I am male, 52, taking Telista MT 25 but 9 hours after taking medicine, b.p. Begins to rise and reaches 140/100at about 12 hours. About two and a half hours later, after my usual 1 and a half peg of liquor, I find it around 126/87 or so. Morning b.p.is usually 130/90. BTW best reading is seen 3 to 4 hours after taking the medicine in the morning (124/86, 125/88) Do I need to increase the dose? And can I take telmisartan 40 in the evening additionally?

Hi Normal range of blood pressure is between 90/60 to 140/90, anything above or below is is abnormal. Many factors can affect blood pressure, including: 1) The amount of water and salt you have in your body 2) The condition of your kidneys, nervous system, or blood vessels 3) Your hormone levels You are more likely to be told your blood pressure is too high as you get older. This is because your blood vessels become stiffer as you age. When that happens, your blood pressure goes up. High blood pressure increases your chance of having a stroke, heart attack, heart failure, kidney disease, or early death. I read your query, by the information I have in hand my advice to you would be 1) Keep a BP daily record for at least one week 2) Basic tests should be one to rule out cardiac / kidney issues 3) unless any recent evaluation has been done I would advice these test ECG ECHO Lipid Profile TSH KFT  Renal doppler  And no you don't need additional doses of medication Get back to me with a detailed history and  old / new records for a better individualized advice.

Hi lybrate-user, if you are taking anti hypertensive medicines and still have high bp, you should not do very rigorous exercises. First get your bp under control with medications and then you may take up exercise as a measure to maintain it at normal levels along with medications.

Cholesterol level should be measured at least once every five years in everyone over age 20. The screening test that is usually performed is a blood test called a lipid profile. Experts recommend that men ages 35 and older and women ages 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. The lipoprotein profile includes: Total cholesetrol LDL (low-density lipoprotein CHOLESETROL also called "bad"CHOLESTETROL HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) TRIGLYCERIDES (fats carried in the BLOOD from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into TRIGLYCERIDES and stored in fat cells throughout the body. High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. You need to go back to the GP who prescribed this medication to you to get it revised. Make healthy modification in your lifestyle like getting 45 mins of exercise which includes walking, simple cycling, climbing stairs, pranayama and meditation. You can make variations in daily routine so you do one each day to make it interesting. Make sure you get adequate salt, preferably rock salt in your diet. It is correct that you have to reduce salt, but some salt is essential for proper blood vessel health and other metabolism. These foods will help regain circulation health. Pomegranate juice 3 times a week. Coconut water daily. Honey as a topping on green salads. Proper Vitamin ACE either in food (preferable) or as supplement tablets that are of minor dosage. Try these for a month and do tell the changes in your health. For more information, take a consultation with us at Health Solutions.
