oz glass)
5 fl oz of
Table wine

3-4 fl oz of
Fortified wine
(such as sherry or port; 3.5 oz shown)
2-3 fl oz of
Cordial, liqueur, or aperitif (2.5 oz shown)
1.5 fl oz of brandy or cognac
(a single jigger or shot)

1.5 fl oz shot of 80-proof distilled spirits

6. Don't shop hungry
If you go to the grocery store hungry, you are more likely to make unhealthy impulse buys.

7. Keep a food diary
This is one of the best ways to look critically at your patterns of eating over time. Based on this information, you can make healthy changes. There are also nutritional and food tracking apps that can help.

8. Ask for help
Don't go it alone or attempt to cut out major foods groups or make too many changes at once; your efforts can backfire. Talk with your health care provider or nutritionist about how many calories you should be consuming each day and come up with an eating plan that is realistic and fits your life. Ask your partner or family to help you stick to a healthy diet.

A healthy diet can help you maintain a healthy body weight and control your blood cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar.

For diabetes follow a diet low in carbohydrate, low in fat and high in fibre. Walking for 30 mins a day for at least 5 days in a week is recommended. Follow a stress free life. Medicine will depend on blood sugar report.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if a stent has been put in the coronary artery, then it is necessary to follow all the precautions given by her doctor regarding the diet. Excess fat and sugar intake is to be avoided to prevent cholesterol and ldl increase. Particularly deep fried foods, junk foods, red meat, too much of masala containing non-veg preparations should be avoided. She should consume a good deal of salads and green leafy vegetables and fruits, as well as fiber containing foods.
